    Generating Stealth Agents in Educational Leadership through Imagination

    This dissertation explores imagination as an apparatus for social change within educational leadership, conceptualized through the lens of dissensus and speculative inquiry. In response to growing systemic uncertainty and complexity, it argues for imagination as a pivotal mechanism through which educational leaders might disrupt entrenched inequities and redistribute possibilities for human flourishing. Employing a post-intentional phenomenological framework, this study examines how imagination emerges, fragments, and reconfigures during speculative future scenarios deliberately designed to unsettle traditional leadership paradigms. Participant narratives reveal imagination as inherently disruptive, capable of breaking apart dominant epistemologies and enabling leaders to reimagine more just and sustainable futures. The findings illustrate that imaginative leadership emerges from acts of dissensus, characterized by vulnerability, movement, and tension. Ultimately, this research contributes to educational leadership theory by positioning imagination as a socially embedded, epistemic apparatus essential for transformative leadership.     Doing Different: Biopower and the Regulation of Human Difference

    Human differences can be measured in countless different ways. From sex to gender expression, height, weight, political views, personal taste, skin color, religious beliefs, the list of potential differences is endless. But when people in the United States talk about diversity, they usually refer to a small subset of these differences. Race, sex, and sexual orientation tend to be the most common elements of human identity that are addressed when discussing diversity. But this changes from one context to another. This dissertation is an exploration of how people think about and regulate human difference in various contexts. By looking at examples of how diversity is handled in the U.S. Marines Corps, the business world, and higher education, this research shows how diversity discourses in the United States are often discussions of power and who gets to make rules for who. While power and rulemaking can be repressive in some cases, this work also shows how that power may be used for the benefit of those subject to it.Anthropolog

    Assessing Gender Bias and Ethical Reasoning in Large Language Models

    As large language models (LLMs) are increasingly embedding in high-stakes decision-making environments, concerns about bias, ethical alignment, and transparency have grown critical. Current evaluation techniques often fall short in capturing implicit biases and explaining the ethical reasoning behind model decision. Furthermore, most prior research relies heavily on output classification or static benchmarks, failing to address the subtleties of how LLMs justify their responses or reinforce social stereotypes in sensitive contexts. This work addresses the aforementioned limitations through a two-pronged investigation. 1) It examines implicit gender bias in STEM-related prompts across multiple LLMs, revealing how stereotypes persist in model-generated responses through both qualitative analysis and word cloud visualizations. 2) It evaluates the consistency and explainability of ethical reasoning using a curated subset of the ETHICS dataset. For this we integrate several prompting styles to evaluate the explanations produced by the LLM on semantic analysis techniques.     Disabled Students in Higher Education: Self-Disclosure, Accommodations, and Degree Persistence

    This quantitative study explores the predictive relationship between student demographics and three key outcomes for disabled students in postsecondary education: self-disclosure of disability status, receipt of academic accommodations, and persistence towards graduation. Using logistic regression analyses on data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09), the study examines how variables such as gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability type, and institutional setting impact students’ likelihood of disclosing a disability, accessing accommodations, and persisting through higher education. Results reveal that students at four-year institutions, those with learning disabilities or "other" disabilities, and female students were more likely to disclose and use accommodations. Persistence was positively predicted by accommodation use, four-year enrollment, and gender, while students from low socioeconomic backgrounds and Black/African American students were less likely to persist. Guided by Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory and Oliver’s Social Model of Disability, this research highlights the systemic and social factors shaping disabled students' educational trajectories and offers implications for policy, institutional practice, and future research to promote equity in higher education.Curriculum and Instructio

    Storing, organizing, and sharing: Building metadata infrastructure for open educational materials

    Texas State University libraries has continued to create and support the development of open educational materials for use within their community. These learning objects, however, are not easily discoverable or stored in a centralized location. This makes content sharing and measuring impact difficult. The institutional repository at Texas State utilizes DSpace and is hosted by TDL. Using the already established institutional repository, we created a new community of collections to store, organize, and make open materials discoverable. This open education collection would be built from scratch in many aspects, as DSpace’s flexibility allows for individual collections to operate differently as suits their needs. However, this flexibility can easily allow for a lack of structure, consistency, and quality in metadata across a collection. Guidelines and standardization are primarily dependent on external people to implement, rather than technological boundaries. To ensure quality metadata, I led the research, creation, and implementation of extensive standards and guidelines, created intentional collections to organize current and future items, and established infrastructure within the open education repository. This presentation highlights the necessity for external guidelines in digital repositories and explores the benefits of additional metadata fields for learning object repositories.University Librarie

    Implementation of Logic Circuits Using a Hybrid Model with Low-Power Techniques

    This research focuses on the implementation of logic circuits through the incorporation of low-power techniques. With the increasing demand for energy-efficient electronic systems, the study explores innovative approaches to optimize power consumption in digital circuits. The hybrid model combines various low-power techniques, including SAPON (Stackly Arranged low-Power ON transistor) and power gating techniques, to achieve an effective balance between performance and power efficiency. The research involves the detailed analysis and simulation of different logic circuits using this hybrid model, evaluating their energy consumption and overall performance. The results indicate the potential for significant power savings without compromising the functionality of the logic circuit, demonstrating the viability of the proposed hybrid approach for low-power digital circuit design. This work contributes to the advancement of the field of energy-efficient electronics, offering valuable insights into future developments in low-power design methodologies. To verify this method, the layout was created with the Microwind tool utilizing a hybrid power reduction strategy to validate this approach. The extracted netlist was then simulated in LTSpice to obtain the results. According to the simulation results, the proposed method reduced power consumption compared to the conventional method.
