No full textThe idea of ‘school’ has bound architecture and pedagogy in a single body and maintained the bond between designing a space for those who inhabit educational places daily and a precise training model reflecting the society of the time. Singularity and generality come together in a balance necessary for understanding differences among everyday needs. For this profound reason, school architecture is the most tangible opportunity to desire and imagine forms corresponding to a precise teaching model. It frankly interprets the multiple needs underlying this subject – slight nuances, different characterisations, unique slants, and controversial interpretations of a period in human life that encompasses the greatest changes in a short time. The difficult yet desired relationship between architecture and pedagogy, educational environment and thought is not new. Undoubtedly, the last twenty years have taken up with greater determination an issue that has long lain dormant under a convenient scapegoat: a regulation that since 1975 halted any utopian thrust.L’idea di Scuola lega da sempre in un unico corpo architettura e pedagogia, vive nella stretta relazione tra la definizione di uno spazio adeguato a chi abita quotidianamentequesti luoghi didattici e un preciso modello formativo più generale aderente alla società del proprio tempo, capace di immaginare spazi educativi corrispondenti al presente e al futuro prossimo attraverso una trascrizione coerente dei modi della conoscenza. Singolarità e generalità si saldano in un equilibrio necessario a comprendere ogni diversità entro comuni esigenze; una comunità di originali oggetti lavorati a mano, mai uguali, accumunati dalla loro naturale umanità. L’architettura della Scuola rappresenta, per questa ragione profonda, la possibilità più concreta per desiderare e immaginare forme corrispondenti ad un preciso modello di insegnamento, interpretando con onestà le molteplici esigenze alla base di questo tema che accoglie al suo interno minime sfumature, differenti caratterizzazioni, singolari accenti, controverse interpretazioni di un periodo della vita umana che racchiude inpoco tempo le maggiori trasformazioni. In 2017, the year in which we built the application, within the ArchéA research we were interested in understanding how to combine ICT (Information and Communication Technology) with university teaching in Architecture. We thus hypothesized to experiment with the use of electronic blackboards, tablet and other instruments to be used in teaching, in particular, the architectural project. In practice, we were looking for tools that were useful in the project developed in the shared teacher-student activity laboratories

No full textThe recent health emergency has marked a moment of crisis for the class unit that has constituted, since the first half of the nineteenth century, the minimum dimension through which our culture has organised the process of mass education. In the light of these conditions and following a debate that has been going on for more than a decade, it therefore seems unnecessary to return to the subject of schools. We have therefore decided to dedicate this issue of FAM to the school, setting it out along three lines of study, which more than others we felt it was important to try to tackle in parallel: pedagogy, language and society, identifying three areas that are in themselves autonomous, but also certainly dependent in the construction of learning spaces and in the daily experience of those who attend them, starting with children.La recente emergenza sanitaria ha segnato un momento di crisi per l’unità classe che ha costituito, fin dalla prima metà dell’Ottocento, la dimensione minima attraverso cui la nostra cultura ha organizzato il processo di formazione di massa. Alla luce di tali condizioni e a seguito di un dibattito ormai più che decennale, non sembra quindi inutile tornare a parlare di scuola. Ricostruire Puerto Rico dopo gli uragani Irma e Maria. La resistenza della cultura insediativa suburbana nel Caribe
No full textThis short study documents a summary of the cultural and technical debate on ‘reconstruction’ developed in recent years in the specific context of Puerto Rico, following the environmental and economic disaster caused by two successive hurricanes on the island in 2017, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. The design interventions and long-term visions promoted through an initiative, Puerto Rico Re_Start, led after the disaster by the University of Florida, with the support of the main local universities, and the housing solutions developed by the most culturally active architects of the island, show that the typically American suburban settlement culture, despite the evident risks, continues to be the preferred choice of Puerto Ricans. The text also highlights, through reference to some field studies carried out by a Sapienza University team within the initiatives of the University of Florida, the insufficiency of the suburban settlement model compared to the mobility system and the means of transport most commonly used on the island.Questo breve studio documenta una sintesi del dibattito sulla ‘ricostruzione’ elaborato in anni recenti nel contesto specifico di Puerto Rico dopo il disastro ambientale ed economico provocato da due uragani successivi abbattutisi sull’isola nel 2017, l’Uragano Irma e l’Uragano Maria. Gli interventi progettuali e le visioni di lungo termine promossi dopo il disastro attraverso l’iniziativa Puerto Rico Re_Start, guidata dalla University of Florida, con il supporto delle principali università locali, e le soluzioni abitative elaborate dagli architetti culturalmente più attivi dell’isola, dimostrano che la cultura insediativa suburbana, tipicamente americana, nonostante i rischi ricorsivi, continua ad essere la scelta prediletta dai portoricani. In particolare quella che vede le abitazioni concepite più come prodotto commerciale (efficienza e autonomia energetica e tempi rapidi di realizzazione) che edilizio, capace di struttura e dare forma alla qualità urbana. Il testo, inoltre, riporta gli esiti di alcuni studi svolti sul campo da un team della Sapienza Università di Roma nel quadro delle iniziative organizzate dalla University of Florida, evidenziando l’insufficienza del modello insediativo suburbano rispetto al sistema della mobilità e dei mezzi di trasporto maggiormente in uso sull’isola

No full textThis essay is a re-elaboration of a lesson held at the “Sculptural Presences” Workshop of the CSAC of Parma on 23 July 2016. The lesson entitled "Architectural sculpture" started from the hypothesis that certain 20th-century architecture had an architectural design attitude that tended towards sculpture, without actually reaching it. Architectural examples have been identified since Rationalism and throughout the 20th century which can be considered "architectural sculpture" for various characters. The thesis subsequently opened the field to more in-depth reflection on the relationship between architecture and sculpture, and above all on some common composition elements in architecture and sculpture as well as on some tendencies of architecture to present itself as a pure formal act.Questo saggio deriva dalla rielaborazione di una lezione tenuta al Workshop “Presenze scultoree”, del CSAC di Parma il 23 luglio 2016. La lezione intitolata “Lo scultoreo architettonico” partiva dall’ipotesi che in alcuni esempi di architetture del Novecento esistesse un atteggiamnto progettuale architettonico che tendesse alla scultura pur senza raggiungerla. Dal Razionalismo e per tutto il Novecento sono individuati esempi architettonici che possono, per differenti caratteri, essere annoverati come “scultoreo architettonico”. La tesi, ha successivamente aperto il campo ad una riflessione più approfondita sul rapporto tra architettura e scultura e soprattutto su alcuni elementi comuni della composizione in architettura e in scultura nonché su alcune derive dell’architettura nel porsi come puro atto formale

No full textThe 2016 Sculptural Presences Workshop had the common theme of investigating the relationship between architecture and art, and was organized by the University of Parma (coordinated by Carlo Quintelli), the IUAV University of Venice, the University of Bologna, the Polytechnic Institute of Milan, and the La Sapienza University of Rome.Of that theoretical-practical experience – the workshop had as its purpose the design of new museum spaces of the CSAC in relation to specific works of art – this article is a precise account of all the contributions made in various ways by the numerous speakers who attended.
