Language plays an essential role for human interactions and communication and it can also show cultural, social and individual identity. Ones’ background may generate different language use in either written or spoken contexts. Against this backdrop, this research aims to explore the written language styles of Islamic boarding school and non-Islamic boarding school alumni who learn Arabic as a foreign language. This research is designed under qualitative perspective and employs a case study approach. Data was in the form of documents, obtained through informant essays about the experience of learning Arabic. Besides, the data was also collected through semi-structured interviews with two informants to further understand differences in educational background, differences in first language, family background, foreign language mastered, and exposure to Arabic. Data was analysed by reading essays then providing coding and categorization, which was carried out separately by each researchers, conducting discussions on written language styles focusing on the choice of language used from a sociolinguistic aspect. The results of this research demonstrate that the written language styles of students of Arabic as a foreign language between Islamic boarding school and non-Islamic boarding school alumni have differences in terms of lexical choice, phrases and sentence structure.  Such differences happen because of the way a learner's family background, foreign language mastery, and exposure to Arabic influence the written language style. Moreover, the findings have demonstrated how different academic background, language exposure, and learning impact to one’s language style. Given the limited number of the informant, future research may consider recruiting more diverse and more participants

Arabic language learning in Indonesia can experience significant improvement if, in its implementation, there is a role for learning models, reinforcement and motivation, information processing, and students' self-confidence when speaking Arabic. This research aims to analyze Bandura's social cognitive thinking and its implementation in the Arabic language context. This research approach is a descriptive qualitative analysis study with the type of library research. The main source of data comes from various documents in books and scientific articles. Data collection is carried out through documentation techniques, namely tracing data sources that have been written and sources that are directly related to the figures being researched, and analysis using the content analysis method. Test the validity of the data using the credibility test method (internal validity), transferability (external validity), dependability (reliability), and confirmability (objectivity). The results of the research show that Bandura's social cognitive theory can be applied in Arabic language learning by improving the presentation of material through hiwar, imitation of material that has been studied, habituation, creating a language environment, maximizing learning media, and increasing students' motivation to use Arabic on a daily basis. The advantages of implementing Bandura's social cognitive theory in learning Arabic are prioritizing maharah istima' and maharah kalam, using a variety of learning media, increasing learning motivation, and creating a conducive learning atmosphere. The weakness is that learning evaluation is only based on the results, not the process, and requires sufficient time and effort to implement. Bandura's social cognitive thinking made a major contribution to the Arabic language, namely in developing interactive language learning methods and media, improving Arabic language skills, and increasing learner motivation and self-confidence. From this research, further research can be developed related to the implementation of social cognition in different cultural contexts, its effectiveness, and how the environment influences Arabic language learners

Arabic language learning in grades 10 and 12 still uses conventional methods which apparently have an impact on the lack of vocabulary mastery, seen from the arabic language scores that are below average. This is reflected in the arabic exam scores which are below average. The purpose of this study is to encourage student activeness and improve vocabulary learning outcomes. This research uses experimental method by comparing 2 learning models, namely conventional learning model and cooperative learning model. Conventional learning models tend to be passive and focus on lectures. Cooperative learning, on the other hand, involves collaborative and interactive activities. This model proves that conventional learning produces below-average scores, and cooperative learning of answer play type produces higher scores and has a significant positive impact on the mastery of Arabic mufrodat. It is proven from the pretest and posttest results of 7 to 18, this proves that cooperative learning is an effective alternative compared to the conventional method. Further research can explore how the same cooperative learning model can be applied to other language skills, this will help to see if this model is also effective in improving overall Arabic language skills

This research aims to get empirical evidence using English Comic Web-Toon and reading motivation on Reading Comprehension. The sample of this study numbered 60 students, 30 students for experimental classes and 30 for the control class, who were selected using sampling techniques. Before researchers gave treatment, students from the two classes were given a preliminary test to discover their ability to read the narrative text. Then, they were given a final test after treatment to see the progress. This research instrument has 25 multiple-choice questions. The methods used in this research are Quantitative and employ Factorial designs. In analyzing the data, examiners use t-tests. The calculation shows a t-table value significance. It suggests that to be higher than the t-table, the average value levels of the experiment class are higher than the value of the control class. Additionally, English Comic Web-Toon and reading motivation are highly effective in reading comprehension to read English texts of the eleventh SMA N 1 Lempuing academic year 2023/2024

    No full text
This study aims to explore students' engagement experiences in hybrid listening class. Three experiences of engagement were dig by the researcher those were behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. The qualitative research method with a narrative inquiry was used in this study. The participants were 8 students from the fifth semester of a university in Indonesia. The data were collected through interviews and student reflections. The thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The finding revealed that experiences related to behavioral engagement: noticing the lecturer’s explanation, and class participation (asking questions, learning practice) were more active in offline sessions than in online sessions. In addition, students showed their dominant engagement during offline sessions in cognitive activities like learning planning, efforts, strategies, challenges, and student achievements. Meanwhile, for emotional experience, students were enjoyed and happy with both sessions (online/offline), one of the reasons is its flexibility, especially for the listening material which allowed students to slowly grasp concepts and ensure full comprehension in both sessions. In essence, although students have an interest in hybrid learning, students still have a preference and a high tendency for offline sessions.&nbsp

Writing is a critical language skill that students must acquire; nevertheless, the teaching and learning process for writing in the classroom does not go smoothly. As a result, the purpose of this study is to examine Wordtune's potential as a digital writing aid to enhance the written proficiency of English as a foreign language (EFL) students. To accomplish this goal, a pre-experimental research design was used with quantitative research tools. The pre- and post-tests were employed as tools for gathering data. Twenty students in grade ten at SMK-BM PAB 3 Medan Estate, majoring in MPLB and AKL, served as the sample for this study. Tests were given both before and after the intervention to gather data. The significant difference between the pre-and post-tests was analyzed statistically using SPSS with the T-test. The result indicates that the probability value for pre-test and post-test data is 0.000, the Tcount value is 26.536, and the Ttable value is 2.093. Because the value of Tcount > Ttable is 26.536 > 2.093 and the probability value (Sig.) 0.000 < 0.05. As a result, the use of Wordtune considerably enhanced students' writing skills. As this study demonstrated, Wordtune can be integrated into the learning process to help students write more successfully
