    Institutional stakeholder perceptions on mobile number portability implementations in Georgia and Belarus

    Mobile number portability (MNP) is considered an important condition for ensuring full competition in the telecommunications sector, enabling mobile subscribers to change their service providers any time without altering their phone numbers. In global existence already since 1997, within the post-Soviet space it was first introduced only in 2011 and 2012, in Georgia and Belarus respectively. The given article summarises views and perceptions on MNP implementations of relevant institutional stakeholders from those two countries, i.e., mobile operators and national regulatory/ policy-making authorities in charge of the telecommunications field. It was part of a larger research project that studied also the perspective of final consumers (mobile users), which is outside the scope of the present publication

    Developing Helical Grooved Drill Pipe for Increased Drive and Mud Pump Efficiency

    Grooved drilled pipe is a type of drill pipe design, which can be a solution to some of major problems faced by drilling industry and increase overall efficiency of drilling as well. The problem in reference is differential drill pipe sticking. Simply put, grooved pipe is a type of drill pipe with spiral grooves on outer side (as used for experiments and calculations in this paper). This paper gives a comparative analysis between conventional and grooved drill pipes. Analysis is made on basis of theoretical formulas and working model using control scenarios to prove efficiency of grooved pipe over conventional drill pipe. Physical scale model was carefully fabricated to simulate conditions of a wellbore (in the best possible way for a scale model), carefully considering all the aspects of a conventional well. Theoretical formulas are also used to further support advantages of grooved pipe. Fabrication of model and experiment performed is meticulously explained in the paper. Almost everything comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. I have also listed a number of possible shortcomings of this idea. Even though results of experiment were better than anticipated andefficiency of grooved pipe over conventional pipe is quite significant, even for a scale model, the practicality of this project depends on whether advantages will outweigh disadvantages or not, in a real scenario. Further this paper aims to have an idea about future development studies and upcoming possibilities

    The Failed Treatment of MDR-TB in Three Generations: A Case Study of the Household in Northeastern, Thailand

    Introduction: In Thailand TB and MDR-TB treatment was found in all levels of the unit of health service system, but the failed treatment especially for MDRTB was found 8.2% in the lower part of northeastern Thailand. In the complex situation, only the medical care cannot eradicate MDR-TB.This study aimed to explain the failure treatment of patient with MDR-TB over 3 generations within 1household.Method: This qualitative method collected data by in-depth in the province located at northeast Thailand; 5 patients and failure treatment of MDR-TB were investigated. The data was analyzed using content analysis.Introduction: In Thailand TB and MDR-TB treatment was found in all levels of the unit of health service system, but the failed treatment especially for MDRTB was found 8.2% in the lower part of northeastern Thailand. The data was analyzed using content analysis. Result: One grandmother, 78 years old, have had twice received treatments and still alive. The mother failed treatment and died from MDR-TB at 54 years old aggravated by noncompliance to drug treatment. The father defaulted treatment due to alcohol consumption, and the second treatment was cured but the subject died at 61 years old. The son and daughter comprised default treatment caused from the household problem of low income, drug addiction, alcohol consumption and divorce. The elder brother did not return to treatment and his symptoms worsened. However, the younger sister, 21 years old, returned to treatment for 4 months. The supportive factors of failed treatment that led patients to cease taking drugs more than 2 months and deny continuing treatment included low income, household problems and drug addiction. Recommendation: Only the medication could not cure or achieve successful treatment, but socio-economic factors such as the understanding of the patient’s context was crucial equally the same as the MDR-TB drug. This factor was effecting to compliance of MDR-TB patient care and treatment

    Rejection and Correction of the Fracture Mechanics Singularity Approach with its Associated Tree Modes of Crack Separation

