This paper aims to raise the issue of the finitude of ens based on its constitutive principles, in Gilson's interpretation of Thomas Aquinas. Being the essence, limiting principle and receiving subject of esse, the entitative finitude seems to fall upon it. However, we explore the hypothesis that it is the very esse – relatively to the essence – the principle of such finitude. This seems to be indicated by Gilson when speaking of self-determination of esse, a degree of intensity, reciprocity, and quantity or measure of being, all of which would imply a potential aspect of the act of being. This would question the relationship between act and potency, as well as the relationship between recipient-received, held by Aquinas. In this regard, we understand that Gilson's development of the notion of virtus essendi is key to redefining the previous hypothesis, and responding to the issue raised.

    Get PDF
Naturally occurring arsenic in groundwater intended for human consumption represents a significant public health concern. Regulatory frameworks, such as the Argentine Food Code (0.01 mg/L) and Decree 2235/02 (0.05 mg/L), have established permissible limits for arsenic concentrations in drinking water. This study investigated the effectiveness of Moringa oleifera seeds in removing arsenic from two groundwater wells located in Colonia Ensayo (Paraná Aquifer). Two treatment methods were compared: Moringa seeds with seed coat (Treatment A) and without seed coat (Treatment B). The results revealed a significant interaction between the treatment type and the water source (p < 0.001), indicating that the efficiency of Moringa is influenced by the specific characteristics of the water. This was further supported by a strong negative correlation (r = -0.87) between arsenic removal efficiency and bicarbonate concentration. These findings highlight the importance of considering water chemistry when applying Moringa oleifera seed powder as a remediation method. Given its sustainable and eco-friendly nature, Moringa oleifera represents a promising alternative for reducing arsenic levels in drinking water. Future research should focus on optimizing application parameters for water sources with varying physicochemical characteristics and exploring the feasibility of medium-scale implementation.

Reconfigurable hardware devices have revolutionized the way custom electronic systems are designed, enabling solutions that maximize the use of limited resources, such as the battery life of portable devices or the space available in functional blocks that must operate in a macro system with significant area constraints. However, achieving expertise in the management of these devices is a challenge for both industry and academia. While tools currently exist that provide high-level design capabilities, the efficiency achieved in the final solution with this method is not optimal. Therefore, it is still necessary to work largely with low-level designs, particularly with hardware description languages, which have proven particularly difficult to learn for many electronic engineering students. This paper presents the results of a research project aimed at creating a cross-compilation tool that allows students to describe their hardware systems in a high-level language such as Python. The tool generates a VHDL version suitable for synthesizing a custom processor with optimal resource utilization. The results indicate an improvement in the learning rate given in terms of interest, motivation and assimilation, following Kolb's learning styles model.

Students entering Mechatronics Engineering and Technical degree often have high expectations about their professional future, but become discouraged when they realized that practical applications are addressed only in advanced years. This work proposes an educational innovation in the Basic Cycle, integrating contents of Physics I and II with the design of didactic devices using Arduino. Practical activities were developed, such as the graphical representation of the charging and discharging cycles of a capacitor using an ATmega32U4 microcontroller, allowing real-time visualization of voltage variations. This approach encourages students to take an active role by designing, programming, and experimenting with physical phenomena and their mechatronic applications, enhancing their motivation and learning. The increasing accessibility of these technologies makes it feasible to scale up the number of kits for classroom use, moving away from passive demonstrations toward hands-on experimentation. To evaluate the outcomes, we applied the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) methodology and conducted a short survey to assess students’ comprehension and their perception of the integration between physics and mechatronics. The results show a successful implementation, supporting the idea of extending this teaching strategy to other courses within the Basic Cycle of Mechatronics programs.

Compensatory Growth in Pinus ponderosa (Dougl Ex Laws) Plantations Under Early Silvicultural Treatments

Early pruning and thinning in Pinus ponderosa, plantations in Andean Patagonia triggered compensatory growth, characterized by greater trunk growth and structural adjustments. We used a factorial design and mixed-effects models to evaluate stem growth, crown light dynamics, tracheid length (TL), foliar biomass (FB), wood density (WD), and Huber values (Hv) five years after treatment. Trees under combined pruning and thinning (PT) showed the greatest basal area increment, indicating resource reallocation to supportive structures despite early foliage loss. Pruned trees maintained higher Hv and achieved partial recovery of FB. Tracheid elongation was greatest in treated trees, suggesting accelerated xylem maturation, while WD remained unchanged. These results demonstrate the structural plasticity of P. ponderosa, which maintains hydraulic function and growth after canopy disturbance. Our findings provide useful guidance for silvicultural planning in temperate plantations. Highlights: Early pruning and thinning triggered compensatory stem growth through hydraulic and structural adjustments, guiding adaptive management in Andean Pinus ponderosa plantations. The Huber value (Hv) captured the balance between conductive tissue and leaf biomass, revealing hydraulic rebalancing after canopy modification in young plantations. Tracheid elongation indicated accelerated xylem maturation in treated trees without affecting wood density. Findings highlight the potential of early canopy interventions to enhance productivity and hydraulic resilience in managed temperate conifer plantations.Early pruning and thinning in Pinus ponderosa, plantations in Andean Patagonia triggered compensatory growth, characterized by greater trunk growth and structural adjustments. The word “health regions” surfaces in publications from international and national organizations and research from different disciplines, although very few have conceptualized it (Mendes, 2013; WHO, 2017; PAHO, 2023). The objective of this article is to explore and systematize the scientific production about the concept of health regions and their dimensions of analysis in various countries, with special interest in Argentina. And highlight the theoretical contributions from Geography that enhance the operation of health regions in public health. The methodology is qualitative, based on the search and analysis of official and scientific documents that refer to health regions in times prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The elaborate systematization advances the debate on the dimensions of the health regions already worked on and enables adjustment for their operationalization in specific contexts during and after the pandemic. The indigenous peoples living in the province of Salta have historically been positioned in a situation of subalternity and vulnerability in terms of access to territorial, cultural, linguistic and health rights. In this article, we aim to understand the health and environmental conditions prior to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the way in which pre-existing inequalities in access to the health system, service infrastructure and natural resources have made visible and/or aggravated the processes of health-disease-care-death in native populations in the north of Salta. Through the analysis of various secondary sources and in-depth interviews, among the results we highlight a series of emerging dimensions that become unavoidable when understanding the social and territorial determinations of health in indigenous contexts. Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (IPD) are of great importance to public health as they are directly associated with poverty and inadequate living conditions. In this context, the adolescent population is one of the most vulnerable groups, as their physical and mental development can be compromised by these diseases. The aim of this study is to determine the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for infectious and parasitic diseases among adolescents residing in the health regions of Porto Seguro and Teixeira de Freitas, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, from 2013 to 2023. This is a retrospective ecological, descriptive study with a quantitative and territorial-based approach. The data were extracted from the Hospitalization Information System (SIH) and tabulated to obtain disease-specific morbidity coefficients for IPD. Data analysis showed that the main causes of hospitalization among adolescents were "other bacterial diseases," "other fevers due to arboviruses and hemorrhagic fevers due to viruses," and "diarrhea and gastroenteritis of infectious and presumed infectious origin," predominantly affecting male adolescents aged 15 to 19 years.
