    No full text
In conventional current sensors the accuracy, sensitivity, reliability, and safety are greatly affected by electromagnetic interference phenomena. The advancement of fiber optic technology in recent years opened up a better solution to this problem. The motivation of this project is to implement and enhance fiber optic as a current sensor. A fiber optic interferometer is applied to receive inputs from a modulator, which resemble the presence of an electromagnetic field around a conductor carrying an electrical current. This research is to design and demonstrate a fiber optic current sensor using Sagnac interferometric scheme. The design is simulated using Optisystem software. The performance of the fiber optic current sensor was observed and analyzed. Analysis has focused on the output waveform, transmission losses, power consumption, and sensitivity of the device based on the Pulse mode and CW mode. CW mode laser had a more stable and steady waveform however the power consumption and transmission losses are higher compared to pulse mode. For pulse mode, at a higher frequency, the sensitivity of the proposed fiber optic current sensor design is decreased

    No full text
Electrical energy waste may be defined as electricity consumption that does not perform any useful or productive action to the consumer. Energy waste and losses can cause higher electricity and therefore increase the cost of electric utilities. This paper presents a case study to estimate how much wastage of energy due to unnecessary lighting is occurring in the buildings under the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) in Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). The study consists of an energy survey for all the current usage of all lighting fixtures in FKE. Then, by identifying the potential waste of energy,  an operation scheduling of lighting fixtures is proposed, followed by data analysis to determine the potential energy savings and, hence, electricity cost. From the results, by reducing approximately 15% of the existing current lighting energy usage, FKE could save an estimated savings of about 275kWh per day, equivalent to RM2,574.80 monthly saving in electricity bills. Thus, this information can be used by the faculty and the university as part of the information to create more awareness in promoting energy-saving and reducing energy waste and loss and supporting the energy efficiency plan, whether at the national or international level

The non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulation of ultra-thin liquid film of solid in contact with liquid film has been examined. A high temperature and low temperature has been applied respectively on the left and right sides of  the solids, creates a constant heat flux throughout the simulation system. The effect of different liquid film thicknesses on the interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) at the contact interfaces of solid and liquid or interfaces of solid-liquid (S-L) has also been investigated. Different structural quantities have been observed for varied liquid film thicknesses. The oscillation of the density profile for liquid near solid surfaces decreases with the decrease in liquid film thickness. The ITR is calculated from the temperature discontinuity and heat flux near the contact interfaces of S-L. It has been discovered that although the temperature discontinuity near the interfaces of S-L is approximately the same, the ITR is significantly influenced by the thickness of the liquid film. According to the results, it has been understood that the smaller the thickness of the liquid film, the higher the thermal energy transfer across the interfaces of S-

Hand-based biometric through finger knuckle print has emerged as a more reliable and promising alternative to conventional personal identification solutions. One of the most collaborative keys using the finger knuckle print is its ease to use, widespread public acceptance, and mostly non-intrusive procedure. This paper presents a method to retrieve texture analysis performance by making several orientations for calculating the interconnection between pixels using the fundamental local binary pattern (LBP). The study comprises two fundamental processes: feature extraction and SVM classification. The local Binary Pattern (LBP) algorithm comprises fully, and two orientations of partial LBP analysis are used to extract the feature from the images. We generated three version codes of LBP descriptors to compare the classification accuracy with the SVM classifier. The assessment found that different performance with an average of more than 90% has been achieved for all the suggested orientations
