Jesus’s Confession of Ignorance and Consubstantiality
This essay argues that Jesus’s confession of ignorance about the day and hour of his return (Matt. 24:36; Mark 13:32) is logically inconsistent with the Nicene-Constantinopolitan doctrine of his “consubstantiality” (homoousia) with God the Father. The essay first defines “consubstantiality”, then presents three formulations of the argument, and finally rebuts a number of possible responses: from the textual originality of the phrase “nor the Son”; from the reinterpretation of “knows” as “makes known”; from the ideas of partitive exegesis and communicatio idiomatum; and from the question of the Holy Spirit’s knowledge of the things of God
Eschatology, the Elimination of Evil, and the Ontology of Time
Part and parcel of the eschatology of the three Abrahamic faiths is the belief that sin and evil will be eliminated upon the consummation of God’s kingdom on earth. Not only do these beliefs affirm that God will ultimately “deal” with the problem of sin and evil, but that sin and evil will be no more. I refer to this eschatological belief as “the elimination of evil” (EOE). The EOE has important implications for how one understands the ontology of time. In this paper, I contribute to this discussion by arguing that ontologies of time that affirm the concrete existence of past moments are incompatible with the EOE. I also argue that solutions based on theories of hypertime, such as those posited by Tyron Goldschmidt and Samuel Lebens, also fail to solve the problems posed to those ontologies of time affirming the concrete existence of the past. I conclude that the ontology of time that best facilitates the EOE is presentism
du caractère « vague » (tel que défini dans la littérature logico-sémantique contemporaine) de la notion de hasard (chance) par opposition au caractère « non-vague » de celle d’aléatoire (randomness) ;

This article is based on the call for papers of the Tunisian international symposium «The evolution of teaching and training practices in French didactics: which research results?» identifies work conducted in French didactics on the analysis of teaching practices and initial and continuing training. This analysis is associated either with the intention of «professionalization», the production of knowledge on practices and their evolution by the change taken as the engine of progress of «professional action» and of circumvention of obstacles. Work has questioned the tensions and filiations between the concepts and models provided by research and the realities of class and/or training space in order to understand practices and promote their development. We examine three dimensions related to the evolution of teaching and training practices: the evolution of didactic concepts and models during their migration from one disciplinary field or from one space to another, then, the analysis of professional gestures and teaching postures taken as tools for the evolution and transformation of teacher action, finally, traces of this evolution through the verbalization of practices by teachers so that they can develop their critical gaze and act as reflCet article recense un certain nombre de travaux de recherche récents conduits en didactique du français qui s’intéressent à l’évolution des pratiques d’enseignement et de formation initiale et continuée.
Death Prevents Our Lives From Being Meaningful
This article seeks to show that death prevents one’s life from being meaningful on balance. Proponents of what has come to be known as the ‘imperfection thesis’ about life’s meaning claim that it is sufficient for one’s life to be meaningful that one relates to only a non-maximal conceivable value. In many, if not all, contexts, holding the imperfection thesis appears to be the sole reason for supposing that death need not prevent one’s life from being meaningful. Counter to this, it is argued that there is good reason to believe that the imperfection thesis is false, that arguments in favour of the imperfection thesis fail, and that attempts to show that the imperfection thesis can counter the arguments against it in a principled way are unsuccessful. Given this, it can be concluded that the imperfection thesis is false, and so there is no reason for supposing that death need not prevent one’s life from being meaningful
Health policies are never exclusively sanitary or economic, but are anchored in systems of representations and in a way of thinking about the autonomy of the person. These models are followed by physical and dietary practices which may contradict the principles of health on a biomedical level or what is expected in terms of biological effects. Hygienist’s discourses correspond, in fact, to social and cultural norms. However, although designed for the good of all, do these hygienic policies not become a source of discrimination? Are they not also contested by the groups and individuals concerned? Independently of knowing what a healthy body is, what do this government of bodies and healthy body models tell us about societies?
Health workers in Wallis-and-Futuna (a French possession in the South Pacific) most often blame local « culture » as the main obstacle to public health interventions regarding obesity. Polynesian culture would encourage people to stay obese by valuing « large bodies » as marking either fertility for women, or strength and power for men. These representations have been quite common in the South Pacific, as in many other places, but now seem to be shifting under the double influence of public health policies on the one hand, and the generalization of global beauty standards on the other hand.
Trib. U.E., 6 septembre 2023, WS e.a. c.
