The Dynamics Of Space Struggles Over The Lae-Lae Island Reclamation Project In Makassar City
No full textThe planned reclamation of Lae-Lae Island undoubtedly poses a threat to the marine ecosystem and the livelihoods of the surrounding fishing communities. This research aims to depict the dynamics of spatial contestation arising from this situation. To elucidate these dynamics, the researcher employs Henri Lefebvre's sociology of space and Edward Soja's geographical imagination. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation involving twenty-three informants. Findings reveal the dynamics of spatial contestation on Lae-Lae Island, including the emergence of spatial awareness as a socio-economic arena and the mobilization of resources from both the island community and external parties. Internal mobilization, led by community leaders, actively fosters solidarity among residents in rejecting the reclamation, while external resource mobilization involves actors from environmental organizations, media, and academia. The research concludes that community resistance stems from the direct implications of reclamation on residents' living space and livelihoods, particularly those of fishermen. The integration of Henri Lefebvre's sociological analysis and Edward Soja's geographical imagination provides a fresh perspective on social movement phenomena and spatial contestation

Exploring Multicultural Family Dynamics: An Analysis of Family Dysfunction in Mochtar Lubis’s Senja di Jakarta
No full textThe characters representing couples and the familial system portrayed in Mochtar Lubis's novel "Senja di Jakarta" exhibit forms of family dysfunction that should ideally be characterized by a sense of comfort and security. This is demonstrated through the relationships constructed by the characters within various households. As this issue evolves, the researcher became interested in conducting a study with the hope that future generations could better understand the significance of family and how familial roles can be appropriately and effectively fulfilled. The families depicted through the characters in the novel face various issues that serve as primary factors contributing to family dysfunction. Among these primary factors are a lack of communication, minimal understanding and care among family members, and the normalization of prioritizing one's own thoughts over those of others. This research examines the forms of family dysfunction in Mochtar Lubis's novel "Senja di Jakarta," utilizing a literary sociology approach by employing William J. Goode's family sociology theory. Forms of dysfunction are influenced by significant changes resulting from the emergence of new values within a family; the breakdown of relationships is considered a social issue for individuals or couples, leading to feelings of fear and apprehension towards marriage. The concept of a fragmented family portrays a form of familial disunity and emotional unsupportiveness among its members. Additionally, the absence of one partner due to unwanted circumstances and the failure of undesired significant roles represent two forms of family dysfunction that occur beyond control and directly impact family sustainability. This research is expected to contribute significantly to a deeper understanding of familial issues, particularly within literary works such as novels. A qualitative method was employed in this study, emphasizing textual facts that were subsequently examined, understood, categorized, and analyzed based on forms of family dysfunction
ANALYSIS OF POTENTIAL FOR PHOTOVOLTAIC ROOFTOP USING HELIOSCOPE SOFTWARE (CASE STUDY: UNIVERSITAS KRISTEN IMMANUEL)
No full textTelah disimulasikan potensi PLTS Atap di Gedung Immanuel Music Center (IMC) menggunakan software Helioskop. Dipilih tiga lokasi atap yaitu Gedung IMC, Gedung Auditorium Musik Gereja (AMG) selatan, dan AMG utara. Selanjutnya parameter produksi energi listrik, performance ratio, shading, dan kWh/kWp dianalisis. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan bahwa nilai produksi energi listrik satu tahun mulai yang paling tinggi adalah di atap AMG Utara (31.560 MWh), atap AMG Selatan (29.290 MWh), dan atap IMC (20,400 MWh). Nilai performance ratio berturut-turut adalah 81.30 % (atap AMG utara ), 81.80 % (atap AMG selatan), dan 52.6 % (atap IMC). Gedung IMC berpotensi terkena bayangan sedangkan pada gedung AMG Utara dan Selatan bebas dari bayangan. Potensi nilai kWh/kWp secara berurutan dari yang paling tinggi adalah atap AMG utara (1.434,6) kemudian atap AMG selatan (1331,3) dan terakhir atap IMC (927,3). Dari hasil simulasi maka lokasi yang paling potensial untuk dipasang PLTS adalah atap Gedung AMG bagian utara
PERFORMING PUBLIC SPEAKING: SELF-EFFICACY AND SPEAKING ANXIETY IN NON-ACADEMIC CLASSROOM CONTEXT
No full textThis study presents the obstacles met by the education ambassadors in performing their communication skill. It is widely known that the recruitment procedure would demand the participants to be well-achieved both in hard and soft skills. Public speaking ability is one of the skills should be mastered so participants might deliver their ideas clearly. However, several variables namely self-efficacy and speaking anxiety are always claimed as important issues to be considered. Fifteen participants were involved as the sample of this study. The Self-Efficacy Questionnaire and Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (PRPSA) Questionnaire were used to collect the data. To obtain the correlation degree between the two discussed variables, the Pearson Product Moment formula was used. The findings of this study would provide beneficial information about the relationship between self-efficacy enhancement and the reduction of speaking anxiety in front of the public for the target sample community
STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON THE USE OF AI IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING
