“Creation” as the Foundation for Acceptance of Others in the Second Temple Judaism

    Get PDF
Underlying the depictions which contrast human beings and nature in Hebrew Scripture and Second Temple Jewish literature, we can see a viewpoint similar to that of seeking nature (φυʹσις) through perceptible phenomena. The concept of the “Fear of God” in the wisdom tradition and the concept of “moral impurity” in ancient Israel are principles which have a universal perspective targeting gentiles also. Here we see a similarity with the viewpoint which connects universal order with social-moral order. In ancient Israel, however, this idea of universality is the principle that connects God’s sovereignty with the order underlying all creation under the concept of “the only God” and “the Creator God.” Following this conception Second Temple Jewish literature developed the idea that the ordering of creation (i. e. creatures) by God is according to God’s law. And this idea, it could be argued, later became the foundation for acceptance of gentiles in early Christianity as it diverged from the second temple Judaism.departmental bulletin pape

The Initial Reception of the Montessori Method in the United States in the 1910’s: The Birth and Influence of The Montessori Method

Since its establishment, arguments in favor of and against the Montessori Method have been proposed. The initial Montessori Movement was founded in the United States in the 1910s. Americans debated Montessori’s doctrine of ‘ liberty’ and ‘discipline’. Despite the Americans’ initial enthusiasm, they lost interest in the Montessori Method in approximately 1915. One may ask what gave rise and decline to the Montessori Method. The answers may be found in The Montessori Method, which was published in 1912. We can see certain changes in the English edition, such as the addition of two chapters. One may question why Montessori changed the text and what influence it had on subsequent research on the Montessori Method. In this paper, we examine the reception of Montessori Method in the United States in the 1910’s focusing on the birth and influence of The Montessori Method.departmental bulletin pape

Investigation of Stroop tasks that can be used in early childhood ―Devising the Anpanman Upper and Lower Stroop Task―

    Get PDF
Various versions of Stroop tasks, such as the Day/Night task(Gerstadt, Hong, & Diamond, 1994), have been used in young children to examine the development of inhibitory control. However, such tasks are not paradigms that produce Stroop interference, but rather reversal learning paradigms. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a true, early childhood version of the Stroop task: an upper and lower Stroop task using the stimulus of Anpanman, a well-known, beloved anime character for young children. The task consists of a picture of Anpanman with the upper or lower part of his face missing, presented on either the upper or lower part of the screen or paper. The children are asked to judge which part of the face (upper or lower) is missing, regardless of the position on the screen or paper. The use of this task would enable the measurement of the suppression of Stroop interference starting in children aged even younger than 5 – 6 years.departmental bulletin pape

The most common open-ended questions in the survey of student life in FY2021, the second year of the Corona Disaster, was "mix of online and face-to-face classes," accounting for 15.9% of the total, followed by "about college life" (14.5%) and "negative evaliation of myself" (13.8%). Compared to the FY2020 results, "mix of online and face-to-face classes" and "about college life" were categories that did not exist in FY2020, indicating that the increase in face-to-face classes has had a significant impact. Negative evaluation of online classes" decreased to 1/5 of the FY2020 level (from 31.3% to 6.7%), while "positive evaluation of self (4.3% to 7.9%)" and "job hunting, studying abroad, graduation thesis, etc. (3.5% to 6.3%)" almost doubled. On the other hand, "negative evaluation of myself (17.6% to 13.8%)," "positive evaluation of online classes (15.9% to 11.3%)," " opinions toward the university (11.6% to 7.1%)," and "financial matters (6.2% to 3.3%)" decreased, while "communication (8.7% to (8.7%→11.3%)" and "Home and family (0.8%→1.7%)" increased slightly.departmental bulletin pape

Fieldwork in India and Education Practice

How should the relationship between fieldwork courses and other courses such as lecture, seminar, and graduation thesis courses be coordinated in the curricula of undergraduate programs ? It depends on the academic policies of universities and departments. This paper reviews the author’s education practices in fieldwork in India and the relationship between fieldwork and junior/senior seminar. In the last 10 years, this relationship has changed from the understanding of modern India to comparative perspectives of India and other countries, which provide the students with greater opportunities to choose seminars of various disciplines (social welfare, etc.) as well as international relations seminars. The students who participated in fieldwork in India preferred writing their graduation theses on the case study of countries other than India. This tendency should be analyzed not as a decrease of the educational effect of fieldwork but as an increase of the comparative understanding of India and other countries. It can be said that the educational roles and orientations of international fieldwork in university curricula are plural. The educational emphasis of fieldwork courses can be on understanding specific areas as well as creating a comparative perspective of certain topics.departmental bulletin pape
