Digital Project-Based Learning in English Language Education: Instrument for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals
Digital Project-Based Learning (DPBL) represents an innovative pedagogical approach that integrates digital technologies within project-based learning to enhance English language education in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: inclusive and equitable quality education. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to investigate the implementation of DPBL in English language teaching and its effectiveness in fostering essential 21st-century competencies such as communication, digital literacy, critical thinking, and global citizenship. Data were collected from peer-reviewed publications between 2019 and 2024 using the Publish or Perish software and databases including Scopus and Google Scholar. The review highlights that DPBL not only improves English language proficiency but also enhances student motivation, engagement, and awareness of real-world challenges aligned with sustainability values. The findings suggest that DPBL is a promising instructional strategy that bridges language acquisition with global education goals, making it a valuable contribution to both academic and sustainable development agendas
Problem-Based Inquiry Method: Improving Critical Thinking Skills, Academic Outcomes, and Learning Motivation
This study investigates how well the Problem-Based Inquiry Method (PBIM) improves academic performance, learning motivation, and critical thinking abilities. Innovative techniques are required since traditional education methods frequently fall short in fostering intellectual curiosity and higher-order cognitive skills. Inquiry-based learning and problem-solving are combined in PBIM to encourage active student participation. A control group (n=67) that received traditional instruction was contrasted with an experimental group (n=66) that used PBIM in a quasi-experimental design. Motivation surveys, subject-specific posttests, and standardized critical thinking tests were used to gather data, which were then subjected to t-tests and MANOVA analysis. The experimental group's critical thinking (mean difference = 22.82, p=0.000), academic results (mean difference = 8.69, p=0.000), and motivation (mean difference = 16.12, p=0.000) all showed significant gains, according to the results. The multivariate influence of PBIM was validated by MANOVA (p<0.05). The results support the inclusion of PBIM in educational practices to replace passive learning paradigms by highlighting its effectiveness in promoting cognitive development, academic achievement, and intrinsic motivation
The Impact of Contextual Authentic Materials on Reading Comprehension among Vocational High School Learners
This study investigates the effectiveness of using contextual authentic materials in improving vocational high school (SMK) students’ reading comprehension and motivation in learning English reading. The research was conducted among tenth-grade hospitality students at SMK Negeri 2 Polewali during the 2025/2026 academic year. Using a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design, 42 students were randomly assigned to experimental (n = 21) and control (n = 21) groups. The experimental group was taught using contextual authentic materials, such as hotel advertisements, reservation forms, tourism brochures, and workplace memos—while the control group received conventional textbook-based instruction over six sessions within five weeks. Data were collected through pretests and posttests consisting of 20 multiple-choice items measuring four sub-skills: identifying main ideas, recognizing supporting details, making inferences, and interpreting references. Statistical analyses using SPSS version 26 included descriptive statistics, assumption testing, and inferential analyses (ANCOVA and independent-samples t-test). The results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group significantly, F(1, 39) = 26.48, p < .001, partial η² = .40, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.62). Students exposed to contextual authentic materials demonstrated greater gains across all sub-skills, with the highest improvement in inference-making. Classroom observations further indicated that these materials enhanced students’ engagement and motivation by linking classroom learning to real-world professional contexts. The findings affirm that contextual authentic materials are effective in fostering both cognitive and affective outcomes in vocational English learning. They enable students to connect language learning with their future careers, promoting meaningful, relevant, and motivated reading comprehension. Consequently, English teachers and curriculum developers in vocational schools are encouraged to integrate authentic vocational texts into instruction to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace communication
Factual Study of Academic Supervision at Primary and Secondary Educational Levels in Indonesia
