Common Coupled Fixed Point Theorems without Compatibility in Partially Ordered Metric Spaces
A perfect blend of requirements for the proof of common coupled fixed point theorems in partially ordered metric space without the assumptions of (weak) compatibility is accomplished. Previous attempts in this direction involving these assumptions mostly ensure existence of coupled coincidence points. In many existing works in this area, attempt have been made to prove the existence of common coupled fixed points. However, only identity mappings can satisfy the conditions of the theorems. The method of proof presented in this present work is powerful in view of the fact that it guarantees the existence of common coupled fixed points without the imposition of (weak) compatibility conditions and identity mappings. To illustrate the results, an example is provided.
MANAGEMENT OF FITNESS AND HEALTH CENTRES FOR EFFECTIVE SERVICE DELIVERY
The changing lifestyles and the general awareness on the importance of healthy living in modern day Nigerian societies have suggested more needs and demands for appropriate settings to actualize optimal fitness for the body. Various centres are being established for this purpose but for efficiency in meeting the objective of their establishment, these centres must be effectively managed. This paper aims to fulfill this gap and suggests a pragmatic approach to managing health and fitness centres. The basic requirements for the operation of a fitness and health centre are examined to identify ways and strategies of managing and supervising fitness and health centres effectively. It examined steps for setting up clientele services mainly for effective service delivery; organogram for the operation of good management; typical rules and regulations; identified the constraints involved; and made provision for typical personnel that will drive the management of the fitness and health centres with a view to maximizing financial benefits offered in present day awareness of seeking wellness, healthy lifestyles, and longevity
A Comparative Analysis of the Impact of Mergers and Acquisitions on the Cost Savings of Nigerian Banks
A comparison of mergers and acquisitions throughout the two phases of Nigerian bank recapitalization, as well as their consequences on Nigerian banks' ability to save costs, was investigated in this study. The study critically appraises the implications of mergers and acquisitions on cost savings for the Nigerian banking sector over the two phases of the banking sector recapitalization process. The panel data estimation technique, which takes heterogeneity of the sample units into consideration, by allowing for individual bank-specific variables, was employed. Mergers and acquisitions have a favourable influence on bank cost savings in Nigeria, according to the findings. Further macroeconomic reforms, according to the report, should rely primarily on interest rate operating procedures, with the only goal of implementing the law of one market in both domestic and foreign money markets
The Impact of Vodcast Use on the Performance of Undergraduate Students in Computer Programming
With the growing number of university students currently taking introductory computer programming courses in Nigerian universities, sizable amounts of lecturers’ time is spent on course development and instruction. This puts a strain on the already limited supply of lecturers and resource and also preventing individualized attention to students and hands-on practical. This has led to a decline in the performance of undergraduate students in computer programming. To improve the quality of computer programming education, appropriate computer-based technologies must be engaged. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of vodcasting as a supplementary tool on the performance of undergraduate students in computer programming. A post-test control-group quantitative design of experiments was used to determine if there was a statistically significant difference between the performance measured by assessment scores of second year university students enrolled in computer programming II course who received supplementary content-specific vodcasts in addition to lectures (VL group) and those who received conventional lectures only (L group). The population of the study was drawn from the 272 students who enrolled for computer programming II course (CMP 212) during the 2018-2019 academic session at Federal University Dutsinma, Nigeria. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-tests and Spearman’s correlation were used to analyze the data in answer to the research questions posed. While exploring the socio-economic characteristics of the sample population, a test on the scores of both genders showed no statistically significant difference in the VL scores between the female and the male learners at 95% confidence level and a p value of .805. Both males and females have the intellectual capacity to equally excel if given the right treatment. The second finding revealed a weak positive relationship between the students’ performance and their program of study. Though the relationship is weak, the variables can be further investigated. A t-test equality of means showed that the use of vodcasts as a supplementary material yielded positive outcome with a value of t=14.546, p<.0001 and a mean difference of 21.772. Students’ perception on the use of vodcasts was also obtained through a qualitative survey which revealed that 70% of the students agree that vodcasts are useful in enhancing their performance and learning of computer programming. Therefore, it can be concluded that vodcasts are valuable teaching tools for students undertaking undergraduate programming courses. It is recommended that universities and other tertiary institutions should adopt the use of vodcasts not just in teaching programming but also in the teaching of other courses
Relationship between Talent Management and Organisational Performance in Nigerian Deposit Money Banks
This study examined the relationship between talent management and organizational performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria, using Zenith Bank Plc. as study sampling frame. Survey research design was adopted and 140 respondents were selected using stratified sampling technique, to represent the different cadres of employees. The data collected were analysed with descriptive statistics while hypotheses were tested with Pearson product moment correlation. Talent attraction, talent retention, learning and development and career management were, respectively, correlated with organizational performance. Findings show that talent attraction, talent retention, respectively, have significant relationship with organisational performance. It is concluded that talent management has significant positive relationship with organisational performance and recommended that banks should improve on talent attraction to maintain adequate level of manpower as that will enhance organisational performance. Bank management should retain talented interns, enhance career management, and learning and development of staff because they contribute positively to organisational performance
THE FACTORS INFLUENCING READING HABITS ON PERCEIVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF SUDENTS IN FEDERAL COLLEGE OF FORESTRY JOS PLATEAU STATE.
