This article proposes to construct a state of the art on the good living of infants as a philosophical practice in indigenous communities. Through an analysis of a case that occurred in Colombia in the year 2023, it explores the ways in which care is configured as a fundamental social and political practice that challenges adult-centric and hegemonic visions. Therefore, the following question is proposed based on a case analysis: What practices of care and resistance are present in indigenous children based on good living? In response to this question, a qualitative methodology was used for care as a human right and recognition of children in dialogue with ancestral knowledge.
The rupture of cerebral aneurysms represents a serious health threat, associated with high rates of mortality and morbidity. In this context, understanding the underlying pathological mechanisms is essential to improve patient evaluation and clinical management. In particular, wall shear stress (WSS) plays a key role in the formation, progression, and rupture of aneurysms. This study investigates the impact of the blood constitutive model on WSS estimation through numerical simulations of fluid dynamics in two patient-specific aneurysm geometries. Specifically, the classical newtonian model is compared against the non-newtonian Casson model, using physiologically realistic boundary conditions reported in the literature. Additionally, a methodology for generating computational domains is proposed. Results show that differences in WSS between both models remain below 3.5% throughout the cardiac cycle, both in the dome and the neck of the aneurysms. It is concluded that, under the simulated conditions, the newtonian model provides a reliable approximation for estimating WSS, reducing computational cost without compromising accuracy.
Temporal Analysis of Northern Corn Leaf Blight (Exserohilum turcicum Pass. Leonard & Suggs) Epidemics
Field trials were conducted in six locations in central-northern Córdoba, Argentina, using four maize hybrids with varying resistance to northern corn leaf blight (NCLB), caused by Exserohilum turcicum. Naturally occurring NCLB epidemics were evaluated. We analyzed disease severity (S%), disease progress curve (DPC), area under the disease progress curve, final severity (FS%) and apparent infection rate (r). Disease progress curves were simultaneously analyzed by fitting nonlinear epidemiological models (Gompertz and Logistic). Ballesteros and Villa María were the localities with the highest FS in susceptible hybrids (45% and 37.5%, respectively). Levels of FS were below 5% in Jesús María, Río Segundo and Freyre, and under 1% in El Tío. The highest AUDPC values were also observed in Ballesteros and Villa María (2150.1 and 1335.7, respectively). In the other locations, AUDPC values remained under 320, with statistically significant differences in all cases (p< 0.05). The resistant hybrid exhibited the lowest apparent infection rate compared to the other genotypes. Epidemic progress displayed, to varying degrees, sigmoid-shaped curves characteristic polycyclic diseases. On average, the Gompertz model best fitted disease progress data across all evaluated genotypes with an R² of 0.909 and an adjusted coefficient (R2*) of 0.849. The temporal analysis provided key epidemiological insights into the maize-NCLB pathosystem, supporting the development of effective management strategies.
Highlights:
Temporal analysis differentiated maize hybrids by resistance levels to NCLB.
Gompertz model provided the best fit for NCLB epidemics.
Final severity, AUDPC, and infection rates confirmed differences in hybrid resistance to NCLB.
Understanding NCLB temporal dynamics supports the development of hybrid selection and integrated management strategies.
Epidemiological tools enhance disease progress prediction and optimize NCLB control timing.Field trials were conducted in six locations in central-northern Córdoba, Argentina, using four maize hybrids with varying resistance to northern corn leaf blight (NCLB), caused by Exserohilum turcicum. Paisaje cultural en tiempos acelerados. Una reexaminación
The article discusses the relevance of the culturalist approach to landscape in the context of the planetary ecological crisis and contemporary environmental studies, a century after its fundamental components were exposed by the American geographer Carl O. Sauer. Based on recognizing the historical trajectory of the cultural landscape approach and the necessary adaptations, it is re-evaluated as a theoretical framework that allows recognition of the integral character of sociocultural and biophysical elements on the ground, from local and socially particular scales. To this end, an analytical description is made of the considerations or contributions established in the field of geography, especially from traditional cultural geography, the so-called new cultural geography, and the spatial turns. Finally, the relevance is highlighted based on necessary considerations in the current context, called “Great Acceleration”, characterized by exponential population growth, rampant urbanization, massive use of motorized vehicles, and fossil energy consumption, among other aspects. With this proposal, we argue that the cultural approach to landscape is a way of reflexively positioning oneself concerning the drastic and accelerated changes of contemporary landscapes, based on their long-standing theoretical foundations, with a broad trajectory in the analytical study of human-land interactions.

The Luracatao Valley (Molinos Department, Salta) has potential for the study of pre-Hispanic societies, as previous research attests. However, although these have been discontinuous, there is at a local level a perception of Archaeology as a plunderer of objects, although the main collectors have not strictly come from the discipline. From the convergence of interests of local communities, government agencies that took these proposals into account and an academic project interested in the generation of data for the reconstruction of isotopic ecologies of the Calchaquí Valley, a series of activities were shaped under the Citizen Science approach. As a central proposal, inputs were generated for a future community museum. To achieve this, socio-environmental calendars, community mapping and recording of ceramic pieces held by the families were carried out. The results show a strengthening of the link between heritage, identity and territory, highlighting the potential of the Citizen Science model to reconcile academic and community interests. The proposal contributes not only to heritage preservation, but also to cultural and educational development, promoting sustainability and recognition of local knowledge. We understand that this perspective can be formed as an alternative to settle disagreements between the archaeological community and local communities, while it can be replicated to address heritage conflicts in similar contexts.
Based on thirty years of fieldwork, the Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Collective of the High Valleys of Catamarca (CIIVAC in its Spanish cronym) presents its experience working in and with local communities in the valleys El Bolsón, Rodeo Gerván and Los Morteritos-Las Cuevas (Belén Department, Province of Catamarca). This contribution offers some reflections on our history as a collective with the goal of clarifyng future directions and develop a theoretical description of the collective’s duties. A fundamental node in the formation of the CIIVAC is the creation of the Community Rural Museum, which brings together and articulates ideas and collective aspirations. Far from being an ethnography, this admittedly -partial and reflexive- review of the collective's path is presented critically and politically way. In the hard times that the Argentinean scientific system is going through, we are certainly willing to face the challenge of continuing to supports overeign and inclusive science, to broaden the scope of the dialogue, and to bring our voices and those of our interlocutors to a wider public in order to think about new possibilities of interaction and exchange.
