    Get PDF
India's traditional knowledge (TK) goes back to ancient times and spreads across several disciplines. World over, there have been many concerns about TK, including its neglect, misappropriation, erosion, etc. Lately, the lack of effective communication of India’s vast TK among the masses has come into the spotlight. There have also been discourses around scientifically validated TK. This paper, based on a review of literature, looks at TK communication and its challenges. The paper also discusses the recent Indian initiative on communicating scientifically validated TK. It is concluded that for a sustainable future, nations should deeply study the TK and TK practices. Nations such as India that have a rich knowledge base should leverage on the TK. Effective communication of the TK is a vital step towards this end

Alzheimer's disease, which is a progressive neurologic disorder, is the most common form of dementia. Although there are various treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease, there is no definite treatment for this disease yet. In this study it was aimed to investigate the treatment potentials of three bis(3-(4-nitrophenyl)acrylamide) derivatives, two of which are known and one is new, for Alzheimer's disease. The study consists of three parts; in the first part of the study, synthesis and characterization studies of the investigated compounds were carried out. In the characterization of the compounds, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, LC-MS and elemental analysis techniques were used. In the second part of the study, the compounds were investigated computationally with the assistance of various computational techniques including density functional theory (DFT) calculations, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. In this part, binding free energy calculations were also performed on the investigated compounds. Results of computational studies showed that synthesized compounds interacted with AChE effectively and can be promising structures as AChE inhibitors. In the last part of the study, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of the compounds were investigated. Antioxidant activities were determined by DPPH˙ and ABTS˙⁺ radical scavenging methods. According to the DPPH˙ test, the most active compound was found to be 2, while the most active compound was found to be 3 according to the ABTS⁺ test, showing that these methods for antioxidant assay were not significantly correlated with each other. On the other hand, the results of the antimicrobial activity tests showed that compound 3 was the most active compound, which exhibited both antioxidant and antimicrobial activity

MicroRNA-20a-5p (miR-20a-5p) has been shown to function as a tumor promoter factor in several cancers. However, its role in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) remains unclear. In this study, we have made an attempt to measure the tumor tissue levels of miR-20a-5p in patients with SCLC using quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The biological function of miR-20a-5p in SCLC cells was investigated in vitro and in vivo studies, including cell proliferation, migration assays and tumorigenicity in nude mice. Meanwhile,we conducted the luciferase reporter assay to verify the biological relationship between miR-20a-5p and CCNG2. The expression of miR-20a-5p was significantly upregulated in human SCLC compared to that in normal tissues. Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that patients with high expression of miR-20a-5p are closely related with the shorter survival of SCLC. Further, multivariate analysis showed that miR-20a-5p was an independent prognostic factor. Increasing miR-20a-5p expression promotes the proliferation, migration and invasion of the NCI-H446 cells in vitro and in vivo. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay demonstrated that miR-20a-5p directly targets CCNG2. These findings suggest that miR-20a-5p levels might be a novel diagnostic and prognostic marker of SCLC. Inhibiting miR-20a-5p could be a promising therapeutic strategy for SCLC

    Get PDF
Berberine is a phytocompound from plants viz. Phellodendri cortex and Coptis rhizome, used to treat a variety of diseases. It is effective in preventing osteoporosis, but it is less effective than drugs currently used in clinical practice. In this study, we used a novel berberine derivative, WJCPR11, to promote osteoblast differentiation and to investigate its use in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. WJCPR11 at a safe concentration without toxicity increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity induced by bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) dose-dependently. The mRNA expression of ALP, osteocalcin (OC), runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), and osterix was increased, with the ALP level increasing the most. In addition, the protein abundance of bone sialoprotein (BSP), collagen, type I, alpha 1, Runx2, and osterix were also increased. Moreover, the transcriptional activity of ALP, BSP, and OC was increased by WJCPR11, with OC showing the most significant increase. The results indicate that osteoblast differentiation is promoted by WJCPR11, and it could play a role in the prevention of osteoporosis

