Implementasi Tahap Enaktif-Ikonik-Simbolik (EIS) Bruner untuk Meningkatkan Pemahaman Konsep Operasi Perkalian pada Siswa Sekolah Dasar: Studi Literatur Tingkat Dasar

    No full text
This study aims to describe Jerome S. Bruner's learning theory and its developmental stages in depth, and to explain the application of each stage in helping students understand basic concepts of Mathematics, especially in the material of multiplication operations at the elementary school level. The problem in this study is since many elementary school students still consider Mathematics as a difficult, confusing, and less enjoyable subject. This is caused by the learning process, which is monotonous, abstract, and does not pay attention to the characteristics and stages of cognitive development of students who are still in the concrete operational phase. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach to various relevant sources such as books, scientific articles, and research journals that discuss Bruner's theory and its application in Mathematics learning. The results of the study show that the application of Bruner's three stages of mental representation, namely the enactive, iconic, and symbolic stages, can help students understand the meaning, structure, and concept of multiplication operations gradually. Thus, learning becomes more meaningful, active, interesting, contextual, and in accordance with the cognitive development of elementary school students

Pola Transformasi Aksi, Proses, Objek, dan Skema Mahasiswa dalam Memecahkan Masalah Limit Ditinjau dari Gaya Kognitif

    No full text
This study aims to describe the transformation patterns of Action–Process–Object–Schema (APOS) in students with Field Dependent (FD), Field Neutral (FN), and Field Independent (FI) cognitive styles when solving limit problems. The central issue addressed in this research is the low level of conceptual understanding of limits among students. The study employs an exploratory qualitative approach with a collective case study design. The research subjects consist of nine mathematics education students selected based on the results of a cognitive-style assessment. Data were collected through APOS-based problem-solving tasks, observations of students’ thinking processes, and semi-structured in-depth interviews. The analysis reveals that FD students tend to remain at the action–process stages, FN students reach the process–object stages, while FI students construct conceptual understanding up to the object–schema stages. These findings indicate that cognitive style influences the depth and flexibility of students’ understanding of the limit concept. Theoretically, this study extends the application of APOS theory by incorporating cognitive style as a mediating factor. Practically, the results recommend implementing calculus learning strategies that are adaptive to students’ cognitive styles to strengthen conceptual transformation processes in advanced mathematics learning

Moreover, the study examined the correlation between academic procrastination and psychological and social adjustment. The study recruited (350) students from Hashemite University. The Academic Procrastination and the Psychological and Social Adjustment scales were utilised to achieve the objectives. The findings showed that (65.1%) of the students had a medium level of academic procrastination, and (4.6%) of the students had substantial levels and a moderate level of psychological and social adjustment. The results demonstrated that the gender variable contributed to statistically significant differences in the degree of psychological and social adjustment. Finally, academic procrastination and psychological and social adjustments were found to be negatively and statistically significantly correlated. The study recommends providing support to university students, by helping them identify the challenges they face, find solutions for them, and overcome them with the aim of achieving their ambitions, in a way that enhances their psychological and social adjustment

Being Tolerant in Diaspora: Indonesian Islamic Religiosity, Islamism, and Attitude Towards Other Groups Among Indonesian Community in Australia

    No full text
This study analyzes how the Indonesian Muslim community in Australia coexists with non-Muslim communities and how their religiosity and the tendency of Islamism influence their interactions. An online survey was done to collect data by using a questionnaire involving 106 respondents, all members of religious study groups (pengajian) in Sydney. All items satisfy the criteria of validity with a correlation value greater than 0.3, and the construct is also reliable with α = 0.872, indicating good internal consistency. Analysis was done by means of Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with R^2 =22.3%; the study shows that support for both religiosity and Islamism has a significant effect on attitudes toward other groups. Remarkably, Islamism is found to have a negative impact on positive attitudes towards non-Muslims (R1^2=19.15%), fortifying findings from similar research specifying that Islamists frequently oppose pluralism. In addition, the study suggests that performing obligatory rituals, such as Ramadan fasting and daily prayers, does not significantly affect positive attitudes towards non-Muslim groups (R1^2=0.052%). Nonetheless, distinct Islamic religious practices in Indonesia, e.g., yasinan, tahlilan, tasyakkuran, selametan, mawlid an-Nabi (celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday), and ziyarah, positively and significantly affect positive attitudes towards other communities in Australia (R1^2=3.055%). This reflects the nature of Indonesian Islamic religious practices that promote more tolerant and inclusive religiosity

The Impact of Attending Qur’an Memorization Programs on Psychological Wellbeing: A Study on Adult Females

    No full text
This research explored the effects of attending Qur'an memorization centers on major aspects of intact wellbeing and cognitive capabilities. The target population included four hundred healthy adult females (those Qur'an centers in the sample were female-only institutions, per the gender-segregated practices of many Muslim communities) classified into five groups according to their Qur'an level of memorization: (1) full memorization, (2) memorized 15–29 Juz’, (3) memorized 5–14 Juz’, (4) memorized 1–4 Juz’, and (5) minimal memorization limited to public schooling. They were instructed to complete a set of self-report scales and cognitive tests and a questionnaire on demographic information. A multivariate analysis of covariance showed an overall group difference in life satisfaction, happiness, and general reasoning, but not when examined individually with regard to statistical significance. Further analysis revealed that attendance at the Qur'anic memorization centers predicted life satisfaction more powerfully than happiness or cognitive abilities. In conclusion, these findings suggest that Qur'an memorization centers positively influence life satisfaction, while their influence on other cognitive and emotional factors may be more complicated. The current study indicates that the influence of religious practices on wellbeing should be considered and further research is required to examine the association between attendance at Qur'an memorization centers and the broad measures of cognitive functions

Islamic Value-Based Student Employability Scale: Validation with Rasch Model

    No full text
In the era of globalization, universities in Indonesia are expected to produce graduates who are academically excellent and equipped with employability skills grounded in Islamic values. This dual expectation necessitates the development of assessment tools that align educational outcomes with religious and cultural contexts. However, existing employability scales often fail to capture the ethical and spiritual dimensions vital for Muslim students. This study aimed to develop and validate an Islamic value-based student employability scale that integrates core employability skills, Islamic work ethics, workplace spirituality, resilience, and motivation. Item development was based on a comprehensive literature review and expert consultation to ensure theoretical relevance and cultural appropriateness. The Rasch model was employed to provide accurate, bias-free measurement and to confirm unidimensionality. A cross-sectional design involving 1,192 students from 26 public Islamic universities in Indonesia was used, with data collected through an online questionnaire. Rasch analysis demonstrated strong validity and reliability (item reliability = 1.00; person reliability = 0.90), confirming the scale's ability to measure a single core construct. The Islamic value-based employability scale offers a psychometrically sound tool for assessing Muslim students' workplace readiness. It provides practical insights for Islamic higher education curriculum development and policy design