    Limit Analysis is an prescribed exact approach of Wood Science, what is shown to also apply for wood Fracture Mechanics. Knowledge of the gradual elastic to plastic behavior and of the imitation by non-linear elasticity (and J-integral) is shown to be not needed. The linear – full plastic limit approach delivers an elastic lower bound, up to this full plastic boundary, the fracture- or yield criterion, where ultimate load behavior is described, by virtual work approach and “flow” by the normality rule. This delivers the possibility to look at any equilibrium system, which satisfies compatibility and boundary conditions and nowhere exceeds this “flow” criterion and is verified by test data. Because the accepted singularity approach does not deliver a right mixed mode fracture criterion, it is necessary to make comparisons with other possible Airy stress functions. Therefore, the derivation of the accepted, general applied, elementary singularity solution with its 3 failure modes, is discussed and compared with new theory. This new limit analysis theory is based on an older, forgotten, Airy stress function, and shows e.g., by the new approach and application to wood, that there is no real difference between strength theory and fracture mechanics and between linear and non-linear theory. It delivers the, empirical verified, exact mixed mode failure criterion for wood; shows that stresses in the isotropic wood matrix also have to be regarded separately, to explain the, only by isotropy, possible, extremely high triaxial hydrostatic stress, and stress increase by the stress spreading effect. Therefore the stresses and strengths of the isotropic wood matrix are derived. The transformation to total stresses, including the reinforcement is shortly given for the empirical verification and for literature reference. Therefore, only the derivation of the necessary corrections of the singularity approach, for isotropic material, is regarded. This leads to a necessary rejection of the, tree failure modes, singularity approach of Irwin and of associate equations. By the splitting in 3 modes, there is no compatibility and no mixed mode fracture criterion. Instead there are tree, each excluding, Airy stress functions, thus 3, each excluding, compatibility equations. Necessary is one mixed mode solution for the total load. Then the solution also is known for separate acting (thus non zero) loading components. This is done in § 4, necessarily in elliptic coordinates, to know failure, by the highest tangential, uniaxial tensile stress in the crack boundary. The tangential direction in polar coordinates is not tangential to the elliptic first expanded of the crack boundary. Therefore then not the right KIIc values are obtained. The expression in elliptic coordinates delivers (by the highest empirical correlation) the failure criterion of wood for every load combination. Transformation of this mixed mode solution to polar coordinates gives the corrected singularity method based on a mixed mode failure criterion and delivers also the definition of the stress intensity factor. This last also gives another interpretation of the Bazant curve, which is shown to be the initial mode I yield criterion.

That is why this research sheds light on this technique considering its nature, importance, peculiarities, functions, defects, and technicalities. The research also investigated the reality of images and illustrations in contemporary Arabic dictionaries and the difference between them and ancient ones.

    Income inequality and macroeconomic activity: A study of the Peruvian case

    The relationship between income inequality and macroeconomic activity has been extensively investigated for many countries, with mixed evidence over the years. In this context, the aim of the paper is to study this relationship for the Peruvian economy with emphasis on the variables statistical properties. To that end, unit root time series bootstrap simulations are applied, additionally, social and financial variables are used to explain changes in inequality. As a result, no evidence of this relationship is found when variables time series properties are taken into account so new empirical evidence on this issue is critical in light of rising income inequality worldwide and its pervasive effects on society

    Building Information Modelling Uptake: Tool Training in Nigeria

    Computer Aided Design software and their kind are generally considered as Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools; moreover the sophistication level of one determines its maturity level. Education and research are the background to innovation while training is a window to continuity in skills transfer. The BIM uptake in the developing countries is significantly lagging behind; amongst various reasons is the lack of trained professionals. Experts are evolving from the industry professionals who are first trained in the university. This study determined the capacity of Nigerian universities in providing BIM tools training for BIM adoption in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC). The study is quantitative in nature, with the primary data collected through a structured questionnaire survey within the built environment and engineering schools of Nigerian universities. The collected data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The institutions are physically ready with relatively sufficient hardware, however technically not ready due to insufficiency of up to date software. There is a significant correlation between software availability and proficiency level of training, while no correlation between academic qualification and the training proficiency. More than 70% of the students are graduating on ‘file based collaboration’ – 2D and 3D CAD knowledge with proficiency level between limited and practical application. However, the collaborative software training received proficiency level of basic to practical application; a 13% trained on collaboration software is very little to providing experts for the industry. This reveals a clear setback in the tools training to carter for the BIM uptake in the country

On the other hand, this study has focused on identifying and analyzing some currently dormant volcanoes sites and their extension to the surface. This study used computerized programs, such as the World Geodetic System (WGS84), as well as the (ERDASIMAGINE) system to determine the volcanic sites in order to collect and analyze data. It has reached a few findings and recommendations regarding the denomination of volcanoes, the population’s safety guarantee, the resources of such areas, as well preserving the country’s landmark

    The purpose of this research is to examine the role of women in environmental management in Myanmar. In Myanmar society, women have a tradition of environmental care. From childhood, young Myanmar girls are trained to undertake work in and around their house. It is a common sight in rural areas to see young girls caring for their siblings and collecting water or firewood during school holidays. Women in rural areas are traditionally aware of how to use fuel wood properly, how to get and store safe drinking water, and which plants can be used as indigenous medicine. In this way women have played an important role in reducing resource use, reusing and recycling resources to minimize waste and excessive consumption. This research revolves around the issues such as women’s perspectives on the environment; the nature of their participation to engage in environmental protection and conservation; and environmental management policies of Myanmar

    In order to understand better factors that researchers consider when choosing journals for submitting their scientific paper Open Science Journal (OSJ) editorial board decided to conduct a short survey among the visitors of OSJ website. Survey was conducted between Jun 2016 and June 2017. Survey consists of 14 questions and we using Google Forms to collect responses. We post the link to the survey at OSJ webpage and include in one of our newsletters that we send at the beginning of 2017