This paper aims to review, identify and synthesize existing research on academic supervision programs at primary and secondary education levels in Indonesia between 2021 and 2024. A total of ten scientific articles covering the topic of academic supervision in Indonesia were collected and analyzed. The review revealed that academic supervision programs implemented in Indonesia aim to improve teacher performance and plan and provide follow-up to the results of the supervision. Various obstacles and challenges have been identified, including the understanding of supervision itself by the principal, how to carry out academic supervision in the field, and how follow-up to supervision results can be carried out. The findings indicate that although academic supervision programs have a positive impact on improving teacher performance, further efforts are needed, starting from a correct understanding of the concept, planning and implementation of academic supervision itself to the follow-up provided so that academic supervision programs can provide great benefits for improving the quality of education as a whole
An Analysis of Students' Understanding of Multiplication and Division Concepts Using HOTS Questions in Terms of APOS Theory
Understanding concepts in mathematics is a very important ability. Because almost all activities in everyday life are related to mathematics. This study aims to explore fourth grade elementary students' understanding of the concepts of multiplication and division using HOTS questions in terms of APOS theory. This type of research is qualitative using an explorative descriptive approach. The research subjects were 6 students who had been selected based on the criteria of high, medium and low scores. Data collection techniques in the study used interviews, tests and documentation. From the results of the study it was found that students' understanding of concepts related to multiplication and division using HOTS questions in terms of APOS theory experienced significant differences. Students with high concept understanding criteria are able to reach the schema stage. Students with moderate concept understanding, still find it difficult at the process stage to the scheme. This is because these students have not been able to identify the type of problem included in the multiplication or division problem. Meanwhile, students in the low category have not been able to reach the action stage. Students who fall into this low category find it difficult when distinguishing which ones include multiplication problems and which ones include division problems, so that at the action stage they are unable to write what is known, asked until the answer. This is a serious concern for all of us to continue to pay attention to the continuity of learning, especially mathematics on multiplication and division material. For educators, this study highlights the importance of explicitly teaching problem structures, operation identification, and meaning-making in context. For curriculum developers, integrating APOS-informed tasks into learning materials and assessments could enhance conceptual understanding from early grade
The Design of Mathematics Learning with A Problem Based Learning Scheme to Stimulate Students' HOTS
The need for effective mathematics learning is closely tied to the availability of instructional tools that can foster students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). However, such tools remain limited, particularly within vocational education settings. This study aims to develop mathematics learning instruments based on a problem-based learning (PBL) approach that are valid, practical, and effective in enhancing HOTS among vocational high school students. The developed products intended for Grade XI students in the second semester consist of lesson plans, student activity sheets, and learning outcome test instruments. The research employed a 4-D development model, consisting of the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. The instruments were tested through three phases: expert review, limited trial, and field trial. Participants included mathematics teachers and students from two different vocational schools. Data were collected using validation sheets, teacher and student assessment instruments, and learning outcome tests. The findings indicate that the developed instruments meet all three criteria: validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Expert validation confirmed that the lesson plans and student activity sheets are valid, the limited trial showed that the tools are practical for classroom use, and the field trial demonstrated that the instruments effectively improved students’ HOTS. In conclusion, the developed mathematics learning instruments not only provide an empirically tested and innovative alternative to conventional teaching methods but also contribute significantly to strengthening vocational mathematics education. By promoting students’ HOTS, these tools help prepare learners with essential 21st-century competencies.
