Solution to Nonlinear Wave and Evolution Equations by Direct Algebraic Method
This work presents a dynamic and systematic step-by-step method for constructing solitarywave solutions for non-dissipative nonlinear evolution and wave equations from the real exponentialsolutions of the underlying linear equations. The work reviewed the direct algebraic method initially proposed by Hereman et. al. (1985) and employed the methodology in solving Benjamin - Bona - Mahony (RLW) equation and Joseph - Egri (TRLW) equation. By the method which involves using a traveling frame of reference to convert the PDE into an ODE and solving the ODE by algebraic processes; we obtained solutions for the Benjamin - Bona - Mahony and the Joseph - Egri equations. This method was found to be efficient in constructing a single solitary wave solution for non-dissipative evolution equations. The results obtained inthis paper are in agreement with those obtained using other methods
EXTENT OF UTILIZATION OF PLAY METHOD OF TEACHING IN PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN AWKA EDUCATION ZONE
This study focused on the Extent of Utilization of the Play Method of Teaching in Pre- Primary Schools in the Awka Educational Zone of Anambra State. The work particularly stressed the availability and utilization of material resources; that is, instructional materials otherwise called teaching aids and the use of the play method of teaching. Four research questions and four null hypotheses were formulated. A descriptive survey design was employed. A developed questionnaire was used for data collection. The targeted population for the study consisted of thirty-two (32) head teachers and one hundred and sixty (160) teachers in Awka Education Zone, and this number (total of 192) was selected through stratified random sampling. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using percentages and mean/standard deviation. Z-test was employed in testing the formulated null hypotheses. The results indicate that instructional materials needed in carrying out the play teaching methods in Pre-Schools are not readily available. Due to a lack of instructional materials, both utilization and effectiveness were hindered. Hence teachers with the necessary skills and expertise in the use of the play method of teaching were limited in their performance. Some educational implication of the findings was discussed, and some recommendations were proposed for the Government, such as providing enough requisite instructional materials for the teachers
Law Enforcement Capabilities and COVID-19 Safety Precautions: Synergy for Health Emergency Amelioration for Global Peace and Security
Law enforcement is crucial for national peace and security; and it is hereby defined as the various organs of government that are involved in ensuring compliance with the laws of the land. The outbreak of the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2019 served as a litmus test for the efficacy of various law enforcement agencies. This manifested in the enforcement of safety protocols such as lockdown of social-economic activities, washing of hands in private and public places, wearing of face masks, maintenance of social distancing, banning of social gatherings and other inherent social safety procedures. Aside the loss of lives, domestic violence and other security challenges, lack of established law enforcement capabilities worsened peoples` conditions during the period. Therefore, this paper assesses a significant relationship between law enforcement capabilities and COVID-19 safety precautions for achieving global peace and security. The paper adopts qualitative research method; data were sourced secondarily through the content analysis of peer-review journals, edited text-books, and credible online resources. The findings showed that effective enforcement of the COVID-19 safety precautions will reduce the spread of COVID-19, and this enhances global peace and security. The paper recommends positive collaborations among law enforcement agencies coupled with good governance to tackle COVID-19 for global peace and order. Ultimately, this paper will be useful to individuals, government at various levels, World Health Organisations and other stakeholders involved in Corona Virus monitoring and mitigation
ASSESSMENT OF DIFFERENT STRATEGIES OF CURRICULUM INNOVATIONS AND EFFECTIVE DISSEMINATION OF CURRICULUM INNOVATIONS IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN SOUTH-WEST, NIGERIA
Effective dissemination of curriculum innovation using appropriate strategies is required for curriculum improvement with the aim of empowering the citizens. Thus, this paper assessed different strategies of curriculum innovations and effective dissemination of curriculum innovations in Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) in South-West, Nigeria. Four objectives with corresponding research questions were raised and answered in this study. Also, two hypotheses were tested. A descriptive survey research design was adopted in the study. A sample of 723 participants were chosen from thirty (30) SSS in three randomly selected states (Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo) in South-West, Nigeria. Questionnaires were used to collect data from the participants. The data were analysed