    Deep learning is an approach that encourages students to think critically, creatively, and reflectively about complex learning concepts. However, its implementation often faces challenges in planning, implementation, and evaluation. This study aims to identify the difficulties experienced by high school biology teachers in Muaro Jambi Regency in implementing deep learning. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach involving 20 biology teachers from various high schools in Muaro Jambi Regency. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis of learning materials. The results revealed several key difficulties for teachers: teachers did not fully understand the concept of deep learning, teachers still struggled to design activities that aligned with the principles of deep learning (meaningful, conscious, and enjoyable), and teachers still struggled to assess students' higher-order thinking skills, which is the main goal of implementing the deep learning approach. Furthermore, external factors such as limited laboratory facilities and teacher competence in guiding practicums, as well as learning time, also posed challenges. The findings of this study indicate the need for mentoring programs for teachers to strengthen their competence in implementing deep learning

    Bullying in multicultural elementary schools in Jambi Province has shown an alarming increase, posing serious threats to children’s psychosocial development. This study aims to (1) explore the experiences of teachers, counselors, and students in addressing bullying at the elementary school level; (2) identify intercultural values relevant to counseling practices; and (3) construct a conceptual framework for an intercultural counseling module rooted in Jambi’s local wisdom. A qualitative approach with grounded theory was employed, involving the stages of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and focus group discussions and validated through source triangulation, expert review, and limited dissemination. The findings indicate that bullying is influenced by three main factors: (1) individual factors, such as low self-control and lack of empathy; (2) socio-cultural factors, including the dominance of seniority norms, cultural acceptance of violence, and peer pressure; and (3) school environment factors, including limited teacher supervision and the absence of systematic anti-bullying policies. The grounded theory produced a conceptual construction of an intercultural counseling module that integrates cross-cultural empathy, local wisdom, and both preventive and curative counseling strategies tailored to multicultural. The novelty of this study lies in the development of an intercultural counseling module based on Jambi’s local culture, designed to be both theoretical and practical. The implications provide conceptual and practical contributions to the field of guidance and counseling, particularly intercultural counseling, and offer a culturally grounded intervention instrument to enhance the effectiveness of bullying prevention in multicultural elementary schools

    Jambi Province is one of the regions in Indonesia which is rich in local upland rice germplasm. The diversity among local cultivars reflects their adaptation to specific agroecosystems, such as marginal land conditions and low-input environments. However, this genetic resource is currently facing erosion due to modernization, the widespread adoption of newly released high-yielding varieties, and the conversion of agricultural land into plantations. Local upland rice germplasm serves as an important genetic resources for the development of improved cultivars capable of addressing future challenges in upland rice cultivation. The success of breeding programs for upland rice depends on the availability of genetic diversity, as broad genetic variation enhances the efficiency of selection and facilitates substantial genetic gains. Morphological markers are among the tools commonly used to assess genetic diversity. This study aimed to evaluate the morphological diversity of local upland rice germplasm from Jambi based on vegetative phase characteristics. A field experiment was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, from June to September 2025. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two replications, using 30 local upland rice accessions as treatments. Observations were carried out on both qualitative and quantitative morphological traits during the vegetative phase, including plant habit, culm color, ligule shape, leaf color, leaf sheath color, collar color, auricle color, plant height, and number of tillers. The results revealed considerable morphological variation among the accessions, indicating the presence of genetic diversity within the local upland rice germplasm of Jambi

    Local cultural preservation is a crucial aspect of maintaining the identity and wisdom of a region amid the forces of globalization. This article examines the role of integrating local cultural preservation into sustainable urban planning as a strategic foundation for enhancing global competitiveness. The study employs a qualitative approach through literature review and case analysis of several cities that have successfully incorporated cultural preservation into regional and urban planning policies. The findings reveal that local cultural preservation not only strengthens community identity and social cohesion but also serves as a vital asset in developing cultural tourism, creative economies, and culture-based innovation that support global competitiveness. The novelty of this research lies in emphasizing the integration of local culture as a strategic element within sustainable urban planning, an area that has been underexplored in urban and regional planning literature. The implications of this study recommend planners and policymakers adopt a holistic approach that combines cultural preservation with social, economic, and environmental aspects in urban development, thereby creating cities that are both highly competitive and culturally and ecologically sustainable. This research contributes to the advancement of urban and regional planning knowledge by highlighting the importance of local culture as a strategic foundation in addressing globalization challenges

    Analysis of quercetin content as an anti-inflammatory agent in Akasia leaf extract (Acacia auriculiformis) using the HPLC method

    Background: Inflammation is a natural defense response, characterized by five classic symptoms, namely swelling, heat, redness, pain, and impaired organ function. However, uncontrolled inflammation can trigger various chronic diseases, so effective and safe anti-inflammatory agents are needed. One natural compound that has this potential is quercetin, a flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities through inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes, as well as modulation of the NF-κB transcription factor. Acacia auriculiformis leaves are known to contain quercetin and other bioactive compounds, so they have the potential to be developed as a source of natural anti-inflammatory agents. Objective: This study aims to analyze the quercetin content in ethanol extract of Acacia leaves using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Methods: Extraction was performed by maceration using 96% ethanol. Acacia leaf simplicia weighing 300 grams was successfully extracted and produced a thick extract of 30 ml with a characteristic dark green-brown color. Then, it was analyzed using HPLC based on validation parameters of LOD (0.1172 mg/L) and LOQ (0.3906 mg/L). Results: The quercetin content was found to be below the detection limit (<0.1172 mg/L), making quantitative determination unfeasible. Conclusion: The results suggest that quercetin is present in very low concentrations or possibly in a conjugated form. Further phytochemical and GC-MS analyses are required to confirm the presence and activity of other flavonoids contributing to the anti-inflammatory potential of Acacia leaf extract

