Asset and Liability Management (ALMA), Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR), and Zakat Collectively Contribute to Increasing Company Value, as Seen from the Perspective of Sharia Economic Theory (SET)

    No full text
Increasing the value of a banking company based on Islamic corporate theory is not only about financial profit, but also about sustainability, justice, and blessings in business. This study aims to reveal and analyze the role of Asset and Liability Management (ALMA) as a form of accountability to humans, Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR) as a form of accountability to nature, and zakat as a form of accountability to God in optimizing company value based on Islamic Corporate Theory. This study is a quantitative study with a causal associative research type, the population in this study is 14 Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia. Data analysis uses multiple linear regression with e-Views as an analytical tool. The results show that Asset and Liability Management (ALMA) and Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR) have a positive effect on the value of Islamic banking companies, while zakat does not affect the value of Islamic banking companies; this is because the role of Islamic banking in collecting zakat funds is not optimal. Simultaneously, 96% of company value can be explained by three independent variables: ALMA, ICSR, and Zakat. Meanwhile, other variables outside the model explain the remaining 4%. This figure indicates a significant influence, meaning that ALMA, ICSR, and Zakat, if properly managed in Islamic banking, can become pillars for increasing the value of Islamic banking companies. The novelty of this research is that these three pillars should be a focus for Islamic banks to increase company value, particularly in strengthening their role in collecting zakat funds

Preservation of Ancient Manuscript and Transliteration of Tambo Minangkabau Surambi Alam Sungai Pagu: Web-Based Digital Literacy

    No full text
The old text of Tambo Surambi Alam Sungai Pagu constitutes a significant cultural heritage of the Minangkabau people. This manuscript chronicles the history of the Minangkabau Rajodom, which was composed initially by hand before its publication. To save the text against deterioration and natural calamities, such as fire and flood, preservation efforts, including digitalization, are essential. Digitalization converts media from printed, audio, or video formats to establish digital document repositories. Digitalization necessitates computers, scanners, operators, media, sources, and software. This study seeks to elucidate the procedure of translating the SASP manuscript from Arabic-Malay script to Latin script utilizing the Philology approach and delineate the process of web-based digitalization of the SASP manuscript. Two research methodologies exist: the Philological research method and the digitalization approach. The philological approach encompasses the processes of transliteration or transcription. The digitization of old SASP texts involves the building of software architecture applications. The digitization of this information system employs the PhoneGap operating system. From the data analysis, the subsequent conclusions can be derived. Initially, according to Philological research, namely the translation of the SASP manuscript, there are terms inscribed in Arabic alongside the utilization of Malay, Minangkabau, and antique vocabulary. The text serves a societal purpose as a source of information regarding the genealogy of the Pagaruyung Rajodom's history. Secondly, drawing from digitalization research utilizing the PhoneGap operating system, it can be elucidated that this design constitutes a digital web application for ancient SASP manuscripts, facilitating access to comprehensive information regarding these manuscripts. The test findings indicate that this application can deliver information according to user requirements, including manuscript details in Arabic Malay script and translation. The translation and digitization of this document will serve as a resource for digital literacy for students and the communit

ESL STUDENTS' INTERPRETATIONS OF PUN IN ENGLISH JOKES

    No full text
This research is expected to broaden students' perspectives through humor, specifically "puns" or "one-liners." The interpretation of ESL students towards English jokes will be analyzed to understand their comprehension of "wordplay." The objectives of the study are to determine how ESL students interpret puns and to identify the difficulties arising from misinterpretations of puns. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach. Questionnaires and interviews are used to help understand linguistic difficulties and cultural knowledge, exploring students' cultural understanding by exposing them to the use of wordplay in English. The novelty of this research lies in analyzing puns from the perspective of ESL students in North Sumatra, comprising Batak and Nias ethnic students. The findings indicate that students' interpretations of puns show that most can understand the humor if their vocabulary is strong. They can interpret homonyms effectively. Cultural knowledge plays a crucial role; the broader their experiences in the outside world, the better they can appreciate pun humor. Good metacognitive skills also aid students in interpreting pun humor, evident in how they attempt to understand wordplay. Some students can "understand" the jokes due to their familiarity with the words through prior experiences. The researcher hopes that students' vocabulary can be enhanced so they grasp double meanings in humor better. Students are encouraged to expand their cultural knowledge and metacognitive skills by exposing themselves more to foreign cultures through reading, listening to news, social media, or new experiences
