MINANGKABAU LOCAL WISDOM-BASED EDUCATIONAL TOURISM AS AN EFFORT TO FOSTER CULTURAL IDENTITY AMONG THE YOUNGER GENERATION
Minangkabau local wisdom-based educational tourism is an approach that integrates elements of education, recreation, and sustainable cultural preservation. Kubu Gadang Tourism Village in Padang Panjang City is a concrete example of the application of this concept through various traditional activities, such as making onde-onde, planting rice, playing traditional musical instruments, randai, traditional pacu upiah games, and making pupuik from rice stalks. These activities are not only tourist attractions, but also a means of contextual cultural learning for the younger generation because they can learn directly through real experiences, interactions with local communities, and appreciation of the traditional values that live in the community. This study aims to examine how Minangkabau local wisdom-based educational tourism can foster cultural identity among the younger generation. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the involvement of young people in various educational tourism activities increases their knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Minangkabau cultural values. In addition, these activities strengthen their sense of belonging, pride, and responsibility for their cultural identity, while encouraging the active participation of young people in efforts to preserve traditions. These findings indicate that Minangkabau-based educational tourism has great potential as an effective medium for transmitting cultural values to future generations in a sustainable manner amid the rapid pace of globalization. This study recommends strengthening collaboration between the community, government, educational institutions, and the private sector to develop more structured, innovative, and sustainable educational tourism programs so that Minangkabau cultural values can continue to be instilled in the younger generation, thereby strengthening, solidifying, and preserving their cultural identity
Strategies of Local Communities in Maintaining the Existence of Kapau Rice as a Traditional Culinary Identity in the Contemporary Era (Case Study: Nagari Kapau, Tilatang Kamang Subdistrict, Agam Regency)
This study explains the shift in consumption patterns among communities from traditional foods to fast food. The purpose of this study is to explain the strategies used by the Nagari Kapau community in preserving the traditional Nasi Kapau dish in an era of globalization and modernization, such as KFC, McDonald's, and others. Bourdieu's Habitus Theory explains the ability of communities to adapt to modernization. The research methodology uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The results show that the community's strategies for preserving Nasi Kapau include (1) maintaining the authenticity of the recipe, (2) innovating and adapting to the modern era, utilizing social media and food service platforms as promotional tools, and (3) holding local cultural events. These efforts are carried out collectively by traders, families, and the local community as a form of social and cultural responsibility. Nasi Kapau has survived globalization thanks to the collective awareness of the community in preserving traditional cuisine through a combination of cultural preservation, innovation, and the use of technology. This strategy not only preserves local culture but also strengthens the social identity of the Minangkabau community in the modern era
IMPLEMENTASI ALGORITMA WELCH-POWELL PADA PEWARNAAN GRAF WILAYAH DI KALIMANTAN TIMUR
Graph theory is a branch of mathematical study that studies the relationship of a non-empty set which contains several elements called vertices and a list of paired elements called edges. Graph coloring is a technique of adding color to every point on a graph. The purpose of this study is to make it easier for map readers to distinguish each region on a map of East Kalimantan Province. This study implements graph coloring using the Welch-Powell algorithm method which colors the graph based on the highest degree of the end point. This study resulted in graph coloring on the East Kalimantan map obtaining a chromatic number X(G) = 3 in red for the Kutai Kartanegara, Paser, and Berau regions, then blue for the North Penajam Paser, Mahakam Ulu, Botang, and Samarinda regions, and the color green for West Kutai, East Kutai and Balikpapan
ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILLS THROUGH THE USE OF SHADOWING TECHNIQUE: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
This research aims to investigate the effect of the shadowing technique on improving the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Palu, particularly in terms of accuracy and comprehensibility. Shadowing is a learning method that involves listening to and immediately repeating the speech of a native speaker to develop natural pronunciation, intonation, and sentence structure. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The subjects were 27 eleventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was an oral speaking test that focused on two assessment aspects: accuracy and comprehensibility. The results showed an increase in the students’ average score from 42.12 in the pre-test to 62.03 in the post-test. The hypothesis testing using a t-test revealed that the t-count value (3.936) was higher than the t-table value (1.706) at a 0.05 significance level, indicating that the hypothesis was accepted. This means that the shadowing technique was effective in improving students’ speaking skills, especially in helping them overcome difficulties in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Based on these findings, the shadowing technique can be considered an effective and interactive strategy for teaching speaking in English language classrooms

