Imagery in Fuji Music: Saheed Osupa as an Examplar
Existing studies on Fuji music have investigated the genre and its artistes from the angles of origin, market value, invectives, and propaganda. However, its artistic deployment of imagery for communicative purposes has not enjoyed robust scholarly attention. This study investigates the use of imageries in selected live performances of Saheed Osupa, a popular Fuji musician, using Charteris-Black’s critical metaphor and Mey’s pragmatic acts theories. The study finds that imagery is deployed in Osupa’s music for the communicative purposes of self-exaltation and us-them dichotomy. He sauced his performances with food, animal, music, and celestial imageries to realize the themes. He also used other figures of speech such as pun, hyperbole and personification within the imageries to vivify the themes. The study concludes that imagery serves both artistic and thematic functions and is also used to reflect ideological stances in the music of Saheed Osupa
AN ASSESSMENT OF CAUSES AND COPING STRATEGIES OF THE SHORTAGE OF MATHEMATICS TEACHERS IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN SOKOTO METROPOLIS
This paper investigates the causes and coping strategies of the shortage of mathematics teachers in senior secondary schools in the Sokoto Metropolis. A descriptive survey design was adopted. Two research questions were answered in the study. The study's population consisted of 135 mathematics teachers from 35 public senior secondary schools in Sokoto, and the sample was representative of the population, therefore all the responses were used. The instrument used for collection of data consists of an 18-item adopted questionnaire titled “Teacher Shortage and Coping Strategies Questionnaire (TSCSQ)”. The test-retest approach was used to pilot test the instrument, and it yielded a reliability coefficient index of 0.83. Based on the findings of the study, it was among other findings that over workload, high student enrolment, poor funding of education, and poor working conditions were the foremost causes of the shortage of mathematics teachers in senior secondary schools in Sokoto metropolis. It was then recommended that the government should train and employ more qualified mathematics teachers and provide well-ventilated classrooms with teaching aids and furnished staff rooms
Semantics of Yoruba Mass Nouns: A Preliminary Report
There is a dearth of in-depth work on the semantics of mass nouns in Yoruba language. Also, measurement nouns that are required in many languages are optional with mass nouns in Yoruba. This paper gives an insight on the semantics of mass nouns in Yoruba by studying why Yoruba mass nouns combine directly with numerals without losing their grammaticality, even when there is no intervening measurement noun (MSN) between them and the quantifying elements (numerals/ quantifier). It discusses the mass/count noun distinction showing their interpretations with emphasis on contexts in which the presence of measurement nouns is obligatory. Furthermore, it establishes that different readings of mass nouns in Yoruba can be realized depending on the predicate type. In particular, the occurrence of mass nouns with certain predicate types results in ambiguity. The paper concludes that, to reduce ambiguity, the use of MSN with mass nouns when the quantity of such mass nouns is required in Yoruba is obligatory
Digitalisation of Worship: Assessing the Effectiveness of Christian Worship via Social Media Platforms during the Covid-19 Lockdown in Nigeria
In John chapter 4 verse 21-23, Jesus Christ envisaged a time when true worship will not really be defined by physical gathering but by a simple act of believers worshipping in spirit and in truth. While the statement was meant for a Samaritan woman, the reality of having to worship in spirit and in truth played out during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown. The fact that believers could not gather physically paved way for digitalisation of worship. This study assesses the effectiveness of digital worship for Christians in Nigeria during the Covid-19 pandemic when services had to be held live on digital platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Zoom. Drawing from both primary and secondary data sources, the study finds that digitalization of worship was made effective by an already entrenched Christian-based faith that God is
Omnipresent and assessable even through the use of their electronic devices. It also finds that miracles did not dwindle in spite of lack of physical contact. The study concludes that contrary to predictions that flexibility introduced during the Covid-19 lockdown would cause attrition of Christian brethren, resumption of church activities in Nigeria have grown stronger. This could be perceived as the outcome of the strengthening of Christian faith via social media worship during the lockdown. The use of social media as a channel of worship and ministration during the period of Covid-19-induced restriction reinforces the existential and transcendental nature of religion. The religion adherents deployed digital technologies to demonstrate their spirituality and faith during that period of global health emergency, navigating the challenges posed by poor infrastructure and relatively low internet accessibility in a poorly governed African context. 