This study investigated the factors influencing reading habits on perceived academic performance of students in Federal College of Forestry Jos Plateau State. The study used descriptive survey design. Stratified random sampling technique was adopted in selecting fifty seven (57) students from five departments of the college as sample size for the study. Data were gathered using a researcher designed instrument tagged “Factors Influencing Reading Habits on Perceived Academic Performance of Students’ in Federal College of Forestry Jos Plateau State (FIRHPAPSFCFJP)”. Data obtained from the field were presented through the use of frequency tables and simple percentages. The findings of this study showed respondents mainly read for assignment and course work, examination, self-development, and improvement in spoken and written English. The type of materials mostly read, include newspapers/magazines, novels and textbooks. While inadequate information in the library, lack of interesting reading materials, peer pressure and Social media e.g. Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, are factors of personality that militate against students reading habit. Based on these findings, the researchers recommended that students should be motivated and encouraged by their lecturers to read different information resources and academic libraries should endeavour to provide adequate information materials
K-Step Block Implicit Adams Method for Approximate Solution of Initial Value Problems using Eulerian Polynomial
This paper constructs and applied a class of k-step Block Implicit Adams Method (BIAM) for the integration of first order initial value problems in which the Eulerian polynomial is employed as the basis function .The BIAM for the initial value problems is constructed via multistep collocation techniques and applied in block structure as simultaneous numerical integration which makes it self-starting. An analysis of BIAM shows that the proposed method is zero stable, consistent, convergence and A-stable. Application of the BIAM on some standard ordinary differential problems revealed that BIAM is efficient and a good approximating scheme
Impacts of Slips on Peristaltic flow and Heat transfer of micropolar fluids in an asymmetric channel
The study of peristaltic motion is an area of increasing research interest in industrial, biological and engineering interest. In this study, effects of slips on the peristaltic flow and heat transfer of micropolar fluids in an asymmetric channel are investigated analytically. The developed non-linear coupled partial differential equations are converted into non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation. The ordinary differential equations are solved for the cases when the thermal viscosity parameter is zero and non-zero. Exact solutions are gotten for the cases of linear and non-linear when the thermal viscosity parameter is zero and non-zero, respectively. The obtain results depict that viscous and thermal slips enhancesthe flow of the bolus as it is being transported through the digestive system. Also, the effect of microrotation helps in reducing the pressure gradient for the flow
Water Challenges in Post-Colonial Ikorodu Area of Lagos State, 1967-1999
The fact that much of the global space is covered by water has been established by scientists and hydrologists. However, despite this abundant availability, accessibility to safe drinking water has been a major problem confronting different parts of the world. This study examines the history of water infrastructure and challenges in Ikorodu Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State. Although the study endeavours to historicise some of the colonial policies and programmes geared towards water infrastructure in the area, it specifically discusses the issue of water challenges and its impact on the socio-economic development of Ikorodu and environs during the post-colonial period. Adopting the qualitative research method and historical approach to data collection and interpretation, the study reveals that water availability and supply in Ikorodu LGA were inadequate with consequential effects on the socio-economic activities during the period under review. It recommends that government should endeavour to partner with non-governmental institutions to revive and increase the capacity of water-works and repair moribund water infrastructures towards ensuring adequate water supply within the Ikorodu LGA
The Ethos of Homage-paying and the Assessment of Ethical Issues in Yorùbá Verbal Arts
Characteristically, what is foremost in the mind of a typical Yorùbá artiste, whether as oníṣe ̣́-ọnà, òṣèré, apohùn, or òǹkọrin, is to conventionally follow the cultural norms and values of paying homage before embarking on his or her oral performance. However, some artistes, and a number of people, especially the contemporary youths in the modern Yorùbá society seem not to have a thorough understanding of the significance of Yorùbá concept of homage. This is often due to ‘civilisation’, or self-acclaimed knowledge and a sense of personal achievements. Consequently, the recurrent phenomenon of disrespect and disregard for the Yorùbá norms and values is on the increase. With the present ethical problems, a well-organised Yorùbá society might remain a mere proclamation unless the ethical issues of respect are tackled. This paper, therefore, attempts a critical examination of the moral issues involved in Yorùbá homage-paying using seven explicit Yorùbá proverbial sayings on homage, selected Ifá verses, and two oral genres as case studies. The data on homage themes in the selected texts were carefully identified and subjected to literary analysis using the ethical determinism approach. Findings show that the early Yorùbá professional artistes had clear understanding on how germane the Yorùbá concept of homage is in human relation. Findings also show that, in virtually every modern-day community, evidence of moral decadence on disrespect and insubordination to societal norms and values are prevalent. The study makes its contribution by expounding societal knowledge on the relevance of homage in Yorùbá verbal arts and culture as evidenced in the data