    Get PDF
Industry 4.0 which includes new technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the internet of things etc. has brought the revolution in the field of energy management of a microgrid. Energy management is the backbone of a microgrid that needs to be controlled efficiently for a low system failure. There are a lot of issues, such as the intermittent nature of generation, proper voltage distribution, and harmonics, which may arise while implementing an energy management for a microgrid. Machine learning establishes the core of industry 4.0 and is one of the best-suited methods to mitigate such challenges in the current industry 4.0 scenario. In this paper, a Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) based machine learning approach is applied for forecasting of a photovoltaic (PV) generation in a microgrid to deal with its intermittent nature for efficient energy management. Further, a firefly optimization technique is utilized to mitigate the harmonics in the voltage. This model is implemented on a real dataset of a solar power plant in Delhi, India. The proposed approach achieves the results of high precision, recall, and accuracy, which shows the efficiency of the system to monitor and regulate uncertainties in the PV microgrid systems

On-Orbit Performance of Pd/4H-SiC Schottky UV Detectors in a Low-Earth Orbit

    Get PDF
The monitoring of solar ultraviolet radiation from a space platform is now considered essential for a wide range of fieldsincluding solar physics, atmospheric science and astrobiology. 4H-Silicon Carbide (4H-SiC) is a superior alternative toconventional materials like silicon for the fabrication of UV detectors for adverse space conditions due to its inherentradiation hardness and visible-blind nature. This paper describes the space qualification and deployment of indigenouslydeveloped Pd/4H-SiC Schottky UV detectors in a low-earth orbit (LEO) and their on-board performance. Two SiC UVdetectors were flown as a rad-hard sun detection sensor in the nanosatellite INS-2TD. The sensor has carried out solar UVflux observations continuously since its launch in February 2022 and the data gathered during the first seven months offlight is discussed in this paper

The heat and mass transfer characteristics along with Cattaneo-Christov heat flux on oscillating hydromagnetic flow of third grade nanofluid through a permeable channel under entropy generation analysis have been examined in this paper. The impacts of chemical reaction, Brownian motion, thermophoresis, Ohmic heating, and radiative heat have also been taken into consideration. The Buongiorno nanofluid model has been utilized for the present analysis. The investigation related to the present study is helpful in biomedical engineering, manufacturing industries as coolants, energy conservation, cancer treatments (like hyperthermia), dynamics of physiological fluids, biomedicines, and nano-drug suspension in pharmaceuticals. The system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) have been attained and solved by applying the Runge-Kutta 4th order method with the help of shooting process after the execution of the perturbation procedure on nondimensional partial differential equations (PDEs). The results of the present study have been deliberated by plotting graphs for the effects of various non-dimensional parameters on entropy, Bejan number, concentration, velocity, and temperature. The numerical values of heat and mass transfer rates for different physical parameters have been computed

Voltammetric investigations of functional dyspepsia drug acotiamide at pencil graphite electrode: An eco-friendly and cost effective stripping detection method

    Get PDF
First time, the electro-oxidative behaviour and determination of acotiamide at a pencil graphite electrode have been investigated under different experimental conditions using cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV), and square wave anodic stripping voltammetric (SWASV) techniques. The voltammetric responses of acotiamide have been analyzed at different scan rates, pH and concentrations. Oxidation of acotiamide at the surface of pencil graphite electrode gave two well defined irreversible peaks in the voltammograms in BR buffer of pH 7.0. The oxidation process is completely diffusion controlled. A linear response of peak current has been obtained between 15.5 to 124 μM in non-aqueous media for all the voltammetric techniques. The proposed DPASV and SWASV techniques show limit of detection at 18.58 and 13.36 μM, respectively

The effect of new compounds named, 6,6'-(((2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(azanediyl))bis(methylene))bis(2- methoxyphenol) (RSH) on the corrosion inhibiting of ST- 37 low carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl has been studied. The inhibitor effects on the corrosion behaviour of the samples have been determined at three different concentrations, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mg/L. Weight loss, polarization curves, AC impedance measurements and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) have been utilized to study the corrosion behaviour of carbon steel in corrosive environment in the presence and absence of new ligand. Results show that the inhibition occurs through adsorption of the inhibitors molecules on the metal surface. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increasing inhibitor’s concentration. Polarization data indicated that this compounds act as mixed-type inhibitors. The corrosion efficiency of RSH at an optimal concentration of 2mg/L is 86. The adsorption of inhibitors follows the Langmuir isotherm. The values of free energy of adsorption in the presence of the corrosion inhibitor are around -32 KJmol-1, which indicate chemiosorption of the molecules. Powerful Atomic Force microscopy is used for the surface morphology studies
