SEMIOTICS SYSTEM’S PERSPECTIVE IN MULTIMODAL EFL TEXTBOOK: MEANING-MAKING MODES IN FOCUS
AbstractThe prominent role of textbooks as a learning media is frequently used by educators and learners alike to achieve specific learning objectives. By the standards set forth by the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP), books are deemed effective if they meet four criteria: content, presentation, language, and graphics. The elements identified in the study of multimodal discourse within semiotic systems: linguistic, visual, audio, gestural, and spatial modalities. The combination of two or more semiotic systems is defined as multimodal discourse; it facilitates learners' cognitive and creative development. This article explores the semiotic system potential by Anstey and Bull as textbook evaluation to meet the meaning-making in the EFL textbook, "English for Nusantara," published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. The objective of this research is to examine the concept of multimodal discourse as defined within the theoretical framework of Anstey and Bull's semiotic system theory. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative research with content analysis. The findings show that five different modes were used graded; visual 32%, gestural 23,9%, linguistics 22%, spatial 16,6%, and audio 5,4%. The textbook met the criteria for a quality educational resource, offering valuable cognitive implications for the user through its incorporation of multimodal text. It confirmed the importance of the semiotics system's potential modes in constructing meaning for both learners and educators. The meaning categorization involves: fostering the development of meaningful character traits, creating a sense of unity amidst the diversity of Pancasila, encouraging self-love, and cultivating heightened environmental awareness. Keywords: meaning-making, mode, semiotic system, textbook
TEACHER DIFFICULTIES IN TEACHING LINGUISTICS: A SEMANTIC MASTERING
Teaching semantic concepts in tertiary linguistics programs has presented significant challenges for instructors. However, there needs to be a more in-depth exploration of this issue, hindering the understanding of underlying problems that impede effective semantics instruction. This qualitative phenomenological study aims to fill this gap by examining the difficulties faced by 15 experienced linguistics lecturers while teaching semantics courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Through in-depth semi-structured interviews, four major themes emerge, encompassing key pedagogical obstacles. First, students needed help to grasp complex, abstract, and philosophical semantic theories. Secondly, the technical precision required for semantic role labelling and predicate logic translation proved overwhelming for learners. Thirdly, establishing relevance to real-world applications proved to be challenging. Finally, excessive abstractions led to widespread student disengagement, motivation issues, and avoidance. The findings highlight the significant need for instructional design and pedagogical support in tertiary linguistics education to improve semantic teaching ability and learning outcomes. Proposed measures include specialized instructor training, scaffolding complex concepts, leveraging technology, fostering interdisciplinary connections, and enhancing social perceptions of semantics utility. These initiatives aim to develop the sophisticated semantic thinking required for advanced linguistics practice. Further quantitative research is suggested to validate and generalize these qualitative insights, informing nationwide improvements in systemic semantics curriculum

The theory used is Max Weber's concept of social action. The approach taken is a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Data collection techniques are purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The types of data are primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques were carried out using document study, observation and in-depth interviews. Data analysis, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of field research can be concluded that the rationality of the Malays working for Chinese entrepreneurs who worked for the Chinese ethnic group because of the job opportunities provided at that time, then the work given was in accordance with the abilities possessed and the results obtained by the workers were in accordance with the needs. There is a relationship of mutual need between Malay and Chinese ethnicities
pengembangan lembar kerja peserta didik pada materi peralatan jaringan kelas XI TJKT 2 di SMK N 1 Painan
This research aims to evaluate the validity and practicality of developing Student Worksheets (LKPD) in the Computer Network Equipment subject for class XI at SMK Negeri 1 Painan. Using the ADDIE (Analysis-Design-Development-Implement-Evaluate) model, this research describes the systematic process of developing specific and complete teaching materials according to student needs and the school curriculum. LKPD developed using the Canva application, allows students to study independently easily. Analysis of the percentage of validation levels by media experts and teachers shows that the LKPD is very valid (86.11%), while the level of practicality assessed by students at SMK Negeri 1 Painan reached 97.50%, with the "Very Practical" category. The research results show that this LKPD is suitable for use in the learning process, by increasing students' learning motivation and facilitating understanding of the material. Using the ADDIE approach, the development of this LKPD goes through analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. It can be concluded that the LKPD developed is very valid and practical, and suitable for application in computer and network engineering learning in vocational high schools. This shows the importance of using the ADDIE model in developing teaching materials that are effective and relevant to student needs. This research makes a significant contribution in improving the quality of computer and network engineering learning at SMK Negeri 1 Painan and can be a reference for developing teaching materials in other schools

THE VARIATIONS OF CLINKER SUPERPARAMAGNETIC VALUE FROM PT. SEMEN PADANG BY USING A BARTINGTON MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY METER SENSOR TYPE B
Clinker is a significant material in the cement manufacturing process. Before clinker formation, the raw material is burned in a Rotary Kiln with a temperature of up to 1450℃. After that, it is cooled in a Greet Cooler to a temperature of 100℃ and produces clinker. During the clinker manufacturing process, always being test on samples, but there has been no test based on magnetic susceptibility. The purpose of this research is to know the variation of the superparamagnetic clinker value based on the magnetic susceptibility value. The method used is the rock magnetism method using a Bartington Magnetic Susceptibility Meter MS2B Type. A sampling of clinker is taken hourly every day from PT. Padang Cement. From the value of magnetic susceptibility based on low-field magnetic susceptibility , it was obtained that the values varied from 3.2 × 10-8m3/kg to 22.6 ×10-8m3/kg. The frequency of dependents is also diverse, ranging from 0.0% to 7.4%. Based on the obtained, the type of grain produced also varies. 136 samples of clinker containing less than 10% superparamagnetic grains, and 32 samples belonging to Medium have a percentage of 2%-10% where the sample comprises superparamagnetic grains. Between 10% and 75% is a mixture of fine and coarse superparamagnetic grains
