EDUCATIONAL CHARACTER VALUES IN ACEH FOLK STORIES: BANTA BARENSYAH AS AN INVENTION FOR TEACHING MATERIALS IN SCHOOL
Folklore is a local wisdom that contains many Indonesian cultural values. Many folk tales tell stories about people's lives and tell history or societal figures, accompanied by values that are very good if taught in schools. Acehnese folklore is a form of oral literature transmitted by word of mouth, containing messages or advice from experiences or natural events linked to events experienced by humans, ancestors, or pious people at that time. This research aims to describe the values of character education in the Acehnese folklore Banta Barensyah. This story is full of character education values from which many lessons can be learned to become role models for today's young generation. The story of the hard work and love between parents and children is so beautifully described, right up to the story's happy ending. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques in the form of listening and note-taking techniques, as well as data analysis techniques in the form of content analysis. Based on the study carried out, there are 13 educational character values in this folklore, including: 1) religiosity; 2) honesty; 3) hard work; 4) creativity; 5) independent; 6) democratic; 7) curiosity; 8) national spirit; 9) appreciates achevements; 10) friendly/communicative; 11) love of peace; 12) social care; and 13) responsibility. So, it can be concluded that the Acehnese folklore Banta Barensyah is very good to use as teaching material for Indonesians and schools
EVALUASI PENGALAMAN PENGGUNA PORTAL AKADEMIK MENGGUNAKAN METODE USER EXPERIENCE QUESTIONNAIRE
The academic portal plays a crucial role as the primary medium supporting various academic activities of students at the University of X, including course registration, grade access, class scheduling, and other administrative services. Nevertheless, several complaints remain, particularly regarding the user interface design and system stability, which highlights the need for a more in-depth evaluation of user experience. This study aims to assess and analyze students’ experiences in using the University of X’s academic portal by applying the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). The instrument covers six key dimensions: Attractiveness, Perspicuity, Efficiency, Dependability, Stimulation, and Novelty. The respondents of this study consisted of active students at the University of X who were selected as the sample. The results of the analysis indicate that three dimensions—Attractiveness, Efficiency, and Stimulation—fall into the Above Average category, while Novelty obtained a Good score. In contrast, Perspicuity and Dependability were categorized as Below Average, suggesting the need for improvements in navigation clarity and technical reliability. Overall, these findings provide a comprehensive overview of students’ perceptions of the academic portal and serve as an important foundation for developers in formulating strategies to enhance service quality and user experience in the futur
INTEGRATING THINK PAIR SHARE AND THREE STEP INTERVIEW TO ENHANCE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT
This study aims to examine the improvement of students’ speaking achievement and their perceptions toward the implementation of integrated Think–Pair–Share (TPS) and Three-Step Interview (TSI). The research employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 30 ninth-grade students at SMPN 4 Metro. Instruments included a speaking test (pretest and posttest) and a perception questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test and descriptive analysis. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ speaking scores from a pretest mean of 84.80 to a posttest mean of 89.40 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, students’ perceptions toward the TPS–TSI were positive with overall mean = 3.86, with the Target and Situation dimensions receiving the highest means, 3.94. These findings suggest that the integration of TPS–TSI not only enhances speaking skills but also fosters a supportive learning environment aligned with students’ future goals
Analyzing Externalities of Urban Elite Gated Communities: A Case Study in Citraland Gama City Medan North Sumatera
Studies on externalities and gated communities are common. However, gated community externalities are rare. This study takes the example of Citraland Gama City (CGC) which was developed on an area of 211.57 ha in the middle of the suburban community of Medan City. The main objective of this study is to determine the positive and negative externalities felt by the surrounding community related to the development of CGC. With a qualitative approach, this study uses observation methods, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The key informants to be interviewed are people living around the housing complex area and people who visit. The results of this study indicate that public perception of CGC provides positive externalities for the community, including public facilities that provide facilities for walking, free hangouts, hanging out, exercising, creating content, and as a shortcut. Another positive externality is providing benefits from the public facilities themselves which include Orchard Road and Boulevard, footpaths, fountains, flyovers, and green infrastructure offered in the middle. However, this also provides negative externalities for the community and the environment. The implications of this study indicate that people who usually sell around the CGC area have lost a strategic location for selling because it is prohibited by the management. The novelty of the study states that the construction of CGC causes changes in land cover from teak plantations to built-up land which results in the loss of rainwater capacity. This is thought to be the main cause of flooding in the surrounding area which had never happened before the CGC
Local Government Discretion in Improving The Efficiency of Public Services