A Critique of the Yorùbá Section in "Vocabulary of Primary Science and Mathematics in Nine Nigerian Languages"
In response to the National Policy on Education which states that children should be taught in the first three years of education in the language of their immediate environment, NERDC (1980) published A Glossary of Technical Terminology for Primary Schools in Nigeria. The book is a glossary of terms in mathematics, science and technology in nine Nigerian languages, one of which is Yoruba. However, not only are the terminologies presented in the book insufficient for science terms in the lower primary, some of them are not precise enough to capture the notions and ideas encapsulated in the existing English terms. This paper takes a critical look at the aforementioned publication and propose adequate terms for the observed imprecisions. In addition to making reference to dictionary of science, teachers of science at the primary school level were consulted for opinions based on their teaching experiences on the definition of terms to formulate adequate and precise Yoruba language terms that will portray the exact meaning of the existing English terms. It is hoped that the proposed terms will serve as guides to teachers and learners of science subjects using Yoruba as the language of instruction
EFFECT OF PEDAGOGICAL CONTENT KNOWLEDGE ON TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EFFECTIVE TEACHING OF HISTORY IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN SOUTHWEST NIGERIA
This study investigated the effect of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) on teachers’ professional development and effective teaching on learning of history in senior secondary schools in Southwest Nigeria. This study was guided by Pedagogical Content Knowledge Model of Grossman (1990). The study answered 6 research questions and tested 4 hypotheses. The study adopted descriptive survey and quasi-experimental research design. The sample size of the study consisted of 69 and 12 History teachers randomly selected from 3 states out of 6 states in South-West, Nigeria. The research instruments used were Teachers’ Questionnaire Level of Awareness and Possession of Pedagogical Content Knowledge, Teachers’ Questionnaire Assessment of PCK Package, Students’ Questionnaire Assessment Feedback on PCK Package, History Achievement Test, Interview Schedule for History Teachers, Observation Schedule, and Checklist on Availability of Teaching Materials. The multi-stage sampling technique was adopted. The research questions were answered using mean while hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the teachers’ level of awareness and possession of PCK was very low. The finding also revealed lack of effective teachers as a major factor in the performance gap among students. The study also established that instructional resources are not available for the teaching and learning of history. The study recommended that Pedagogical Content Knowledge should be infused into the history curriculum for Nigerian secondary schools to enhance the teaching and learning of history to boost the performance of student
MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE WITH VACCINATION
he continued reoccurrences of Ebola virus disease (EVD) among human population has given a great cause for concern. This paper studied the impact of vaccination on the transmission dynamics of EVD by constructing a deterministic model. A threshold quantity called basic reproduction number, 0, is computed and used to discuss the persistent and eradication of disease in the population. The local and global stability of the disease-free equilibrium are established to show the asymptotic behavior of the infection. The stability analysis shown that the disease–free equilibrium is locally and globally asymptotically stable whenever0 < 1 and unstable whenever 0 > 1. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis is carried out to ascertain the model parameters that have high impact on0 for intervention planning. The sensitivity result shown that vaccination rate has high impact compare on 0, as the rate of vaccination increases, the disease reduces in the population. The numerical simulations of the model are carried out using fourth order Runge–Kutta scheme in order to investigate the dynamics of EVD in the presence of vaccination. The result shown the important of vaccination in eliminating EVD in the population. It indicates that if a good proportion of the population are vaccinated with a vaccine that does not wane off on time, it will reduce the number of infected individuals in the population and this will help to eradication of EVD in the population
ITERATIVE INTERVAL FORMULAS FOR SYSTEM OF EQUATION IN TOPOLOGICAL SPACE
Given a map F : X Y acting between two topologicalspaces X and Y , it is pertinent to ask if the path from a point X to a point Y is a closed path, and under what conditions can the topological space from X to a topological space Y be said to be contractible to a point?We give answers to this poised question using the concept of hemi-continuity for F-differentiable function and the Banach Fixed point theorem. Furthermore, solving the resulting linear system of equation for the map F : R n R n using either Guassian or LU decomposition, we againask under what conditioncan wesay that Guassian elimination method or LU Factorization cannot compute exactly the inverse of the matrix.In this paper, wegive such errorbounds for the LU Factorization and the resulting residual error estimate for system of equation.We realized our solutions to systems of nonlinear equations using the interval LU Factorization, the interval Gauss-Siedeliteration and the Krawczyk’s interval methodwith guaranteed error bounds. A ray tracing implicit surface for the obtained solution is described and a normalized distance between imaging and distortion of a ray tracing implicit surface in the obtained solutions from the nonlinear system is computed
SCIENCE TEACHERS’ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING IN KWARA STATE
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is playing an increasing role in many areas of activity, there are indications that it is not always incorporated into the educational process by teachers as productively as possible. The purpose of this study was to investigate science teachers’ attitudes towards the use of Information and Communication Technology for teaching in Kwara State. The study was descriptive research of the survey method using stratified, proportional, purposive and random sampling techniques to draw a sample of 200 (130 males and 70 females) science teachers from ten secondary schools in Kwara State, Nigeria. The main research instrument employed for data collection was a researcher-designed questionnaire. One research question was raised, and four research hypotheses were formulated and tested. The research question was answered using mean and standard deviation. Hypotheses one to three were tested using a t-test while hypothesis five was tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), all hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 significant level, and the statistical tool used for analysis is Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The findings of the study indicated that science teachers’ attitude towards the use of ICT for teaching is positive since a majority of the mean value of items on the table were greater than the 3.0 benchmark, and all the teachers’ variables considered in the study have no influence on science teachers’ attitude towards the use of ICT for teaching it was recommended among others that teacher training and professional development-oriented policies should be put in place to support ICT
On Full Fuzzy Parameterized Soft Set
Some Years back, researchers made attempts in trying to fuzzify set of parameters of soft set. In this paper, we consider a review of “fuzzy parameterized soft set", and improve it byintroducing a way to fully fuzzify the set of parameters of soft set. We define the concept “full fuzzy parametrized soft set" and study some of its basic operations. We also illustrate theconcept with example
