Initial perspectives of meal delivery drivers and operators on beta 1 prototype of nutrition for underserved elders via application (NUEVA)
The Senior Nutrition Program (SNP) purposes to increase nutrient intake in older adults who may be food insecure.1 The SNP provides the congregate and home delivered meals. To expand the reach of the home delivered meals, SNP innovations are needed. Technology based solutions may facilitate an increase of access to resources from SNPs. The NUEVA team has engaged in a partnership with Meals on Wheels Central Texas to develop a multiplatform application for meal delivery. Parental stress and resilience in Korean American families' online learning
This study explores the experiences of Korean American parents in supporting their children’s online education at home. Data were collected through an online survey of 341 Korean immigrant parents from 42 U.S. states during the transition to remote learning. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis examined the relationships between parental difficulties, parental stress, and resilience. A qualitative analysis of responses from 18 parents of children with diagnosed needs (disabilities, giftedness, or limited English proficiency) provided additional insights. Results show that greater difficulty in supporting online education correlated with higher parental stress, while resilience significantly reduced stress levels. Parents of children with diagnosed needs faced additional challenges, including limited resources, family conflicts, and developmental concerns. Findings highlight the importance of supporting parents in navigating online education and strengthening resilience. Implications for practice and future research will be discussed
Enhancing Sustainability in Bridge Decks: A Comparative Study Between Ultra High Performance Concrete and Performance-Based Concrete Overlays
This study evaluates the sustainability in bridge decks overlays through a comparative study between Ultra High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) with performance-based concrete. The main aim of this research is to develop mixture designs for both UHPC and performance-based concrete overlays with an emphasis on lowering the cement content and using supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) to improve the environmental impact of the material, while maintaining performance. Performance of the developed overlays were tested for mechanical strength and durability. The results revealed that the incorporation of supplementary cementitious material (SCMs) such as silica fume and Fly Ash along with substituting ordinary portland cement (OPC) with Type IL cement, significantly reduced the environmental impacts for both UHPC and performance-based concrete, without compromising the mechanical performance. Experimental results show that UHPC exhibited a highest compressive strength of 139 MPa and a lowest chloride migration coefficient of 0.4 X 10-13 m²/s, with 97% mass retention after 500 freeze-thaw cycles. Performance-based concrete demonstrated a compressive strength of 53 MPa and a chloride migration coefficient of 0.978 X 10-10 m²/s. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was conducted to evaluate the environmental impact of both concrete types across their production, construction, use and end-of-life phases. LCA results revealed that UHPC had higher Global Warming Potential (GWP) emissions in the production phase, but its longer service life and reduced maintenance made it more sustainable over a 50-year period compared to performance-based concrete, which, despite its lower initial GWP emissions, incurred higher emissions due to more frequent repairs. The results of this investigation show that UHPC and performance-based concrete overlays have a great potential for increasing durability and lowering environmental impact when compared to conventional concrete overlays.Materials Science, Engineering, and Commercializatio

A descriptive correlational study on pain, physical performance, and cortical excitability in patients with knee osteoarthritis
Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent joint disease worldwide, affecting nearly one-third of individuals over the age of 45. The most debilitating symptom of KOA is pain, which can disrupt physical abilities.
Movement-related pain restricts daily physical activity, contributing to metabolic and cardiovascular risks. Prolonged pain can also alter how the body processes pain, affecting pain sensitivity, perception, thoughts, and emotions.
The primary motor cortex, an important brain region, once thought to be solely responsible for muscle contraction and movement, is now recognized for its role in pain modulation. Emerging evidence suggests cortical excitability is involved in knee pain modulation in KOA. Moreover, studies suggest that altered excitability, compared to that in healthy limbs or healthy individuals, is associated with knee joint pain.
However, existing studies have limitations, including a heavy reliance on pain assessment at rest, a lack of functional movement assessments, and a focus on cortical excitability related to hand muscles rather than the quadriceps, which are essential for knee function.

How We Like to LearnIT: A Quantitative Study on the Preferred Technological Characteristics Adults Use in Self-Directed Learning for the Workplace
The US spent ~98 billion dollars in 2024 on corporate/ workplace training (Freifeld, 2024). Technology was a big part of spending with companies looking to use, develop and employ new tools. Technology touches every part of our lives, and with the advances multiplying each day, each minute, each second, it is a struggle to keep up with any training tools and methods. Companies look to the learning and development team to come up with innovative ways to keep current and new employees up to date with information. A result of this is the vast amount of technology-assisted learning techniques and tools. Workplace learning professionals often seek out new technologies to help aid their learners grasp new ideas and concepts in the quickest most efficient ways to keep up with the high demand of an ever-changing technology-based society. Generally, the learners are not asked their preferred ways to consume new information and are forced to adopt whichever platform or delivery method that the learning and development professionals deem appropriate.