LINGUISTIC IDENTITY AND POWER IN MSME CODE-SWITCHING ADVERTISEMENTS: A CRITICAL DISCOURSE STUDY OF WEST SUMATERA
This research explores how Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in West Sumatra employ code-switching in their advertising discourse to construct linguistic identity, express cultural belonging, and project entrepreneurial modernity. Using Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as the analytical framework, this study examines linguistic features, forms of code-switching, and the underlying ideological meanings within promotional banners and billboards that combine English and Indonesian. The findings reveal that code-switching serves as more than a marketing strategy it functions as a socio-symbolic practice through which entrepreneurs negotiate between local authenticity and global aspirations. The frequent use of English, despite notable errors in diction, spelling, and syntax, underscores its symbolic power as a marker of prestige and progress in the post-pandemic economic landscape. However, these linguistic inaccuracies also indicate challenges in language proficiency and access to educational resources, exposing power asymmetries between local entrepreneurs and global linguistic norms. From a sociolinguistic standpoint, code-switching embodies both empowerment and vulnerability: it enables small businesses to gain visibility in global markets while simultaneously revealing structural inequalities in linguistic capital. The study concludes that language operates as a key site of negotiation where identity, economy, and ideology intersect. It recommends enhancing critical language awareness and multilingual marketing literacy in MSME training programs. Future research is encouraged to examine digital advertising discourses to understand how linguistic entrepreneurship evolves in online spaces. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on sociolinguistics, linguistic entrepreneurship, and the politics of language in Indonesia’s evolving marketplace
HUMANISTIC ANIMATION AND ECOLOGICAL LITERACY: ENHANCING READING MOTIVATION AMONG ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
This study explores integrating humanistic animated learning media with ecological education to improve elementary students’ reading interest. Drawing on principles of humanistic pedagogy, the intervention aimed to cultivate empathy, critical thinking, and environmental awareness while simultaneously stimulating literacy skills. A quasi-experimental design was employed with 217 participants, who engaged with animated stories centered on ecological themes. Data were collected using questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews, and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that students exposed to the animated human-ecological content demonstrated significantly higher reading interest levels than their control group peers. Moreover, the narratives fostered a deeper engagement with ecological issues, highlighting the potential of digital media to address dual objectives of literacy development and value education. However, limitations of the study include the short intervention period, reliance on self-reported measures, and lack of long-term follow-up. These findings contribute to current literacy and environmental education debates by showing that combining humanistic approaches with multimedia can produce meaningful educational outcomes. Future research should extend this model across different cultural and socio-economic contexts, employ longitudinal designs, and assess broader cognitive and affective impacts. This study provides insights for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers seeking innovative strategies to integrate literacy promotion with sustainable education goals
ENHANCING READING ABILITY OF SMP BUDI DHARMA DUMAI STUDENTS THROUGH ICRS BASED ON CEFR
This quantitative pre-experimental research was undertaken to investigate the pedagogical efficacy of the CEFR-aligned Inquiry Complexity Reading Strategy (ICRS) model in enhancing the reading proficiency of second-year students (N=26) at SMP Budi Dharma Dumai. Rooted in the principles of Inquiry-Based Learning and Connectivism, the ICRS model was implemented to actively foster critical and creative reading ability through collaboration. Data collected via a One Group Pretest-Posttest design were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test. The empirical results demonstrated a statistically significant enhancement in reading ability, evidenced by the substantial increase in the mean score from 58.85 (Fair) to 82.88 (Excellent). The t-test confirmed this significant difference (p < 0.05), further supported by a very large effect magnitude (Cohen’s d = -2.061). These findings lead to the conclusion that the CEFR-based ICRS model is highly effective in improving overall reading proficiency, successfully reducing the achievement gap, and supporting the differentiated learning goals of the Merdeka Curriculum in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context
