National spatio-technical potential for PTES in Sweden: A first-order assessment by criteria screening
For Sweden, a country with one of the most developed district heating sectors in the world, the continued decarbonisation of central heat supplies and the contemporary development towards lower heat distribution temperatures is generating increased interest in large-scale seasonal thermal energy storage technologies. By virtue, not only of energy storage, but also of load shifting and peak shaving capabilities, seasonal storages are recognised today as key components in highly integrated and smart energy systems but have so far seen very limited application in Sweden. Given that Denmark, neighbour to Sweden and with a district heating development on par, is a world-leader in the application of pit thermal energy storages (PTES), this paper aims to initiate investigations into the possibilities for a similar application in Sweden. A spatial analysis sequence, akin to indicator modelling, identifies suitable areas for the construction of PTES by elimination of non-suitable areas based on a set of input data parameters and associated selection criteria, all within cost-effective heat transmission distances of aggregated district heating areas. The national potential in terms of available suitable land, expressed and discussed here by two model extremes scenarios, is generally high, but with local variations and with a characteristic latitudinal difference
Designing Outcome-based Contracts for Machine Manufacturers: A Taxonomy of Decision Criteria
Purpose: Machine manufacturers can enhance their revenues by providing outcome-based contracts (OBCs) that focus on delivering the outcome associated with machine performance. Although OBCs are gaining traction, structured taxonomies of decision criteria to guide their design remain underdeveloped.
Methodology: This study conducts a systematic literature review of academically reported industrial cases to develop a taxonomy of decision criteria for designing OBCs.
Findings: The proposed taxonomy identifies 20 decision criteria that significantly influence lifecycle profits and risk management in OBCs. These criteria mainly relate to ownership responsibilities, and the payment model. The study also outlines its theoretical and practical contributions.
Originality: The paper systematizes existing academically reported industrial cases and clarifies OBC-specific business model decision criteria from the perspective of machine manufacturers. It thus future OBC researchers to describe and analyze OBCs with greater depth and precision.
Practical implications: The taxonomy provides a practical tool for managers of machine manufacturers to design OBCs more effectively
UDKIK – New methods and data for mapping carbon-rich lowland soils
Hvordan dokumenterer man, at det nationale kulstofkort tager fejl – og hvordan kan lokale målinger forbedre fremtidens arealforvaltning? Projektet UDKIK udvikler et nyt teknisk og organisatorisk koncept for indsigelser mod kulstofkortet og undersøger, hvordan eksisterende og nyt jorddata kan anvendes til dynamisk opdatering af kortet.
Artiklen præsenterer både metoder til prøvetagning, dataintegration og brug af sensorteknologier, samt en opfordring til samarbejde med aktører, der ligger inde med målinger fra tørve- og lavbundsjorde.

Learning by not doing? Investigating language use dynamics in Danish upper secondary English classes
This small-scale study examines English foreign language (EFL) teaching in Danish upper secondary education (gymnasium), investigating the dynamics of language use among pupils in Danish upper secondary English classes. Through direct classroom observations, we explore how pupils engage with the language, particularly focussing on the prevalence of Danish versus English speech. We aim to explore how much English language spoken input upper secondary pupils receive and how much English language output pupils produce. Our findings reveal a notable tendency among pupils to predominantly use Danish during English classes or opting for silence altogether. In terms of input, we found that English is widely used by teachers in class, however, they switch to Danish when teaching grammar. This phenomenon underscores an interplay of cultural, motivational, and personal factors influencing pupil language choice and proficiency development. Our discussion considers the underlying reasons behind this linguistic behaviour, as well as the challenges and implications for language learning and teaching in Danish upper secondary education. Furthermore, we look at similar phenomena in a broader European context. We discuss the potential impact of classroom environment and pupil attitudes on language use patterns, offering insights to enhance English language acquisition and communication skills among pupils. By addressing the observed disparities between language instruction and pupil language output, this study contributes to an understanding of language learning dynamics within the Danish upper secondary context
The Embodied Experience of Prostration (chaktsal): Senses, Aesthetics, and Politics in the Eastern Himalayas
This study explores the embodied experience of prostration among Tibetan Buddhists through ethnographic research in the Eastern Himalayas. I extend somaesthetics theory by using a sensory ethnographic approach to analyze the intersubjective relations and bodily sensibility that intersect in the daily experience of prostration. By focusing on the interactions among their senses, aesthetics, and politics, I argue that prostration embodies the Monpa art of living as a creative act that enhances one’s good life. This study contributes to discussions of embodiment, sensory anthropology, Tibetan Buddhist studies of the body, and the politics of ritual
From the body as limit to the body as a platform: Somaesthetic Pathways between Body Art and Posthumanism
The paper sets out to explore the intricate concept of the incompleteness of the human body, tracing connections between earlier radical experiments of body art artists (from the 1970s to 1990s) and more contemporary explorations in posthumanism. Whereas the former set of experiments interrogated the physical and psychological points of resistance of the body, the latter are currently redefining bodily limits as sites of transformation, extension and empowerment. By way of this comparative study between early and more contemporary formations of body art, we explore the complex interplay between the perception and felt experience of finitude and transcendence for artists and audiences alike.
A Pathway to Immersive Storytelling: From Linear to Participatory: Reflecting on the Artistic XR works of Michelle & Uri Kranot
This paper contributes to understanding XR, animation, and participatory storytelling intersections by documenting and reflecting on creative processes. This account illustrates the Kranots’ trajectory through six stages of practice and research, illustrated by personal artistic works. The authors argue that the integration of performance, animation, and XR enriches creative industries and educational contexts, adding meaning and practical value. Their process begins with ‘performative immersion’, followed by ‘passive witnessing’ and ‘immersion through interaction’. The process is further explored in ‘immersion through being’ and ‘immersion through shared experience’. Their current stage of investigation concludes the process with the examination of ‘real-time narratives’. This research traces a personal artistic journey from linear to participatory storytelling, while providing a structured pathway for other artists and researchers to explore similar practices
Leading the Future: Exploring Transformational Leadership in the European Animation, Games, and VFX Industries
This study offers an in-depth analysis of how transformational leadership is currently understood and enacted within the European animation, games, and VFX sectors. Through qualitative insights gathered from 75 professionals across European studios and educational institutions, the research identifies both the promise and the practical limitations of the leadership model that centers on emotional intelligence, mentorship, and shared team ownership. While these principles are widely endorsed in the industries, the study finds that their consistent application is hindered by industry-specific challenges, most notably: the prioritization of technical expertise over leadership capabilities in promotion decisions, a lack of industry-specific leadership training, generational differences, and pressures stemming from intense production demands. Additionally, issues such as blurred boundaries between work and personal life and imbalanced workloads between leaders and teams further complicate leadership in the industries. The findings point to a need for clearer leadership frameworks tailored to the industry’s demands and greater institutional support to equip both current and future leaders with the skills needed to foster sustainable, high-performing teams for the evolving demands of these creative industries