    Qualitative identification of alkaloid compounds in Moringa oleifera leaf extract

    Background: Moringa oleifera (moringa leaves) is a biological resource with significant pharmacological potential. Empirically and scientifically, this plant extract has been proven effective as a hematinic (antianemic) agent due to its essential mineral and vitamin content. In addition, moringa is rich in secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, which have strong antioxidant activity. This antioxidant activity is crucial because it has the potential to protect erythrocyte membranes from damage due to oxidative stress, thus supporting synergistic antianemic efficacy. Objective: This study sought to qualitatively validate the existence of alkaloid compounds as bioactive constituents in a 96% ethanol extract of moringa leaves. Methods: Dried moringa leaf powder was extracted using maceration with 96% ethanol solvent for 72 hours. The concentrated extract was tested qualitatively using a precipitation test with specific reagents: Mayer, Dragendorff, Bouchardat, and Wagner. Results: The phytochemical screening results showed a strong positive response to the third test reagent, which proved that alkaloid compounds were present. The reaction is indicated by the formation of a white precipitate (Mayer), an intense orange-red precipitate (Dragendorff), and a Reddish-Brown Precipitate (Bouchardat). Conclusion: The 96% ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera leaves was proven to contain alkaloid compounds. These qualitative findings confirm the role of alkaloids as supporting phytochemicals, supporting the potential of Moringa leaves as a natural source of ingredients for antianemia therapy

    Global research trends on Areca catechu L. (Areca nut): A bibliometric analysis from 1970 to 2025

    Background: Areca catechu L. (A. catechu), known as areca or betel nut palm, is a tropical tree widely cultivated across South and Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of East Africa. Over the past five decades, A. catechu has garnered substantial scientific attention. Previous bibliometric studies have primarily focused on areca nut as a risk factor in relation to oral health conditions. Methods: A bibliometric analysis of 2,869 publications from 1970 to 2025 was conducted using the Bibliometrix R package (biblioshiny 5.0) to evaluate research trends and collaboration networks. Results: The average yearly growth rate of publications was 7.24%, with India leading the way in terms of publications. The most active author, affiliation, and source are Yang SF, Kaohsiung Medical University, Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, respectively. The main topic in the medical field was oral lesions and the risk factors associated with betel nut chewing, including arecoline and oral fibrosis. Emerging topics included antibacterial, antioxidant, and composite material engineering, as well as adsorbents and natural fibers, which are also gaining attention in non-medical fields. Conclusion: Countries with the highest A. catechu plantation production are the most prolific in journal publications. The utilization of areca nut plantation products can be directed towards research into their potential as a natural fiber, hybrid composite, and their polyphenolic compounds as antibacterial and antioxidant agents

    Enhancing critical thinking in primary education: A literature review on effective learning media

    The enhancement of students’ critical thinking skills has become an essential priority across all educational levels, particularly in primary schools. This study analyzes the use of learning media to improve critical thinking skills among primary school students. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology was employed to address the research questions systematically. A total of 18 articles from various countries, including Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Jordan, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan, were reviewed. Indonesia contributed the highest number of studies, with nine articles, followed by Taiwan with two articles. The learning media identified in these studies were classified into four main categories: (1) multimedia and interactive visual media, (2) interactive digital applications and platforms, (3) flipped learning and hybrid learning, and (4) game-based and gamified applications. The findings indicate that multimedia and interactive visual media are the most frequently used and effective in enhancing critical thinking skills, as they support visualization, interactivity, and problem-solving. Interactive digital applications, flipped learning, and digital games were also found to improve critical thinking through independent learning, hypothesis formulation, analysis, and gamification mechanisms. These results underscore the importance of selecting appropriate learning media to support the development of critical thinking skills among primary school students in the era of digital learning technologies

    Teacher's TPACK toward student's reading ability

    This study aims to examine the influence of teachers' Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) on students' reading ability. TPACK is a knowledge framework that integrates technology, pedagogy, and subject matter content that is considered capable of improving the quality of learning, including in the development of students' reading ability. This study employs a library research design to explore the influence of teachers’ Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) on students’ reading ability by reviewing and synthesizing findings from previous studies. The literature review reveals that teachers with strong TPACK can effectively integrate technology into reading instruction, resulting in improved comprehension, vocabulary development, and engagement. Several empirical studies indicate that the integration of digital tools through pedagogical strategies enhances students’ critical reading and motivation. Therefore, this paper concludes that strengthening teachers’ TPACK through continuous professional development is essential for promoting students’ reading ability in technologically rich learning environments. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of TPACK training for teachers to strengthen the quality of reading learning in the digital era

    Universal design for learning strategies to enhance participation in inclusive primary classrooms

    Inclusive education in primary schools demands instructional approaches that accommodate the diversity of learners while ensuring equitable participation. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has emerged as a promising pedagogical framework to support this goal through its three core principles: multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression. This paper presents a systematic literature review of thirty open-access publications addressing the implementation of UDL in inclusive primary school classrooms. The review synthesizes evidence from empirical studies, theoretical works, and systematic reviews to identify effective strategies, challenges, and implications for practice. Findings indicate that UDL-based strategies foster improved academic engagement, intrinsic motivation, and social interaction among students with and without disabilities. Nevertheless, implementation is constrained by limited teacher training, inadequate technological resources, and time pressures in classroom settings. The study highlights the need for sustained professional development, curriculum adjustments, and policy support to enable successful integration of UDL into inclusive primary education. Practical recommendations are proposed to guide teachers in lesson design, formative assessment, and classroom management. The review emphasizes the potential of UDL as a transformative framework to optimize student participation and strengthen inclusive practices in diverse learning environments
