Kampf den Unpatentierten: Die Aargauer Hebammenreformen und seine Auswirkungen im Fricktal
Get PDFThis article is a continuation of the article «Frau Holliger könne Hebamme sein, aber soll von Doktor Häggy nichts lernen» also found in this volume, which deals with the Habsburg midwifery reforms introduced in Fricktal in 1770. Due to their unpopularity these reforms had a difficult start in Fricktal, then part of Further Austria, increasingly losing their effect by the end of the century. When this area on the left bank of the Rhine became part of the Swiss canton of Aargau in 1803, the new government saw a great need to reform the midwifery system. According to the public health department most midwives in the new canton were inadequately trained and would therefore pose a danger to women giving birth and their newborn babies. For this reason, midwifery training reforms were deemed necessary. This article examines how the authorities of Aargau wanted to improve training, how the reforms were implemented within the framework of the new government’s structure and what measures they offered to deal with resistant communities and unlicensed midwives. Finally, a discussion is provided on how the population of Fricktal reacted to the new midwifery ordinance

AI in Global Teacher Collaboration: Lessons from Singapore, Australia, and Austria

Im Rahmen von ASEFClassNet17 nutzten Lehrer:innen aus Singapur, Österreich und Australien KI-Tools wie Brisk Teaching, Magic School AI, Suno und InVideo zur Entwicklung einer Unterrichtseinheit zu lokalem Klimaaktivismus. Ihre Erfahrungen zeigen, dass KI Barrieren abbauen, Kreativität fördern und multikulturelle Zusammenarbeit unterstützen kann. Der Erfolg hängt jedoch von der Kompetenz der Lehrkräfte, durchdachter Unterrichtsgestaltung und ethischen Überlegungen ab. Während KI-gestütztes Lernen Schüler:innen stärkte, traten Herausforderungen auf: Uneinheitliche nationale Policies erschwerten die Einführung. Singapur profitierte von klarer KI-Governance, während Österreich und Australien mit Unsicherheiten kämpften. Diese Studie unterstreicht KI als leistungsstarken Assistenten – aber keinen Ersatz für menschliche Kreativität und kulturellen Austausch. Durch die Verknüpfung von KI mit den Werten der Industrie 5.0 zeigt diese Studie, dass KI eine gute Unterstützung, aber kein Ersatz für menschliche Kreativität und kulturellen Austausch ist.This paper explores how AI-powered tools foster cross-border cooperation, enabling educators to co-create meaningful learning experiences. As part of ASEFClassNet17, teachers from Singapore, Austria, and Australia used AI tools like Brisk Teaching, Magic School AI, Suno, and InVideo to develop a climate change education initiative. Their experiences highlight AI’s potential to break barriers, enhance creativity, and support multicultural collaboration. However, success depends on teacher expertise, thoughtful instructional design, and ethical considerations. While AI-driven learning empowered students, challenges emerged: Uneven policies affected adoption, with Singapore’s structured AI governance providing clarity, while Austria and Australia faced uncertainty. Aligning AI with Industry 5.0 values, this study underscores AI’s role as a powerful assistant—but not a substitute for human creativity and cultural exchange

No full textDer Band diskutiert Verflechtungen von politischen Strategien und epistemischen Praktiken am Beispiel von Frauenbewegungen und Feminismen vom Ende des 19. bis in die zweite Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Vorwiegend diachron erzählte Bewegungsgeschichten werden synchron ausdifferenziert und in transnationale Zusammenhänge eingeordnet. Die Beiträge untersuchen Praktiken des Wissenstransfers sowohl transnational als auch zwischen Bewegung und Wissenschaft und nehmen unterschiedliche Peripherien in den Blick, um die Produktion globalen Wissens durch politisches Engagement zu analysieren. Sie ermöglichen damit nicht nur neue Narrative jenseits der diachronen Erzählungen zur Geschichte der Frauenbewegungen, auch die außerordentliche Relevanz dieser Bewegungsgeschichten sowohl für die Wissens- als auch für die Politikgeschichte wird deutlich.This volume uses the example of women’s movements and feminisms from the end of the nineteenth to the second half of the twentieth century to discuss the interweaving of political strategies and epistemic practices. The diachronic histories of movements are analysed synchronously and placed in a transnational context. The contributions examine practices of knowledge transfer both transnationally and between movements and academia, focusing on different peripheries to analyse the production of global knowledge through political engagement. They not only enable new narratives that transcend the diachronic narratives of the history of women’s movements but also emphasize the significant relevance of these histories of movements for the history of knowledge and political history
"Who wears a kilt like men and a sash like women": Negotiating foreignness, gender, and the body in New Kingdom representations of Near Eastern goddesses
Get PDFEgypt’s imperial age saw the emergence of new deities within the country’s monumental and literary repertoires. Some were of Near Eastern origin, while others were Egyptian creations inspired by perceptions of Near Eastern cultures. Among these were the goddesses Qadesh, Astarte, and Anat, whose bodily characterisations in visual and textual media exhibit features that are unusual compared with Egyptian norms of gendered representation. We might hypothesise that such figures were uniquely placed to disrupt convention, being doubly peripheral as both ‘foreign’ and feminine within an androcentric representational system. This article evaluates the utility of Marie Louise Stig Sørensen’s model of gender negotiation for understanding the processes that produced these representations. The paper first outlines Sørensen’s argument that gender norms are produced by finding agreements between different understandings of roles and identities. It then discusses the origins of Qadesh, Astarte, and Anat, interrogating the nature of the ‘foreignness’ they might embody. Their characterisations are then examined within a select corpus of visual and textual sources: Qadesh’s triadic stelae, the literary text Astarte and the Sea, and a mythic precedent to a magic spell called Anat, Seth, and the Seed of Pre. While these representations are indeed unusual, traces of more standard dynamics are nonetheless discernible. Drawing on Sørensen, we might describe this process as a negotiation between message and medium, between the intent to create exceptional, exoticised personas and the culturally determined vocabulary available to do so
