Towards Value Re-Orientation of Primary School Female Teachers on the Role of ICT in Teaching and Learning in Oyo Town, Nigeria
This study examined the perceived roles of ICT by primary school female teachers and the re-orientating of their perception of roles of ICT in teaching and learning in Oyo Township, Nigeria. To assess this, three (3) research questions were raised. A descriptive research design of the survey type was used for the study. 90 respondents were randomly selected from 12 primary schools of three each from the three LGAs in Oyo town. A questionnaire on ‘Towards value reorientation of Primary School Female Teachers on the role of ICT was used as an instrument for data collection. The instrument was trial tested using test-retest reliability and analyzed which yielded a 0.81reliability index. Data collected were analyzed using mean to answer the research questions. The finding showed that the respondents accepted all the items on the roles of ICT to sustainable development with a mean of 3.21. Perceived values of ICT and strategies for enhancing value reorientation of primary school female teachers using ICT for sustainable development in Oyo town with grand means of 3.45 and 3.21 respectively. The study concludes that the value reorientation of female primary school teachers on the role of ICT in teaching and learning would enhance expected sustainable development in Oyo and Nigeria as a whole. Based on this, it was recommended that female teachers should be equipped with ICT tools and adequate training should be given to them on the use of ICT tools and the government should ensure that ICT policy is translated into reality
ON THE STABILITY OF MODIFIED CRANK-NICOLSON METHOD FOR PARABOLIC PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
In this paper, we investigate the stability of Modified Crank-Nicolson method for solving one dimensional Parabolic equation knowing that finite difference solution of partial differential equations must satisfy the requirement of stability, if they are to be reasonably accurate. We examined it with the Von-Neumann scheme using the Fourier series methods and our result is confirmed with examples
PERCEPTION OF MATHEMATICS TEACHERS TOWARDS ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN KANO STATE
One of the main cornerstones for achieving sustainable development is education. Particularly, the fourth and fifth goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) stressed the importance of ensuring inclusive and quality education for all. This study investigated the perception of mathematics teachers on the role of quality education and gender-balanced mathematics education in achieving the SDGs. A descriptive survey design was used for the study. Out of the population of the study; one hundred and twenty (120) secondary school mathematics teachers within the metropolitan part of Kano State were randomly sampled. To guide the study, three research questions and one hypothesis were formulated. The instrument used for data collection was a researchers’ designed questionnaire. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha Coefficient. Frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient (at the level of significance of 0.05) were adopted to provide answers to the research questions and hypothesis respectively. The analysis of data indicated that the level of teachers’ awareness on the SDGs is moderate. In addition, the perceived role of mathematics teachers in realizing the SDGs through quality education and gender equality is inevitable. In conclusion, the work recommended that mathematics teachers should be motivated and challenged to prepare and present mathematics lessons to promote the multidisciplinary nature of mathematics which is capable of combatting the challenges facing humanity to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals
Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility Practices on Corporate Income Tax Payment by Telecommunication Companies in Nigeria
This paper examined the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices on corporate income tax payment by telecommunication companies in Nigeria. The population for the study comprises unlisted telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria. The samples for the purpose of this study are firms chosen from the Nigerian multinational telecommunication sector not listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. Annual reports of selected firms formed the source of the secondary data collection for the period 2010 to 2017. A panel logistic regression model was developed to evaluate the influence of CSR on the corporate tax payment. Analysis was conducted with the aid of E-view. The study found that CSR exerted significant influence on the effective tax rate paid by the telecommunication companies in Nigeria. The study recommends that tax authority should properly probe all CSR expenses of telecommunication companies to checkmate inclusion of non-allowable expenses that would reduce tax revenue accruable to the government

The Local and the Global in African Studies: An Essay in Honour of Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju @60
