Factors influencing recommendation of sub-Saharan Africa travel products: A Hong Kong – Kenya importance-performance analysis
This study adopts an exploratory sequential mixed method approach to examine perceptions of Hong Kong travel agencies on factors influencing recommendation of Kenya travel products. First, we conducted 32 in-depth interviews with outbound travel practitioners to collect qualitative exploratory data. Based on 39 identified attributes, we then developed a questionnaire well-adapted to the outbound travel practitioners and study purpose. With survey data of 239 travel agency practitioners, we then conducted an importance–performance analysis to rate and analyze six identified factors: Catering and Ancillary Services, Shopping, Tourist Transport Provision and Infrastructure, Hotel Accommodation, Institutional Support, and Destination Image. The results suggest that in a resource-constrained situation, priority should be given to enhancing Tourist Transport Provision and Infrastructure. This article provides a starting point for further research on strategic tourism marketing and management within the underresearched Asia–Africa nexus
Life Cycle Assessment of Electric Vehicles and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles Using the GREET Model—A Comparative Study
Facing global warming and recent bans on the use of diesel in vehicles, there is a growing need to develop vehicles powered by renewable energy sources to mitigate greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions. Among the various forms of non-fossil energy for vehicles, hydrogen fuel is emerging as a promising way to combat global warming. To date, most studies on vehicle carbon emissions have focused on diesel and electric vehicles (EVs). Emission assessment methodologies are usually developed for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) which are non-durable household goods such as packaged foods, beverages, and toiletries instead of vehicle products. There is an increase in the number of articles addressing the product carbon footprint (PCF) of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the recent years, while relatively little research focuses on both vehicle PCF and fuel cycle. Zero-emission vehicles initiative has also brought the importance of investigating the emission throughout the fuel cycle of hydrogen fuel cell and its environmental impact. To address these gaps, this study uses the life-cycle assessment (LCA) process of GREET (greenhouse gases, regulated emissions, and energy use in transportation) to compare the PCF of an EV (Tesla Model 3) and a hydrogen fuel cell car (Toyota MIRAI). According to the GREET results, the fuel cycle contributes significantly to the PCF of both vehicles. The findings also reveal the need for greater transparency in the disclosure of relevant information on the PCF methodology adopted by vehicle manufacturers to enable comparison of their vehicles’ emissions. Future work will include examining the best practices of PCF reporting for vehicles powered by renewable energy sources as well as examining the carbon footprints of hydrogen production technologies based on different methodologies
A robotic defect inspection system for free-form specular surfaces
In this paper, we present a robotic system to automatically perform defect inspection tasks over free-form specular surfaces, which the image acquisition sub-system is equipped with a 6-DOF robot manipulator to achieve flexible scanning. Given the mesh model of the workpiece, we implement K-means based region segmentation algorithm on the point cloud after preprocessing. Then, we take the smooth regions as input to plan the scanning path. A projection registration method that robustly localizes the object in the robot’s frame is proposed for real-time workpiece localization. According to the optical features of the high-resolution line scan, we design an image processing pipeline to detect defects from the captured images. We report a detailed experimental study to validate the proposed methodology
A Comparison of Match Demands Using Ball-In-Play versus Whole Match Data in Professional Soccer Players of the English Championship
This is the first study to report the whole match, ball-in-play (BiP), ball-out-of-play (BoP), and Max BiP (worst case scenario phases of play) demands of professional soccer players competing in the English Championship. Effective playing time per soccer game is typically \u3c60 min. When the ball is out of play, players spend time repositioning themselves, which is likely less physically demanding. Consequently, reporting whole match demands may under-report the physical requirements of soccer players. Twenty professional soccer players, categorized by position (defenders, midfielders, and forwards), participated in this study. A repeated measures design was used to collect Global Positioning System (GPS) data over eight professional soccer matches in the English Championship. Data were divided into whole match and BiP data, and BiP data were further sub-divided into different time points (30–60 s, 60–90 s, and \u3e90 s), providing peak match demands. Whole match demands recorded were compared to BiP and Max BiP, with BiP data excluding all match stoppages, providing a more precise analysis of match demands. Whole match metrics were significantly lower than BiP metrics (p \u3c 0.05), and Max BiP for 30–60 s was significantly higher than periods between 60–90 s and \u3e90 s. No significant differences were found between positions. BiP analysis allows for a more accurate representation of the game and physical demands imposed on professional soccer players. Through having a clearer understanding of maximum game demands in professional soccer, practitioners can design more specific training methods to better prepare players for worst case scenario passages of play
Artist Interview - Lochner | Carmichael
Lochner|Carmichael are Jillian Lochner, who has worked as a commercial photographer for many years in fashion and on brand campaigns, and Andrew Carmichael, who arrived in commercial photography via a fine-art route. Lochner’s past clients include the likes of Absolut vodka, American Express, Levi’s and the New York Times Magazine; Carmichael has shown art at the ICA in London and in Vienna and Madrid. They started to work together creating still-life photography in 2014 and their collaborations have been featured in Italian Vogue, Sunday Telegraph Luxury, Amica and Creative Review.
Their work together is a genuine collaboration: each has their strengths and areas of expertise, but their joint creative output is very much the result of two minds; you could not say that one was the author and the other the support. Lochner brings great sensibility, a restrained palette and love of the flat image. Carmichael brings his making and sculptural background and a love of depth and perspective.
Prior to shooting, ideas are finessed, tested and critiqued. During the image-making process they are tested and critiqued further and then re-touched — all as a collaborative endeavour. Each has trust in the other, and as long as one is emotionally committed to an idea, they will work with each other until a successful outcome is achieved or will mutually agree to abandon it to mine another seam. They are a husband-and-wife team who know each other very well; they see their mutual support as a great strength