using frequency counts, percentage, mean, standard deviation and independent t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that the teachers and the principals were aware of different dissemination strategies available in SSS in Southwest, Nigeria to a large extent; the students believed their teachers’ use of new materials for teaching curriculum innovation is low; and the agencies of curriculum innovation are not effective in disseminating curriculum innovation materials to SSS in Southwest, Nigeria. The study concluded that curriculum innovations are not disseminated and implemented effectively in SSS in South-West, Nigeria. The study recommended among others that: curriculum innovative agencies should ensure that students like other stakeholders (teachers and principals) are aware of any innovation at the SSS level using appropriate dissemination strategies; and teachers should be encouraged to increase their frequency of the use of innovation strategies for the dissemination of curriculum innovation in SSS
PARAMETRIC MODELLING USING BAYESIAN APPROACH
In this paper, we focus on the applicability of a Bayesian analysis to survival time of breast cancer data by assuming that the survival timesfollow a Weibull distribution. This study determines a method of estimating the model parameters in survival analysis. The proportional hazard model isused to relate the hazard function to the covariate values for an individual. The scale parameter of a Weibull distribution is used to incorporate the covariates of the individual and the linear predictor is expressed as a logarithmic link function of the hazard multiplier. The Bayesian approach to survival analysis is used via the Just another Gibbs sampler (RJAGS) program in R language and R functions was used to calculate the prognostic index as a linear predictor on an index from 0 to 100 which is used for predicting the outcome of the patients on the basis of the clinical information. The posterior summaries of interest which were derived from the posterior distribution are provided. The results from the posterior distribution obtained from this study can be used in the calculation of the risk value of the breast cancer patient. Thus, the risk value helps the researcher to have an assess to the patients exposure to breast cancer. The Parametric model was seen to be a very attractive option of modelling and the ease of interpretation of parameters is of benefit especially for clinicians
SIZE AND OWNERSHIP AS DETERMINANTS OF OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT IN THE NIGERIAN INSURANCE INDUSTRY
Operational risk management (ORM) is the ongoing management of risks brought on by human behaviour, internal systems, processes, and events outside of one's control. Increase in the intensity of performed financial operations, globalization and rapidly changing technologies have enhanced operational risks. The insurance industry is required by regulatory requirements to manage operational risks. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship of size and ownership as determinants of operational risk management in the Nigerian insurance industry. A quantitative approach was adopted using survey design in collecting data through a structured questionnaire. Sample population is the insurance companies in Nigeria. Stratified sampling was utilized in selecting the sample size of 20 insurance companies. Respondents are employees within the management cadre and risk management department drawn from the 7,036 employees of the selected companies. The data was empirically examined by use of descriptive statistics and inferential analysis. Generalized linear model (GLM) was employed in testing the hypotheses. The findings suggest that size is not a determinant while ownership type is a determinant of the practice of ORM in the Nigerian insurance industry. The findings of the study have an importance to the regulatory authorities in assessing its supervisory role and insurance companies. Further research exploring the relationship between the factors of ORM practice, and the value ORM contributes to the insurance industry
FINANCIAL LITERACY AND CULTURAL BELIEFS AS CAUSATUM FOR SPURN OF HOME INSURANCE DEMAND IN NIGERIA
The need to educate the general public on the importance of home insurance has remain on the front burner in recent years. This paper hereby identified the challenges associated with the demand for home insurance. A well-constructed questionnaire was used to collect the study's data. The respondents included 500 legitimate tenants and landlords who were chosen at random from the various stratum divisions of Lagos. Hypotheses were tested using the regression method at 5% significance level. This study revealed that economic status of the insured, cultural beliefs, and financial literacy have significant effect on the demand for home insurance. This paper revealed that there is not enough knowledge on the public's need for home insurance. Hence, the study recommended that Insurance companies ought to engage with consumers frequently through radio, television, and newspaper advertisements and develop cutting-edge products that cater to the needs, wants, and circumstances of each individual customer, invariably fostering customer attraction, satisfaction, and retention