This study asked employees their preferred method of learning for various objectives based on Bloom’s taxonomy. Specifically, participants were asked to identify the frequency of technological platforms used and the preferred characteristics of those technologies during self-directed (SDL) in the workplace. A survey was sent to employees in an IT support center for a large retail organization.
This study addressed the following research questions:
1. How has technology influenced the way people prefer to engage in self-directed learning in the workplace?
a. What are the most frequently used technological platforms for self-directed learning?
b. What are the preferred technological characteristics for cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning?
The study revealed significant patterns in how different demographic groups engage with technological platforms for SDL. Younger participants, particularly those aged 18-39, favored platforms like YouTube and Google, valuing these tools for their speed and accuracy in facilitating cognitive learning. In contrast, older participants, aged 40 and above, showed a preference for collaborative platforms like Teams and Yammer, which support psychomotor learning through interactive engagement and teamwork. Affective learning, focusing on emotional and interpersonal development, was predominantly driven by the credibility of content, with LinkedIn Learning being favored by individuals in leadership roles. Additionally, the study found that participants with higher education levels and those in senior positions were more likely to use structured professional platforms, while those with lower education levels or entry-level roles leaned toward more accessible, informal tools. These results underscore the need for organizations to adopt tailored learning strategies to accommodate the varying technological preferences based on age, education, and organizational role.Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education, and School Psycholog
We Think We Know You: An Analysis of the Psychosocial Elements of Parasocial Relationships
Celebrity culture is specifically designed to capture the attention of onlookers and capitalize on the infatuation of fans by crafting the most attractive and relatable persona possible for each public figure. In turn, fans will often get extremely invested in the lives of their favorite musicians, actors, athletes, and even political figures, so much so that they perceive them as more than just strangers on their television or cell phone screens. Parasocial relationships, or imagined connections with individuals a person does not know in real life, have become more widely discussed in many social media spaces in recent years. This study aimed to uncover some of the possible factors contributing to the development of these nonreciprocal relationships, with a specific focus on personality and mental health. An online survey of college students (N=335; 80.3% Female, 37.6% White) was administered to assess Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, self-esteem, empathy, social support, and the Big 5 personality traits. Furthermore, the survey was analyzed to investigate possible correlations between these factors and parasocial interaction. We found weak positive correlations between GAD and parasocial interaction, MDD and parasocial interaction, empathy and parasocial interaction, and self-esteem and parasocial interaction. Additionally, a weak negative correlation was discovered between self-esteem and parasocial interaction. Regarding personality traits, openness and neuroticism were found to have a weak positive correlation with parasocial interaction. This study's results support previous data suggesting that mental health disorders and self-esteem contribute to the development of parasocial relationships while introducing new data to suggest that some personality factors influence parasocial interaction levels.Psycholog
Group-Individual Probability Confusion: Implications for Suspect Prioritization in Criminal Investigations
Purpose: Suspect prioritization is a critical function in criminal investigations suffering from information overload. As this effort involves probability ranking, it is important to avoid confusing group and individual selection probabilities, an ecological fallacy related to Kahneman and Tversky's hit-and-run taxicab color exercise.
Design: We studied this tendency using an experimental survey administered to 1017 university students. The survey involved both individual- and group-level probability questions, presented in randomized order. Participants completed the Subjective Numeracy Scale to assess whether accuracy correlated with SNS self-assessment.
Findings: Subjects averaged 39 % correct responses across scenarios on the individual-level probability question, only half their accuracy on the group-level probability questions (74 %). Interestingly, subjects who did not select the correct response to individual-level questions almost always chose the corresponding group-level answer.
Practical implications: Probability confusion can distort suspect prioritization, an important task in criminal investigations involving information overload. It may also contribute to algorithmic discrimination in the criminal justice system. Our analysis suggests why some people answer incorrectly to the Kahneman and Tversky taxicab exercise.
Originality: This is a novel study. While previous research has explored ecological fallacies, cognitive biases, and common probability errors, this is the first analysis to directly examine group-individual probability confusion
