Determinan perilaku merokok elektrik pada siswa di Kota Jambi, studi kualitatif
Vaping behavior has become a new habit among teenagers today. Teenagers, specifically high school students or the equivalent, have become the target of electronic cigarette manufacturers. Aggressive promotions on digital media make this silent promotion highly influential on teenagers. This research aims to identify the factors influencing vaping behavior among adolescents. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Informants consisted of 20 students and 10 teachers from a Madrasah Aliyah (Islamic senior high school) in Jambi City. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and observation. Informants were selected using the purposive sampling method, and interviews were conducted within the school environment. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman technique. Most schools already have a smoke-free area policy. Efforts are made through raids on students for the use of both conventional and electronic cigarettes. Peers play a significant role in the vaping behavior of school children. The lack of school action regarding violations against e-cigarettes allows some students to vape on school grounds. Education about e-cigarettes is still severely lacking, both from the school and other stakeholders. Warnings about smoking are only in the form of advisories and do not carry strict sanctions. The fact that some teachers smoke is also a factor in students smoking at school. Factors causing students to vape include peer pressure, the lack of severe sanctions when caught smoking at school, the presence of teacher role models who smoke, and the variety of flavors offered by e-cigarettes.
Penerapan media simulasi dinamika atmosfer pada pokok bahasan pemanasan global di kelas 10 SMA Negeri 10 Kota Jambi
Global warming is a complex global environmental issue that requires a deep understanding; however, concepts related to atmospheric dynamics are often considered abstract and difficult for students to grasp. This study aims to: (1) evaluate the potential and feasibility of several online and offline simulation media on atmospheric dynamics, (2) implement them as learning media in classroom instruction, and (3) measure their impact on improving students’ interest and conceptual understanding among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 10 Kota Jambi. The study employed a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest–posttest control group design. The sample consisted of two purposively selected classes: one as the experimental group (using simulation media) and the other as the control group (using conventional learning methods). Research instruments included a conceptual understanding test (pretest and posttest), a student response questionnaire, and an observation sheet on learning engagement. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and independent sample t-tests to determine differences in learning outcomes between groups. The evaluation of the simulation media used (Earth Nullschool, Windy, and PhET Greenhouse Effect) indicated that all three were feasible based on content, interactivity, and pedagogical relevance. The use of simulation media significantly enhanced students’ interest and understanding of global warming concepts compared to conventional methods. Students also responded positively to simulation-based learning due to its more visual and interactive presentation. The findings of this study are expected to provide practical contributions for physics teachers in designing more effective and contextual learning experiences through simulation-based media

High cigarette consumption rates not only impact public health but are also a factor that exacerbates poverty in Indonesia. It is concerning that in Indonesia, the highest cigarette consumption comes from poor household heads (82%). On the other hand, poor/underprivileged families receive health subsidies from the JKN-PBI program every month. High cigarette consumption also occurs in Jambi City (19.74%), resulting in a decrease in household expenditure allocation for nutritious consumption, especially for low-income families. This study aims to identify the impact of health subsidies on the consumption patterns of PBI households in Jambi City by analyzing the differences in average cigarette consumption, food consumption, and non-food consumption of households receiving premium assistance before and after receiving JKN-PBI subsidies. Quantitative research based on economic evaluation involved 120 respondents selected using systematic sampling techniques in three Community Health Center (Puskesmas) work areas in Jambi City. The results showed that there were differences in the average costs of food consumption, health costs, and cigarette costs between before and after respondents became JKN-PBI participants. It was concluded that cigarette consumption has an impact on the consumption patterns of PBI participant households. It is recommended that the government and BPJS Kesehatan consider a policy of providing health subsidies to JKN participants who smoke
Pengaruh penggunaan LKPD digital berbasis multirepresentasi menggunakan liveworksheet terhadap keterampilan proses sains siswa