Interactive Video Animation Media Based on Problem Based Learning to Improve Students’ Motivation and Science Learning Outcomes
This study aims to develop interactive video animation learning media with a Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach to improve students’ motivation and learning outcomes on the topic of plant reproduction in elementary school. The research employed a development method based on the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The media was designed using animation and interactive elements that visualize abstract biological concepts, supported by problem-based scenarios to encourage students’ critical thinking and engagement. The validation process involved media experts, material experts, and learning design experts. The results indicated that the media met the “very valid” category, with an overall average score above 90%. Practicality tests conducted with teachers and students showed excellent usability, with mean scores of 95% and 94%, respectively, indicating that the media was easy to operate and engaging. The effectiveness test using a pretest-posttest control group design demonstrated significant improvements in both motivation and learning outcomes, as evidenced by an N-Gain score of 0.70 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. These findings suggest that the developed interactive video animation media is valid, practical, and effective for enhancing students’ motivation and achievement in science learning. The integration of PBL and digital animation provides meaningful learning experiences, supports active participation, and contributes to innovative instructional practices in the context of the Merdeka Curriculum implementation in elementary schools
Diversion for Juvenile Offenders Involved in Gang-Related Crimes
This study examines the implementation of diversion policies for adolescents involved in gang activities within the juvenile criminal justice system in Indonesia. The phenomenon of children involved in criminal gangs is on the rise, raising legal and social concerns. Diversion of children from formal prosecution is regulated in Law No. 11 of 2012 on SPPA and PERMA No. 4 of 2014. This study employs a normative legal method with a literature review approach, analyzing legislation, legal literature, and court rulings. The findings indicate that although diversion policies are well-regulated in theory, their implementation faces significant challenges, including a lack of understanding among officials, limited facilities, and weak coordination between institutions. As a result, there is an urgent need to strengthen the regulatory framework, enhance the capacity of implementers, and adopt a more contextual and community-based approach to ensure the optimal implementation of diversion strategies
Handling Violations of Election Administration in 2024 in the Perspective of the Principle of the Rule of Law in Lampung Province
The implementation of the 2024 Election in Lampung Province is still faced with various administrative violations, such as the inaccuracy of the Permanent Voter List (DPT), the use of voting rights not according to domicile, and indications of vote manipulation. This condition has the potential to hurt the principle of the rule of law, reduce the legitimacy of elections, and weaken public trust in election organizers. This study aims to identify forms of violations of the administration of the 2024 Election in Lampung Province, analyze the mechanism for handling them by the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and assess the implementation of the principle of the rule of law in the process. This study uses a qualitative method with a normative-empirical approach. The data was obtained through interviews with the KPU and the Metro City Bawaslu as well as a documentation study of Law Number 7 of 2017, PKPU Number 15 of 2024, Perbawaslu Number 9 of 2024, and election supervision reports. The results of the study show that administrative violations still have a significant impact on the legitimacy of elections due to the weak accuracy of voter data, limited human resources, and suboptimal institutional coordination. This study recommends strengthening the capacity of Bawaslu, increasing the transparency and accountability of the KPU, consistent law enforcement, and optimizing information technology in election supervision
Reconstructing the Epistemology of MUI Family Law Fatwas: Integrating Ushul Fiqh, Maqāṣid, and Social Context
The fatwas of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in the field of family law play an important role in shaping the religious direction of the people, but are often formulated without an explicit, transparent, and academically verifiable process of istinbāṭ. Although many fatwas refer directly to the Qur'an and Sunnah, these references are often not accompanied by open ushuliyyah reasoning, causing the fatwas to appear normative rather than the result of scientifically responsible legal construction. This article investigates the epistemic structure of five MUI fatwas on divorce, marriage guardianship, child custody, polygamy, and interfaith marriage that were not responded to with fatwas, using a normative-critical approach based on ushul fikih and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. The results show that most fatwas use nash arguments directly, but do not explain the stages of istidlāl, such as qiyās, istiḥsān, istiṣlāḥ, or sadd al-dzarī‘ah. This indicates an epistemic disconnect between authoritative sources and the process of legal reasoning, which implies weak scientific legitimacy and low social and gender sensitivity in fatwa rulings. In response, this article offers an integrative istinbāṭ model based on four main nodes: naṣṣ, istidlāl, maqṣad, and context, as an effort to reconstruct a more ethical, adaptive, and responsible fatwa methodology. By simultaneously operating the frameworks of ushul fikih, maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, and ijtihad epistemology, this model not only strengthens the methodological accountability of fatwa institutions, but also opens new horizons for fatwas that are fair in meaning and socially relevant in facing the complexities of contemporary Muslim families
