Security Enhanced Rhythm Authentication using Relative Finger-Tip Positions
The rhythm authentication algorithm uses the concept of a traditional keystroke authentication and a multitouch technology based on a touchable device. Three measurements are used in the rhythm authentication method which consists of holding times, latency times, and the number of fingers per beat. These measurements are compared with the user templates. The user is authenticated if a percentage of error is in a predetermined range. However, using only three measurements is not enough. If the attacker is familiar with the victim, the rhythm authentication can be attacked by shoulder surfing or eavesdropping. Additionally, only a percentage of similarity between the user template in database and user’s input for classifying is not a reliable algorithm. In this research, we propose a security-enhanced rhythm authentication using relative finger-tip positions and the KNN algorithm for classification to prevent shoulder-surfing attacks
Collated Studies on Rectifying Circuit on Impact-Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting
Nowadays, energy consumption for ultra-low power energy such as piezoelectric energy harvester has suffered a very huge power loss when rectifying the generated AC signal into regulated DC voltage. This paper presents a method on enhancing the efficiency of the proposed rectifier circuit on Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) piezoelectric disk. The experiment was conducted by actuating the transducer by applying one single impact pulse only from a weight-drop test setup. The aim of this study is to increase the efficiency of the extracted output power from piezoelectric by reducing the power losses during the rectification process. Enhancements were made by identifying factors affecting the generated output power from the transducer. Four different types of rectifier topologies were studied and optimized by varying the level of forward voltage drop, Vf across the diode. The enhancement of the generated output voltage from the harvester was also conducted by altering and specifically designed the mechanical configuration of the disk’s supporting base in order to increase the displacement of the piezoelectric strain. The system performances have been analyzed and the resulted data have been plotted into voltage and power curves against the resistive impedance. It was found that the power efficiency of full-wave bridge rectifier constructed with the lowest Vf, is the highest compared to the half-wave and the specialized voltage doubler rectifier
Dual-Stacked Transparent Patch Antenna Using AgHT-8 for Wireless Application
A dual-stacked transparent patch antenna using silver coated polyester (AgHT-8) thin film as radiating element and perspex acrylic dielectric substrate as mechanical support is proposed. Employing an air gap between the stacking structure is proven to exhibit better performance in terms of bandwidth and gain compared to a single structure patch antenna. The dual-stacked antenna was also experimentally verified, achieving reasonable agreement between the simulation and measurement results. The proposed antenna has the potential to be adopted in any transparent devices where invisibility of physical appearance is inherent
Simulation of compressible flow using a semi-implicit TVD scheme
Total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme is a kind of robust high-resolution approach, which removes the undesirable oscillations generated by numerical solution. The present work proposes a new implementation of the TVD scheme into a density-based semi-implicit finite-volume procedure to solve the inviscid and viscous flow equations. The proposed algorithm uses a simple linearization technique for convective fluxes. In order to enhance the accuracy of the algorithm, a high-resolution TVD scheme is employed in the discretization of the governing equations. This procedure has a simple implementation compared to other explicit and implicit schemes. The present scheme is first examined for some inviscid and viscous steady-state flows at several Mach numbers from subsonic to the supersonic regime. In addition, the inviscid and viscous unsteady flows are simulated and compared with experimental and numerical results, so that an acceptable correspondence was obtained. Results from this study indicate that the proposed algorithm is accurate for a wide range of Mach numbers
UPAYA MENDESKRIPSI KATA BAHARU BUKAN ISTILAH: SUATU CADANGAN PERANCANGAN (THE COMPETENCY TO DESCRIBE NEW WORDS (NOT TERMINOLOGIES): A PROPOSAL)
Kata Kunci: media sosial, kata baharu, korpus, WebCorp, TextSTATABSTRACT The regular and predominant utilisation of newly-formed words (not terminologies) in social media puts forth a displeasing voice to the standard linguistic setting of a language. This is chiefly due to the fact that the use of these words in the media disregard the prevailing rules and linguistic systems, be they the pronunciation, spelling, terminology, vocabulary, grammar and register. One the one hand, this phenomenon is deemed a thorny linguistic issue, but on the other hand, this should rather be aptly managed. This goes along with the very dynamic nature of a language, which inevitably keeps on developing from time to time. In accordance with the aforesaid premise, the paper aims to obtain the descriptions of the new words which are regularly used in social media. The word ‘kekwat’ was selected as the sample, and the describing strategy was grouped into two main processes, namely data elicitation process and data analysis process. The data elicitation process was initiated by identifying the use of the newly-formed words in the social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Instagram. Subsequently, the identified words were classified into three categories under the umbrella of content lexical (nouns, verbs and adjectives). Following the grouping process, the words were then verified as undocumented in any Malay dictionary by cross-referencing them using four (4) main dictionaries. Next, the data were scrutinised using the WebCorp database. The data analysis process was completed based on three (3) main focuses, i.e. the analysis focusing on the usage pattern, meanings, and identification of additional information resting on the Semantic Prosody theory, which was computed using the TextSTAT 2.9 application. The proposed strategy of description in this paper is thus hoped to bring about a more systematic and scientific approach to manage the dynamism of the newly-formed words. It is also hoped that the findings, based on the analytical procedures may shed some light on how the words are contextually utilised. THE EFFECT OF ENTREPRENEURIAL ORIENTATION OF SMALL FIRMS INNOVATION
The innovation has become a crucial factor in developing business in both large and small organizations. The entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is recognized to be an effective development approach for innovation performance. However, the majority of past and current literature focus on the association between EO and innovation performance in the large organizations compared to small and medium firms, especially in the developing countries. Thus, this study aims to examine the association between EO and innovation performance in small business innovation performance in Malaysia. Due to the fact that the small business is a wide sector, food small firms were selected because they contribute significantly to Malaysian economy development and job creation. A survey was conducted with 177 firms, while regression was employed to analysis the relationship. The finding of this study ensures that there is positive relationship between EO and innovation performance in food small firms in Malaysia

Automatic Road Crack Segmentation Using Thresholding Methods
Maintenance of good condition of roads are very essential to the economy and everyday life of people in a every country. Road cracks are one of the important indicators that show degradations of road surfaces. Inspection of roads that have been done manually took a very long time and tedious. Hence, an automatic road crack segmentation using thresholding methods have been proposed in this study. In this study, ten road crack images have been pre-processed as an initial step. Then, normalization techniques, L1-Sqrt norm have been applied onto images to reduce the variation of intensities that skewed to the right. Then, thresholding methods, Otsu and Sauvola methods have been used to binarize the images. From the experiment of ten road crack images that have been done, normalization technique, L1-Sqrt norm can help to increase performance of road crack segmentation for Otsu and Sauvola methods. The results also show that Sauvola method outperform Otsu method in detecting road cracks