This study investigates the effect of digital student worksheets (LKPD) based on multirepresentation using Liveworksheets on students' science process skills in Newton's law material. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design involving 46 high school students (23 experimental and 23 control groups) selected through purposive sampling in one of the schools in Jambi province. The experimental group received treatment using digital student worksheets based on multirepresentation through the Liveworksheets platform, while the control group used conventional learning methods. Data collection utilized science process skills test instruments validated through expert validation. Statistical analysis included normality tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk), homogeneity tests (Levene's test), and independent samples t-tests. Results demonstrated that both groups had normal data distribution (p > 0.05) and homogeneous variances. Pretest analysis showed no significant difference between groups (t = 0.244, p = 0.808 > 0.05), indicating equivalent initial abilities. However, posttest analysis revealed significant differences (t = -2.257, p = 0.029 < 0.05), with the experimental group achieving higher scores. The N-Gain analysis showed significantly higher improvement in the experimental group (t = -3.187, p = 0.003 < 0.01). The novelty of this research lies in integrating multirepresentation learning through the digital liveworksheets platform, combining verbal, mathematical, graphical, and pictorial representations in Newton's law concepts. The findings contribute to physics education by demonstrating that digital student worksheets based on multirepresentation through the Liveworksheets platform effectively enhance students' science process skills through interactive, technology-integrated learning experiences
Pengembangan komik matematika berbasis cerita rakyat Jambi dengan augmented reality untuk meningkatkan metakognitif siswa
Mathematics learning is often perceived as abstract and difficult, which leads to low motivation and poor outcomes among students. This study aimed to develop an innovative Mathematics Comic based on Jambi folklore supported by Augmented Reality (AR) to enhance students’ metacognitive skills. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The product was validated by experts in mathematics education, media, and teaching practice. The validation results showed that the media obtained an average score of 3.65 out of 4, categorized as very valid. A limited trial involving 10 junior high school students revealed that 87% of students considered the comic highly engaging, 82% stated it helped them understand abstract concepts, and 79% agreed it supported their learning strategies. Furthermore, a pretest–posttest design indicated an increase in the mean score from 56.2 to 78.4, with a normalized gain of 0.62, which is categorized as medium to high. These findings demonstrate that the Mathematics Comic enriched with AR is valid, practical, and effective in fostering students’ ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate their learning. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of Jambi folklore with AR-based comics, creating a meaningful, contextual, and culturally rooted learning experience. This research contributes to the improvement of mathematics learning quality, strengthening metacognitive awareness, and supporting the Merdeka Belajar curriculum in Indonesia
Qualitative confirmation of flavonoids in Moringa oleifera leaf extract and evaluation of antioxidant potential
Background: Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves are widely recognized as a medicinal plant and a high-nutrition source, with their biological activities supported by the content of phytochemical compounds. The Flavonoid group is the main class of polyphenol compounds known to confer potent antioxidant activity. Objective: This study aimed to verify the qualitative presence of flavonoids in the Moringa oleifera leaf extract and evaluate the associated free-radical scavenging capacity. Methods: Bioactive compounds were extracted using a suitable polar solvent, specifically 96% ethanol. The qualitative test for Flavonoids was performed using the Shinoda method, which employs Magnesium powder (Mg) and concentrated Hydrochloric Acid (HCI) as reagents. A positive result is confirmed by a characteristic color change (e.g., orange, red, or magenta) in the solution, indicating the reduction of the flavonoid's benzopyrone nucleus. Subsequently, the extract's antioxidant activity was qualitatively evaluated in vitro using the DPPH spot test method. Results: The qualitative screening showed a clear positive reaction for the Flavonoid group, characterized by the expected color change after the addition of Mg and HCl reagents. The confirmed presence of flavonoids correlates directly with the antioxidant evaluation, which demonstrated a strong radical scavenging ability by the extract. Conclusion: The Moringa oleifera leaf extract is qualitatively proven to contain flavonoids. These findings provide scientific validation that flavonoids are significant contributors to the plant's notable antioxidant potential, supporting its development as a natural nutraceutical source
Development of an internal locus of control scale for at-risk adolescents