The construction of knowledge in African Studies cannot be detached from the specific spatial contexts within which research, writing, teaching and advocacy take place. Building upon Ayodeji Olukoju’s work on “the spatial dimension” in Lagos’ history, this article argues that in every geographic context, African Studies evolves as an intersection between local and global flows of ideas, politics and capital. While efforts to examine the relationship between the local and the global will often confront a lack of certainty regarding the boundaries of each, we have much to gain from raising questions about each possible vantage point. Drawing on examples from Nigeria, South Africa and Israel, we see how an interrogation of the contested and ambiguous notions of space and place can reveal the politics of knowledge in African Studies. It will be seen that when we critically engage with how spaces are constructed and disputed through the dialogue between “here” and “there,” we can help to ensure that African studies remains relevant and vibrant for years to come
Lexical Variation in Ìkàrẹ́ and Arigidi Dialects of Àkókó: A Critique
Bámigbádé and Sanni (2018) examined lexical variation in Ìkàrẹ́ and Arigidi, two speech forms spoken in Àkókó region of Ondo State, Nigeria, with focus on cognates. They observed that Ìkàrẹ́ and Arigidi share striking similarities and concluded that they are both dialects of Àkókó language. This paper critiques this submission with the aim of correcting the erroneous claims in the work. Based on available evidence from existing literature and linguistic evidence from Àkókó region, the paper argues that there is no language known as Àkókó and by implication, therefore, Ìkàrẹ́ and Arigidi cannot be its dialects. It also establishes that the comparison of Ìkàrẹ́ and Arigidi lexical items which necessitated the search for cognates was vague since the basis for the comparison was neither established nor justified. Relying on data from adult native speakers of Ìkàrẹ́ and Arigidi, the paper presents empirical facts which invalidate the claims of Bámigbádé and Sanni (2018). It concludes that Bamigbade and Sanni’s claims on the linguistic variation and relationship between Ìkàrẹ́ and Arigidi are false and unreliable.
 
Refund Clause of Contributions with Predetermined Interest under CEV Model
This work studies the optimal control strategy for a pension plan with refund clause of contri-butions with predetermined interest under constant elasticity of variance (CEV) in a defined contribution (DC) pension plan. A model which mandates fund managers to refund dead mem-bers’ accumulations with predetermined interest to their next of kin during the accumulation phase is considered. Also considered herein are investments in a bank security and stock where the stock market price is driven by the CEV model and the remaining accumulations are equally distributed between the remaining members. Furthermore, the game theoretic approach is use in establishing an optimization problem from the extended Hamilton Jacobi Bellman (HJB) equation which is a non-linear partial differential equation (PDE). Using mean variance utility function and method of variable separation, explicit solutions of the optimal control strategy and the efficient frontier are obtained. Finally, Numerical simulations and theoretical analysis are used to study the effect of the elasticity parameter β and some other parameters on the optimal control strategy with observations that the elasticity parameter affects the investment strategy of the fund manager significantly. Also, we observed that the optimal control strategy employed by the fund manager is inversely proportional to the risk aversion coefficient, initial fund size, instantaneous volatility and predetermined interest rate but directly proportional to time
On The Closed Form Strategies of an Investor under the CEV and CIR Processes
In this paper, the explicit solutions of the optimal investment plans of an investor with exponential utility function exhibiting constant absolute risk aversion (CARA) under constant elasticity of variance (CEV) and stochastic interest rate is studied. A portfolio comprising of a risk-free asset modelled by the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) process and two risky assets modelled by the CEV process is considered, where the instantaneous volatilities of the two risky assets form a 2 × 2 matrix n = {n p,q } 2×2 such that nn T is positive definite. Using the power transformation and change of variable approach with asymptotic expansion technique, explicit solutions of the optimal investment plans are found. Moreover, numerical simulations are used to study the effects of the interest rate, elasticity parameter, correlation coefficient and the risk averse coefficient on the optimal investment plans
Iterative approximation of split feasibility problem in real Hilbert spaces
In this paper, we propose an iterative algorithm for finding solution of split feasibilty problem involving a λ−strictly pseudo-nonspreading map and asymptotically nonexpansive semigroupsin two real Hilbert spaces. We prove weak and strong convergence theorems using the sequence obtained from the proposed algorithm. Finally, we applied our result to solve a monotoneinclusion problem and present a numerical example to support our result.
