This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) English module in ELT at secondary school in Kota Jambi. It purposes to enhance students' language skills and critical thinking. This study uses an experimental design with a pre-experimental approach which involve a class at one of the secondary school in Kota Jambi. Data were collected through a set of tests and interviews to comprehensively address the research questions on the effect of using the IBL English learning module on students’ engagement, comprehension, and critical thinking. Data then analysed by using Paired Sample T-test. The participants were 30 11th-grade students. The finding revealed that there was significant improvement in students’ performance, as evidenced by the increase in the mean score from 7.7 in the pre-test to 8.13 in the post-test, indicating a significant effect of using the IBL English module on students’ English learning competence, especially in empowering their critical thinking. It is expected that this module might practically foster active students, lead them into critical thinking to support more meaningful English learning, and enhance the quality of English instruction, particularly at the secondary school in Jambi City. Recommendations for disseminating and implementing the module are provided for future research
The effectiveness of the UNJA CANTIK application in improving attitudes and behaviours for stunting prevention: An analysis of health technology adoption in Jambi city
Background: Stunting in Jambi Province recorded a significant increase to 17.1% (2024), exceeding the national trend. English speaking learning strategies: A case study of EFL learners at one public University in Jambi
As a foreign language and a medium for global engagement, the ability to communicate effectively in English is one of the most essential skills for university students in Indonesia. However, speaking in English remains one of the most challenging competencies to master due to psychological, linguistic, and environmental factors. This study investigates the learning strategies employed by EFL learners at one public university in Jambi in improving their English-speaking skill, using a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five English Education students at a public university in Jambi. Their results of the study revealed that motivation, self-confidence, peer interaction, media exposure, and consistent practice are key strategies that support their speaking development. The findings highlight the importance of integrating both cognitive and socio-affective strategies in English speaking pedagogy and suggest the need for supportive learning environments that encourage authentic communication
A needs analysis on the use of local context-based english textbooks in the national curriculum for junior high schools in Jambi
This qualitative study investigates the feasibility and strategic rationale for developing a locally contextualized English textbook for junior high schools in Jambi Municipality, Indonesia. While the National Curriculum promotes culturally responsive pedagogy, classroom practice in Jambi continues to rely on nationally produced textbooks that rarely include regional cultural representations. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with ten English teachers from diverse school contexts, analyzed thematically using the SWOT (Strengths–Weaknesses Opportunities–Threats) framework. The findings reveal strong pedagogical awareness and positive attitudes among teachers toward integrating local cultural elements such as pantun Melayu Jambi, Batik Jambi, and the Batanghari River to enhance student motivation, comprehension, and identity formation. However, teachers face substantial limitations in designing and implementing localized materials due to the lack of professional training, institutional infrastructure, and resource support. Despite these weaknesses, the National Curriculum provides an enabling policy window that allows curricular flexibility and opens opportunities for collaboration among schools, universities, and cultural institutions. The study concludes that local contextualization in English teaching is both pedagogically essential and strategically timely. To realize this potential, teacher empowerment, institutional collaboration, and policy integration must be prioritized. These findings justify advancing to the next phase of textbook design, validation, and classroom piloting for the development of a Jambi-based English textbook
Tinjauan Yuridis atas Badan Usaha Milik Desa (BUMDES) Sebagai Badan Hukum
This study aims to analyze the regulation of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) as legal entities and their liability for third-party losses within the framework of Indonesian legislation. The research employs a normative legal method with statutory and conceptual approaches to examine the synchronization of existing regulations. The findings indicate that when BUMDes are established in the form of a Limited Liability Company (PT), the formation process must comply with two legal frameworks: Government Regulation No. 11 of 2021 on Village-Owned Enterprises and Law No. 40 of 2007 on Limited Liability Companies. Regarding liability, BUMDes as a legal entity are obliged to compensate third-party losses in accordance with legal responsibility principles. However, the scope of liability differs depending on whether the loss arises from the negligence of management or from the fault of the BUMDes itself. This study concludes that the regulation of BUMDes as legal entities, particularly in the form of PT, faces regulatory dualism that may create legal uncertainty. Therefore, a specific regulation is required to comprehensively govern the legal status of BUMDes and their liability mechanisms, thereby strengthening legal certainty and enhancing their role as drivers of rural economic development
Indonesia's Role in Addressing Marine Plastic Waste Pollution in Southeast Asia Under the 1982 UNCLOS Framework
