    No full text
Mathematical literacy refers to students’ ability to think logically in mathematical terms, as well as to formulate, employ, and interpret mathematics within real life contexts, as assessed by the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This study aims to describe students’ mathematical literacy skills in solving PISA-type mathematical problems with a specific focus on the quantity content. The research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The study was conducted in one ninth-grade class at junior high school 6 Jambi City, involving 37 students as research subjects. The research instruments consisted of PISA-based quantity content test items and in-depth interviews to explore students’ thingking processes. This study refers to the indicators of mathematical literacy processes, including: (1) formulating situations mathematically; (2) employing mathematical concepts, facts, procedures, and reasoning; and (3) interpreting, applying, and evaluating mathematical outcomes. The findings indicate that students in the low category (54.05%) met only the “employ” indicator, those in the medium category (40.54%) met the “formulate” and “employ” indicators, while students in the high category (5.4%) fulfilled all indicators “formulate, employ and interpret. Futher analysis reveals that students still strunggle to formulate mathematical representations from given contexts and to reinterpret their solutions. These results highlight the need to integrate PISA-based contextual problems into mathematics instruction to enhance students’ higher-order thinking and mathematical literacy, there by supporting effective decision-making in real-life situations

Islamic Workplace Spirituality and Subjective Career Success Among Indonesian Muslim Teachers: The Mediating Role of Career Commitment

    No full text
Recently, the role of spirituality in the workplace has gained notable interest. This paper explores how career commitment mediates the impact of Islamic workplace spirituality dimensions (taqarrub, muraqabah, and istiqamah) on subjective career success among Muslim teachers in Indonesia. This study tested hypotheses using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on data from 200 respondents (38 male, 162 female) gathered through accidental sampling. The instruments used include the Commitment Career Measure (CCM) to assess career commitment (α = 0.857–0.904), Islamic Workplace Spirituality (IWS) to measure spirituality (α = 0.822–0.836), and the Subjective Career Success Inventory (SCSI) to measure career success (α = 0.891–0.911). All instruments showed good convergent validity (AVE > 0.50) and discriminant validity (Fornell-Larcker and HTMT criteria). The results indicate that career commitment plays a mediating role between Islamic workplace spirituality, particularly istiqamah and taqarub, and subjective career success. Career commitment has a significant positive impact on career success. Both istiqamah and taqarub positively influence career commitment, which in turn enhances career success. However, muraaqabah does not significantly affect career commitment or career success. The indirect influences of istiqamah and taqarub through career commitment are also significant, while muraaqabah's indirect effect is not. The study indicates that Islamic spiritual practices in the workplace can increase commitment and success among Muslim educators. Supporting these practices can help teachers perform better and feel more satisfied with their careers. This is crucial for educational leaders and policymakers to create better school environments

    No full text
Despite the growing recognition of academic boredom as a factor influencing student engagement and achievement, there is still a lack of culturally adapted and validated instruments for use in religious and highly structured educational settings such as Islamic boarding schools. Most existing tools were developed in general, non-boarding, and secular school contexts, primarily in Western countries that differ significantly from the cultural and educational characteristics of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aimed to adapt and test the validity and reliability of the 16-item Academic Boredom subscale of the Achievement Emotions Questionnaire (AEQ) among Islamic boarding school students in Indonesia. A total of 408 students from Islamic Boarding Schools in East Java, Indonesia participated in the study. This process adaptation involved several stages, including double translation, expert review, a readability test and construct confirmation. The data were analysed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with the Diagonally Weighted Least Squares (DWLS) method, as well as with reliability tests using Cronbach's Alpha and McDonald's Omega. The model fit indices (CFI = 0.919; TLI = 0.901; RMSEA = 0.071) and high internal consistency (α = 0.906; ω = 0.917) indicate that the adapted Academic Boredom subscale is valid and reliable for use in Islamic boarding school students in Indonesia. The implications of the study indicate that the adapted AEQ scale can be used as a diagnostic assessment tool for academic boredom in Islamic boarding school-based junior high school student, as well as supporting the development of affection-based learning interventions in Islamic Boarding School

    No full text
Counselor Students, while seen as key providers of counseling and guidance services in educational settings, frequently face challenges stemming from insufficient self-care practices. The absence of these practices often leads to psychological difficulties that compromise their ability to fully embody the characteristics of effective counselors. This situation raises concerns about counselor students’ readiness to assume professional responsibilities and maintain long-term effectiveness in their roles. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the impact of self-awareness, self-efficacy, and social support on the self-care of prospective counselor students, and to develop a comprehensive theoretical framework tailored specifically to their needs. This study employed an Ex Post Facto Causal Relationship Explanatory design. A sample of 277 students (38 males and 239 females) was selected using convenience sampling.  Data were collected using four validated and reliable instruments—the Self-Efficacy Scale, the Self-Awareness Scale, Sarafino's Social Support Scale, and the Mindful Self-Care Scale. Data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to examine the relationships between the variables. The obtained results showed that significant relationships existed between self-awareness, self-efficacy, and social support with self-care. This research underscored the significance of harmonizing the pre-service Guidance and Counseling education curriculum with the sole purpose of cultivating self-care practices among students through synchronized learning

Self-Efficacy, Reflective Thinking, and Critical Thinking: A Structural Equation Modeling Study Among Adolescents

    No full text
Students often face challenges in developing critical thinking (CT) in mathematics, largely due to low self-efficacy (SE) and limited reflective thinking (RT), while instructional approaches that integrate both aspects remain underutilized. This study investigates the interrelationships among SE, RT, and mathematical CT in Islamic and state middle schools. Employing a quantitative design, data were obtained from 260 students selected through simple random sampling and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Validated and reliable instruments were administered to measure SE, RT, and CT. The results indicate that SE exerts a significant influence on RT (β = .68, t = 5.55) and directly enhances mathematical CT (β = 1.12, t = 3.55). RT also contributes significantly to mathematical CT (t = 2.89). The SEM model demonstrates strong fit indices (χ² = 30.88, RMSEA = .034, p = .15), confirming the robustness of the findings. These results highlight SE as both a direct and indirect determinant of CT, mediated through RT. The study underscores the importance of incorporating RT-oriented strategies into mathematics instruction to simultaneously strengthen students’ confidence and foster higher-order CT skills
