Predicting Malaria Incident Using Hybrid SARIMA-LSTM Model

    No full text
Malaria remains a significant global health concern, particularly in regions with high transmission rates. Accurate and timely prediction of malaria incidence can assist health authorities and policymakers in implementing effective prevention and control measures. However, because data are in limited supply, most of the relevant research studies concentrated on monthly or quarterly data. This study proposes a hybrid forecasting model combining Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks to predict malaria incidence. The hybrid approach enhances accuracy and robustness by capturing historical data’s temporal dependencies and seasonal patterns. The methodology involves collecting historical malaria incidence data, preprocessing it, fitting SARIMA models, extracting residuals, and training LSTM neural networks on residuals. These models capture nonlinear and complex data components, making accurate predictions and capturing long-term dependencies. After training, the hybrid SARIMA-LSTM model is created by combining the predictions from both models. This integration ensures that both the temporal and nonlinear patterns are considered, leading to improved forecast accuracy. Finally, the model is evaluated using appropriate performance metrics, such as mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) or root mean square error (RMSE). The hybrid SARIMA-LSTM model outperforms SARIMA and LSTM in predicting malaria incidence and its accuracy was evaluated through comparisons with other forecasting methods. It captures temporal and nonlinear patterns, enabling timely resource allocation, intervention planning, and proactive measures for improved control and prevention efforts

Fixed point of multivalued ρ−contractive mappings and their comparison in modular function spaces

    No full text
This paper presents a comprehensive survey on some multivalued ρ−contractive type mappings in the framework of modular function spaces, in which case, existence of fixed points are proved and the various ρ−contractive type mappings considered are compared in the framwork of modular function spaces. Our results complement the results obtained on normed and metric spaces in literature. Also, our method of proof serves as a guide to obtain several similar improved results for nonexpansive, pseudo-contractive and accretive type mappings

The Cauchy Problem for Nonlinear Higher Order Partial Differential Equations Using Projected Differential Transform Method

    No full text
This study applies the Projected Differential Transform Method (PDTM) to solve nonlinear higher-order partial differential equations (PDEs). The Projected Differential Transform (PDT) series solutions converge to exact solutions with relative ease. Numerical problems of fourth- and sixth-order nonlinear hyperbolic equations and nonlinear wave-like equations with variable coefficients are solved to show that PDTM can efficiently provide exact solutions for nonlinear PDEs of higher order with initial conditions. The results demonstrate that the PDTM is exceptionally accurate, efficient, and reliable and that it can be applied to many other types of nonlinear higher-order PDEs. Compared to the Modified Decomposition Method, the Homotopy Analysis Approach, and the Homotopy Perturbation Method, this method significantly reduces numerical computations and outperforms in accurac

E-BANKING SERVICE EFFICIENCY AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IN THE NIGERIAN BANKING SECTOR

    No full text
The paradigm shift in how banking services are done all across the world and Nigeria inclusive has made the increasing use of electronic banking delivery channels inevitable in the banking industry across the world. This trend became unavoidable as global financial practises revolve around online banking, hence its adoption in Nigeria. This paradigm shift has not only provided complete functions of operations but also advanced their electronic service efficiency. This study investigates how well the efficiency of e-banking services will bring about satisfaction among customers of commercial banks in Lagos state, Nigeria. This study adopted cross-sectional survey method using a descriptive research design. A web-based survey instrument was used to elicit information from 217 respondents from an infinite population of bank customers using key informant sampling to draw an initial sample and later snowball sampling to further reach out to respondents. The results obtained showed that bank customers were satisfied with the service delivery of their banks. Since the banking industry is highly competitive, it is therefore recommended that banks must ensure that there is consistency in the delivery of electronic banking services. It is also recommended that policymakers in the sector should ensure that service quality programmes be strictly followed and implemented effectively so that they will not be seen as only focussing on the bank’s objective of profits; but must also look into satisfying the needs of the customers as well

EFFECTS OF DRAMATIZATION AND MASTERY LEARNING APPROACH ON PUPILS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN VALUE ORIENTATION IN SOCIAL STUDIES