Marine plastic waste has become a significant environmental issue in Southeast Asia, prompting regional efforts to address its transboundary impact. As a member of ASEAN, Indonesia plays a strategic role in implementing international maritime environmental law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982. Objectives: This study aims to examine how ASEAN implements UNCLOS 1982 in tackling marine plastic pollution and to analyze Indonesia’s role in addressing this issue at both regional and national levels. Methodology: The research adopts a normative legal method with a statute approach, focusing on the legal norms within UNCLOS 1982 that pertain to marine environmental protection. Relevant ASEAN declarations and Indonesian national regulations are analyzed to assess their alignment with UNCLOS provisions. Findings: The study finds that ASEAN's implementation of UNCLOS 1982 includes a series of initiatives such as the ASEAN Conference on Reducing Marine Debris (2017), the Bangkok Declaration on Combating Marine Debris in the ASEAN Region (2019), and the ASEAN Framework of Action on Marine Debris. These instruments collectively establish a foundation for regional cooperation. Indonesia has actively participated in these initiatives and has reinforced its commitment through national measures, notably Presidential Regulation No. 83 of 2018 concerning Marine Debris Management, which includes a National Action Plan and the establishment of a National Coordination Team. Novelty: This study contributes to the understanding of Indonesia’s dual role in marine environmental governance-both as a regional actor in ASEAN and as a sovereign state implementing international obligations through national policy
Kehendak Negara dalam Perjanjian Internasional
Background: International cooperation through treaties establishes legally binding obligations for states that have expressed their consent to be bound under international law. In practice, however, the exercise of state will as an expression of sovereignty often comes into tension with these binding legal norms. In this context, what is often perceived as a disregard for treaty compliance does not indicate the absence of binding legal force, but rather reflects juridical tensions between treaty obligations and the exercise of state will. This study examines how state will operates within the framework of treaty compliance and influences the binding legal force of international treaties. Methodology: This research uses a normative juridical method with statutory, case-based, and conceptual approaches. Data were collected from primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials through literature review and analyzed qualitatively and descriptively. Objectives: The study aims to analyze the binding legal force of international treaties and to examine the juridical tensions that arise when state will conflicts with treaty compliance and implementation. Findings: The binding force of international treaties constitutes a complex legal construction that cannot be fully understood through a purely legalistic approach. A multidimensional analysis incorporating juridical, philosophical, sociological, and theoretical perspectives demonstrates that state compliance with international treaties is shaped not only by legal obligation, but also by domestic political dynamics and strategic national interests. In practice, these factors generate an asymmetry of state will in treaty compliance, whereby disparities in political power and legal capacity allow stronger states greater flexibility than developing states.Originality/Novelty: By situating state will within the juridical framework of treaty compliance, this study offers a contemporary legal analysis of how binding treaty obligations interact with political realities in modern international law.

Adaptation and Quality of Life among Hypertensive Patients in Wetlands: A Roy Model Study
Hypertension remains a major concern in low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia’s wetland regions such as Sungai Rangas Village, where environmental and cultural factors heighten disease burden and influence quality of life. Traditional and complementary therapies are commonly practiced, highlighting the need for culturally appropriate care models. This study examined adaptive responses and quality of life among hypertensive patients using Roy’s Adaptation Model, operationalized through an assessment instrument covering four modes: physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence. A quantitative descriptive design involved 120 respondents aged ≥40 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained using structured interviews and the WHOQOL-BREF. Most respondents were female (56.7%), older adults (40% ≥60 years), and had low levels of education. Findings showed the highest adaptive responses in interdependence (61.7%) and self-concept (59.2%), while role function had the lowest (55%). Quality of life was highest in social relationships (mean 62.4) and lowest in psychological health (56.1). Respondents with adaptive responses in all modes were more likely to report a higher quality of life (65%). Overall, adaptation patterns in wetland environments strongly shape the quality of life. Roy’s Adaptation Model provides a culturally sensitive framework, supporting recommendations such as strengthening peer support, environment-based health education, and improved mobile health access during flood seasons
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-COMPASSION AND LEARNING ANXIETY OF STUDENTS OF STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 11 MUARO JAMBI
This study aims to determine the levels of self-compassion and learning anxiety, as well as the relationship between self-compassion and learning anxiety among students of SMA Negeri 11 Muaro Jambi. The research used a quantitative correlational method with a Simple Random Sampling technique involving 72 students from grades X, XI, and XII in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that students’ self-compassion was in the high category (67%), while learning anxiety was in the moderate category (48%). The correlation test indicated a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and learning anxiety (r = -0.563, p < 0.05). This means that the higher the students’ self-compassion, the lower their learning anxiety. The findings imply that developing self-compassion through Guidance and Counseling services can be an effective strategy to reduce learning anxiety and enhance students’ psychological well-being
