Communication experience and preferences of older adults interacting with healthcare professionals
Effective communication is a cornerstone of patient-centered healthcare. Unfortunately, unclear communication by healthcare professionals may lead to patient safety incidents, treatment errors, and poor health outcomes1. Patients over 75 years report less-positive experiences regarding communication by doctors and nurses in hospitals compared to younger patients2. These findings exemplify the unique experience of older adults in healthcare settings necessitating age-specific communication strategies and healthcare protocols. The current study explored older adults’ experiences and communication preferences during doctor’s appointments.Health Informatics and Information Managemen
Forage utilization and microbial community responses to pine biochar as a feed additive for beef steers
Ruminant livestock contribute ~14.5% to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. While the atmospheric lifespan of methane is shorter than of carbon dioxide, it is much more potent, with a 28× greater global warming potential.
Due to their reliance on extensive foregut fermentation for diet utilization, enteric methane production is inherent in ruminant animals. However, methanogenesis can be reduced through dietary manipulation. Significant work has been conducted on methane mitigation strategies for domestic cattle production, but each are limited by practical constraints. Therefore, there remains an opportunity to identify feed additives that enhance the sustainability of beef production through reductions in methanogenesis.
Biochar, a carbon-rich material traditionally used as a soil amendment, offers a potential dual benefit when utilized as a feed additive: mitigating methane production by modulating rumen microbial communities and restoring pasture ecosystems through amended manure.
However, comprehensive in vivo studies utilizing multi-omics approaches are urgently needed to fully understand the potential for biochar as a sustainable feed additive for cattle, including the ideal supplementation rate.Translational Health Research CenterAgricultural Science

Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Diabetes Distress in Insulin-Dependent Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review [poster]
Diabetes distress is a significant emotional burden for adults who rely on insulin therapy to manage type 2 diabetes, affecting treatment adherence, self-care behaviors, and clinical outcomes. Continuous glucose monitoring has been widely recognized for improving clinical measures such as hemoglobin A1c, yet less is known about its impact on emotional well-being in this population. This systematic review examined whether continuous glucose monitoring reduces diabetes distress compared to traditional finger-stick self-monitoring. A comprehensive search of three electronic databases identified relevant studies published from 2020 to 2025. After applying eligibility criteria and quality appraisal tools, seven primary research studies were included. Study designs consisted of randomized controlled trial, quasi-experimental, qualitative, and cross-sectional methods. Data were extracted using a standardized evidence table and synthesized to identify common themes and outcomes. The findings consistently demonstrated that continuous glucose monitoring use was associated with reduced diabetes distress, increased confidence in self-management, improved quality of life, and enhanced patient engagement. Participants reported feeling more informed, supported, and capable of managing their glucose levels with real-time feedback. These positive emotional and behavioral outcomes extended beyond glucose control, highlighting the value of continuous glucose monitoring as both a clinical and psychosocial intervention. The results support the integration of continuous glucose monitoring into routine diabetes care for adults who use insulin. Further research with larger and more diverse samples is recommended to strengthen understanding of its long-term emotional effects and guide implementation in real-world practice settings.Nursin
Therapeutic Goals of One-on-One Viniyoga: A Qualitative Study of Practitioner Perspectives and Case Applications
Background/Objectives: Viniyoga is a person-centered approach to yoga that emphasizes individualized adaptation of breath, movement, and meditative practices to support health and well-being. This qualitative study investigates the therapeutic goals of one-to-one Viniyoga from the perspective of experienced therapists. Methods: Fourteen certified Viniyoga practitioners participated in in-depth interviews, which were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). This study details how Viniyoga therapists define therapeutic Viniyoga. Results: The findings identify three core therapeutic goals that guide Viniyoga therapy: restoring balance, cultivating self-regulation, and guiding transformation. Two case studies are presented to illustrate the application of these goals in clinical contexts. Conclusions: Qualitative information provided by the interviewed Viniyoga therapists supports the positive role of individualized Viniyoga therapy in contributing to sustainable healing and supporting clients’ return to balance, self-regulation, and personal transformation. The Viniyoga therapeutic model is applicable across diverse populations and in a variety of integrative and complementary healthcare settings.Social Wor