Government discretion plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of public service delivery, particularly in addressing complex societal needs. This study aims to explore the dimensions of governmental discretion, examining its potential to improve public service quality while identifying inherent challenges. The research employs a qualitative approach, including case studies, and identifies key factors influencing discretion, such as organizational culture, resource management, and legal frameworks. While discretion can encourage innovation and responsiveness, it also carries risks of mismanagement and reduced accountability without appropriate safeguards. The study's findings indicate that regional government discretion, although effective in improving public service efficiency, must be implemented with consideration of existing challenges, such as limited resources and managerial capacity. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the concept of discretion with digital technology and the enhancement of public participation. It also offers concrete recommendations on how to improve the effectiveness of discretion in the context of more transparent and accountable local government practices. This research further emphasizes the importance of creating a clear legal framework that supports better management of discretion without posing the risk of abuse of power
PERBEDAAN HASIL BELAJAR SISWA MATERI PERSAMAAN GARIS LURUS YANG MENGGUNAKAN MODEL PROBLEM BASED LEARNING DENGAN MODEL DIRECT INSTRUCTION DI SMP NEGERI 2 TOMPASO
This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with Direct Instruction (DI) in improving student learning outcomes on straight line equations. The focus of the research is to test whether the academic achievement of students taught through PBL is superior to those using DI. This study adopted a comparative method with a quasi-experiment design, specifically Post-test Only Control Group Design. The research subjects consisted of two homogeneous classes in level VIII: class VIIIA (as the experimental group) with 20 students who received PBL-based learning, and class VIIIB (as the control group) with 20 students who were taught through DI. Data were obtained from the post-test results of both classes after the learning intervention. Statistical analysis showed the average post-test score of the experimental class was 82.75, while the control class obtained an average of 74.95. Through hypothesis testing, the value of tcount = 2.178 and ttable = 2.0243 was obtained. Becausetcount> ttable, the null hypothesis(H₀) is rejected. The results of the analysis prove that learning straight line equations using the PBL model results in significantly higher learning achievement than the application of the DI model. This finding corroborates the claim that the problem-based approach is more effective in improving students' understanding of the topic
PENERAPAN MODEL PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MATERI STATISTIKA DI KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 10 MANADO
This study was motivated by the low student learning achievement in Statistics material and the lack of active involvement of students in learning, so it aims to test the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in improving learning outcomes compared to the Direct Instruction (DI) model. Using quasi-experiment method with Posttest Only Control Group Design, the research involved class VIII-3 as the experimental group (PBL) and VIII-5 as the control group (DI). The analysis results showed that the average posttest score of the PBL group was significantly higher than the DI group, proving that the application of PBL can improve students' understanding of Statistics material at SMP Negeri 10 Manado. This finding recommends the use of PBL as a learning alternative while opening up opportunities for further research with supporting variables such as the role of the teacher or learning media

EXAMINING CHALLENGES IN RURAL ENGLISH EDUCATION
Despite nationwide challenges in English language acquisition, students in geographically isolated regions like Bengkalis Island, Indonesia, face unique obstacles. Drawing upon the theoretical framework that posits the unique challenges of English teaching and learning in rural areas, this qualitative study delves into the specific challenges encountered by first-year students (n=537) at Politeknik Negeri Bengkalis, all of whom completed high school on the island. Through semi-structured interviews, the study explores these challenges and reveals common struggles with grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, similar to urban students. However, the influence of teacher competence and mother tongue interference emerge as potentially distinct challenges in this rural context. Understanding these unique obstacles can inform targeted interventions to enhance English language learning outcomes for students in isolated regions of Indonesia
UTILIZATION OF DIRECT INSTRUCTION LEARNING MODEL BASED ON LECTURE AND QUESTION AND ANSWER METHODS IN CLASS V SDN 06 PADANG BESI PEMANFAATAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN DIRECT INSTRUCTION BERBASIS METODE CERAMAH DAN TANYA JAWAB DI KELAS V SDN 06 PADANG BESI
ABSTRACTThis study aims to describe the basic teaching skills of teachers and the application of the Direct Instruction (DI) learning model combined with the lecture and question and answer method in learning in class V of SDN 06 Padang Besi. The approach to this study is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through direct observation and interviews with teachers. The results of the study indicate that teachers have implemented learning systematically, starting from the opening to the closing by paying attention to the structure and objectives of learning. Teachers demonstrate mastery of basic teaching skills, such as opening lessons, explaining materials, asking questions, and providing feedback. The lecture method is used to convey core materials, while the question and answer method plays a role in building active interaction with students. The Direct Instruction model used shows effectiveness in conveying information in a directed manner, although there are still shortcomings such as limited learning media and lack of strategy variation. The evaluation shows that the combination of the DI model with the lecture and question and answer method is able to create efficient learning, but still needs to be improved through the use of more interactive media and adaptive classroom management. This study recommends the integration of active learning strategies to support the diversity of student learning styles and increase participation in the teaching and learning process. Keywords: Direct instruction, lecture, Q&A, teaching skills, elementary school.