Background: Locus of control is a key psychological construct that plays an important role in adolescents' self-regulation and resilience, especially among at-risk groups who experience vulnerabilities in family, social, and academic domains. However, valid and reliable instruments to measure this construct remain limited in the Indonesian context. Objective: This study aims to develop and validate an Internal Locus of control Scale specifically designed for at-risk adolescents. Methods: A quantitative research design was employed with 260 participants identified as at-risk based on school counselor and parental recommendations. The initial pool of 29 items was subjected to content validity testing by seven raters, resulting in 14 items meeting the Aiken's V ≥ 0.75 criterion. Subsequent Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) supported the removal of two items with weak factor loadings, yielding a final 12-item unidimensional model. The scale demonstrated significant item-total correlations ranging from r = 0.447 to r = 0.639 (p < 0.001). CFA results indicated a good model fit (CFI = 0.959; TLI = 0.942; RMSEA = 0.0466, 90% CI [0.0242–0.0664]). Reliability analysis showed Cronbach's Alpha of 0.805, reflecting high internal consistency. Results: These findings confirm that the Internal Locus of control Scale is psychometrically sound and suitable for assessing internal locus of control among at-risk adolescents. Conclusion: The scale can be used by researchers, psychologists, and counselors to support interventions aimed at strengthening adolescents' self-regulation and adaptive coping in challenging environments
Analysis of health seeking behavior of farming families in Kayu Aro, Kerinci
Background: Kayu Aro District in Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, is a mountainous agricultural area with unique geographic and socio-cultural characteristics. The majority of its population is farmers, primarily tea and vegetable growers. Based on data from the Kayu Aro Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in 2023, local residents tend to delay seeking formal treatment when experiencing health problems, primarily due to limited access to health facilities, the availability of traditional medicine, and economic factors. The geographical location, which includes highlands with limited transportation access, contributes to the unique patterns of healthcare seeking in this region. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the family medicine seeking behavior of farmers in Kayu Aro and to analyze community beliefs about the treatment of family diseases. Methods: This study uses a qualitative research method by interviewing 5 informants and using thematic analysis. Results: This study describes several common illnesses experienced by families, including fever, influenza, gout, ulcers, pruritus, back pain, hypotension, and others. Furthermore, people still rely on traditional healing methods before seeking medical care. Conclusion: Families still use traditional methods to treat family illnesses, especially when in the garden, because the distance to health facilities is too far
Evaluation of the deworming medication program for school-aged children in the working area of Puskesmas Simpang IV Sipin
Background: Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) remain a public health concern in Indonesia. Several prioritized NTDs include filariasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH), schistosomiasis, leprosy, rabies, and yaws. STH infections are among the neglected tropical diseases posing significant public health problems, particularly in areas with poor sanitation and low health awareness. School-aged children (5-14 years) are especially vulnerable to worm infections including Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and Ancylostoma duodenale due to various adverse effects including anemia, malnutrition, stunted growth, and decreased concentration in learning. Methods: A comprehensive evaluation of the deworming program is conducted to determine its effectiveness, identify existing obstacles, and formulate more targeted improvement strategies. The evaluation is based on four building blocks: input, process, output and outcome, using a mixed descriptive approach with questionnaires for interviews and direct observation. Results: The program officer has an educational background in three-year Diploma of Midwifery with 15 years of work experience. Although not officially appointed, field activities are supported by personnel from Environmental Health, Health Promotion, and other Public Health divisions. There is no official technical guideline for implementation; information from the Health Office has only been communicated via WhatsApp messages. Instructional materials are clear, but school cooperation is essential in reminding students and parents to ensure medication is taken. Conclusion: The helminthiasis control program at Puskesmas Simpang IV Sipin has been fairly well-executed according to technical guideline criteria, though specific training should be provided to enhance program manager capacity and performance
Evaluation of antihypertensive medication adherence among hypertensive patients at Puskesmas Olak Kemang
Background: Hypertension is a condition characterized by elevated systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure exceeding 140/90 mmHg. Medication adherence plays a crucial role in maintaining the long-term health of hypertensive patients, as non-adherence to antihypertensive therapy can lead to various complications such as stroke and even death. Objective: The study aimed to assess the level of antihypertensive medication adherence among hypertensive patients at Puskesmas Olak Kemang, especially in 2025. Methods: A descriptive study with a prospective approach was conducted, employing purposive sampling to select participants. Medication adherence was measured using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8), which consists of eight items.Results: The results revealed that 20% of patients demonstrated high adherence, 27% moderate adherence, and 53% low adherence to antihypertensive medication at Puskesmas Olak Kemang. Conclusion: Most hypertensive patients at Puskesmas Olak Kemang exhibit at a low level of medication adherence