    No full text
National Policy on Education in Nigeria is based on the development of individual talent, skills and knowledge and the integration of the individual into the society. However, dramatizations teaching method and Mastery learning approach as useful strategies for inculcating the core values of Nigeria have not been utilized. This portends serious dangers not only for education, but also for the learners. This study examined the effects of dramatization and mastery learning approach on pupils’ achievement in value orientation in social studies. The study raised three research questions and three research hypotheses. It adopted the pre-test, posttest non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental research design and a 3×2 factorial representation. Instructional strategy was manipulated at three levels and gender at two levels. The population for this study comprised four thousand and fifty (4,050) JSS 2 pupils from Ika South and Ika Northeast Local Government Areas of Delta State. Five hundred and fifty JSS pupils served as the sample of the study. The instrument used to collect data was Achievement Test in Value Orientation (ATVO). The instrument was deemed reliable at 0.89 for ATVO. All tests were carried out at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed among others, that dramatization method and the mastery learning approach had a statistically significant effect on pupils’ achievement in value orientation in social studies. The gender variable did show a significant effect on pupils’ achievement in value orientation in social studies. The two-way interaction effect of treatment and gender was significant on pupils’ achievement in value orientation in social studies. Treatment accounted for 67.6% of the variation observed in pupils’ achievement in value orientation in social studies. The study recommended junior secondary school teachers should make effort to embrace the adoption of dramatization teaching method and mastery learning approach in teaching value orientation in social studies in Nigeria

The study was conducted to examine the difference between social media addicts and social media non-addicts based on academic achievement, and to find out whether there is significant gender difference in terms of addiction to social media tools both in relation to students of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto. The research design used was a descriptive survey of correlational type. The total population of the study was 6, 120 students (as obtained from the Registry unit of the college at the time of the research) made up of the entire NCE II (Level II) students of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto. Stratified, random and proportionate sampling techniques were employed to arrive at a sample of 2, 233 from six different schools (faculties) in the college. The final sample of the study derived from the Research Advisors table (2006) was 333. Two instruments for data collection were used: Students' Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPA's) as academic achievement, and Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) Adapted by Al-Menayes (2015). Out of the 333 total sample size, 235 respondents were identified as social media addicts, 98 as non-addicts. Two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level on SPSS. Both hypotheses were tested on independent sample t-test. The results indicated no significant gender difference because of social media addiction, and no significant difference between social media addicts and social media non-addicts in terms of academic achievement. Based on these results, it was recommended that educational institutions should continue to ban students’ use of social media devices during examinations; and should promote meaningful use of social media by lecturers in conducting certain academic activities along with their students to save time and resources

A modified iterative Method for Solving Split variational Inclusion Problems and Fixed Point Problems for Nonexpansive Semigroup

    No full text
In this paper, we introduce and study a modified iterative method for approximating a commonsolution of split variational inclusion problems and fixed point problems for nonexpansivesemigroup in real Hilbert spaces. We prove that the proposed method converges strongly to thesolution of the mentioned problem under some mild assuptions. A new inertial extrapolationis introduced which is known to speed up the rate of covergence of iterative algorithms. Ourmethod uses self-adaptive stepsize that is generated at each iteration and does not depend normof the bounded linear operator which is difficult in practice. We give numerical illustrationsof the proposed scheme in comparison with other existing methods in the literature to furtherjustify the applicability and efficiency of our proposed algorithm

    No full text
Teaching a foreign language is a great challenge for teachers, especially in Nigeria. Many teachers still struggle to teach reading skills and lack knowledge of different approaches to teach reading. The resultant effects are pupils who can’t read or struggle to read, loss of self-esteem, and motivation to learn. It is against this background that this study investigated the impact of a synthetic multisensory approach on the reading skills development in phonemic awareness of pupils in lower basic schools. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design. A total of 476 pupils and 20 teachers were involved in the study using multistage sampling procedure. The study examined the main effect of treatment, and school type on the lower basic pupils' reading skills development in phonemic awareness. This instrument -Phonemic Awareness test (PAT), was used to collect data. Data were analysed for research questions using frequency count, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. While the hypotheses formulated were analysed quantitatively using Analysis of Covariance and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The major findings revealed that SMA-JPRB enhanced the reading skills development of pupils in phonemic awareness. The study recommends the integration of SMA into the teaching of English Studies in lower basic schools. KEYWORDS: synthetic multisensory approach, phonemic awareness. &nbsp