No full textThis research paper aims to investigate students' perceptions regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in English language learning. With the increasing prevalence of AI technology in educational settings, understanding how students perceive its role in enhancing language acquisition is of paramount importance. This study employed a qualitative approach with narrative inquiry method, to explore students' attitudes, beliefs, and experiences related to AI integration in their English learning journey. The participants of this study were 20 students from Accounting, Management and Islamic Economic from Faculty of Economic and Business Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan. The findings from this research shed light on the benefits, challenges, and potential areas of improvement in utilizing AI for English language learning. The result shows that this study reflect a generally positive attitude toward the integration of AI in English language learning. Participants recognized the potential benefits of AI, such as personalized learning pathways, instant feedback, and enhanced practice opportunities. Hence, they are knowing the errors, speeding up the process and adding the insight into thinking
HATE SPEECH ON MAUDY AYUNDA’S INSTAGRAM POST
No full textThe advent of social media has facilitated convenience in daily living. In addition to exerting a positive influence, it is important to acknowledge that social media also has a detrimental impact. The emergence of negative repercussions is observed, notably through a surge in instances of linguistic crimes that yield detrimental outcomes. Language crimes encompass several forms of linguistic transgressions. This investigation falls within the domain of Forensic Linguistics. The objective of this research was to uncover instances of hate speech inside the comments section directed towards Maudy Ayunda in the G20 Speech Case on the Instagram News Feed. The feminist viewpoint was employed to examine the impact of societal patriarchal norms on the occurrence of hate speech directed towards Maudy Ayunda. This study employed a descriptive analysis methodology, utilizing data sources derived from comments made by netizens. The data was collected by examining the comments section of Instagram, and the author captured screenshots of selected comments for analysis. The results indicate that the dataset contains a total of ten instances of hate speech, which can be further categorized into eight instances of insults, one instance of blasphemy, and one instance of provocation. The study's findings indicate that individuals' opinions exhibit prejudice when it comes to influencing hate speech directed towards a female character
THE USE OF ACTIVETEACH AS A DIGITAL MEDIA TO IMPROVE LISTENING COMPREHENSION (A Classroom Action Research at Grade 8 of SMP Karya Bangsa Sintang)
No full textListening plays a crucial part in English language acquisition. This language skill is infrequently taught by the English teacher in the class. Classroom Action Research is used in this study in three cycles to collect the data. It was conducted in three meetings for each cycle. This study aimed to improve students’ listening comprehension in terms of accuracy of answers and understanding of main idea by using digital media in a form of application called ActiveTeach in teaching English to Grade 8 at SMP Karya Bangsa Sintang. The participants of this study were 22 students consisted of 10 females and 12 males of Grade 8 at SMP Karya Bangsa Sintang in academic year of 2022/2023. The findings showed that the use of ActiveTeach Wider World Level 3 to teach listening in terms of accuracy of answers and understanding of main idea improved the students’ listening comprehension. The listening activities given by using ActiveTeach improved students’ interest and curiosity to the learning materials since it offers audio and visual media to deliver the English materials. Furthermore, the listening test scores in each cycle were varied based on the students’ understanding of each material and the activities given during all the meetings
EFL TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION TOWARD THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GENRE-BASED APPROACH IN INDONESIAN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS
No full textThis study aimed to investigate junior high school EFL teachers' perception toward the implementation of genre-based approach as a suggested teaching model of English from 2004 up to the newest curriculum. The design of this research was a descriptive qualitative study. It was clearly proved that teachers considered the GBA as an effective model that aligned with the current student-centered approach in the latest curriculum. Numerous teachers, unfortunately, confessed that they only utilized this model on exceptional cases since it demands students to have a wide range of cognitive skills as well as be passionately committed to learning. The data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with the 15 English teachers of junior high schools in Bandung, Indonesia. The findings showed that some teachers still needed help in implementing the stages of GBA, mostly at the stage of Independent Construction of the Text, due to a lack of teachers' training, resulting in many problems in the process of GBA implementation
UPAYA PENINGKATAN KESADARAN LINGKUNGAN GUNA MENUNJANG PENINGKATAN PENDAPATAN MASYARAKAT
No full textRapid population growth has pushed the volume of waste to increase due to increased public consumption. The management of household waste by the community is still relatively low. This phenomenon is also seen in the Griya Pesona Housing in Padang City. The results of preliminary observations and interviews show that there is still a low level of public awareness to dispose of waste in official waste disposal sites and the low role of the community in supporting government programs related to household waste management. This study aims to build public awareness and concern in the Griya Pesona Housing City of Padang in managing household waste. Environmental communication is carried out using mass communication in the form of banners and personal communication in the form of door to door counseling by distributing brochures. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in citizen awareness about household waste management where there is a change in attitude, knowledge and behavior after education is carried out by implementing mass and personal communication strategies. Behavior change through personal communication is more influential than mass communication. Mass communication can be used to increase knowledge, but behavior change is more influential when personal communication is used. In addition, the community has also begun to realize the importance of maintaining cleanliness and managing household waste, such as separating waste by type and disposing of waste in official disposal sites.Keywords: communication strategy, environment, community awareness, waste managemen
