    Entropy Optimization and Heat Transfer Analysis of MHD Heat Generating Fluid Flow Through an Anisotropic Porous Parallel Wall Channel: An Analytic Solution

    This communication carries out an analytic study on entropy optimization and heat spreading of an electrically conducting Newtonian fluid flow within permeable and parallel wall channel in a horizontal orientation. The medium is anisotropic porous passage and permeated by a uniform transverse magnetic field. Internal heat generation and heating friction are considered. Relevance and applications dwell in underground sewage and catalytic transportation as well as in liquid flow rheostats and sensors. Appropriate scaling alterations are administered to convert the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) to ordinary differential equations (ODEs). By means of the Laplace’s transform approach the solutions via basic flow controlling parameters values are evaluated exactly. Fluid dimensionless velocity and temperature distributions are sorted out based on the selected figures of embedded parameters, and their impacts examined quantitatively and studied in detail via graphs on heat transfer rate, Bejan number and entropy generation factor. Among others, our findings predict that suction-based viscosity parameter, magnetic and anisotropic permeability parameters retract the dimensionless axial velocity, whereas the entropy generation increases significantly by improved viscous dissipation. Escalation of fluid temperature is predetermined by medium anisotropy. Additionally, further outcomes unveil that not only Peclet and Reynolds based suctions fail to achieve an impact on the entropy generation but also the heat generation at the channel enterline

    Queuing Model for Hospital Congestion with Application

    The emergence of Covid-19 posed a great health challenge worldwide. Health care facilities were stretched beyond limit, with no space to admit new critical patients. This motivated this study, which sought to understand the dynamics around queues, particularly in hospitals. The main objective was to analyze the queuing process between the Emergency Department (ED) and Internal Wards (IW) at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, in order to understand patient flow with the view to minimizing congestion. The study modelled the process as a queuing system with heterogeneous server pools, where the pools represent the wards and servers are beds. The system was analysed under various queue-architectures and routing policies, in search for fairness and optimum operational performance so as to enhance the level of access to health care in the facility. The existing models such as Kendall’s, Erlang’s, Little’s Law and De Bruin’s models were used to analyze various ward/unit operating characteristics and sufficient bed count was determined to guarantee certain access standards to care. The results indicated that there were long queues arising from blockage which led to higher chances of patients waiting for long hours for services in the facility. To solve the problem the study proposes reassignment of beds within the Hospital wards so that any arriving patient and those waiting for services are examined and allocated beds immediately. This will reduce the long waiting time for services and give the hospital sufficient time in daily operations

    The COVID-19 outbreak caused a major shift in the field of education, as it moved from the conventional traditional classroom to an online virtual classroom, which was novel to both teachers and students. This significant change has emphasized the need for incorporating technology in education, and teachers are now expected to adapt to the new mode of teaching. In this regard, the study investigates lecturers’ perceptions towards the integration of ICT for teaching in Nigeria during the post-COVID-19 era. A descriptive survey research design was employed for the quantitative analysis of 138 Lecturers from the three federal colleges of education in Southwest Nigeria. The findings of the study present a constructive summary of teachers’ perception towards the integration of ICT in teaching and learning in the post-covid era. The results revealed that lecturers had a positive perception towards integrating ICT into their teaching activities because it increases their productivity in lesson presentation, makes learning more concrete and interesting, enables them to manage instructional time very well, makes learning more engaging and diverse as well as helping students understand what is been taught. The finding also shows that lecturers do not have adequate ICT tools such as online assessment tools, video collaboration tools, internet, presentation software, learning management systems and interactive whiteboards readily available for effective teaching and learning. Significant differences in perception were found among teachers based on age, gender and teaching experience and educational qualifications. Therefore, heads of institution should make ICT tools readily available to support teaching activities. Also, the Federal Ministry of Education and TETFund should continuously fund the acquisition and build a good ICT infrastructure in Colleges of Education

    COVID-19 and the Nearness of Armageddon: Sense-making the Fear and Hope through Biblical Historiography

    Armageddon is the Biblical war of the Great Day of God to end all unrighteousness. It is doomsday for peoples and nations in opposition to Jehovah. This paper examines COVID-19 as one of the composite signs that Armageddon is near. It finds that the outbreak of Coronavirus heightened fear and hope globally. For some, the pandemic was a dreaded sign that the end of the world is near; and in others it increased optimism that deliverance is near. Using the historical research methodology, this paper makes sense of this fear and hope drawing lessons from Biblical antecedents. It will demonstrate the COVID-19-induced life changing spiritual lessons Nigerians must learn before Armageddon strikes. Nigeria is a secular State with a highly religious population. But most Nigerians are ironically irreligious in deeds. The high incidences of corruption and human factor decay in Nigeria belie the people’s acclaimed piety. Nigerians worship God fervently; but their fear of death and Armageddon reveasl the spiritual pandemic plaguing Nigeria. Therefore, while virologists and epidemiologists battle to protect the physical health of humanity from COVID-19; the Humanities must engage its spiritual health imperatives. Hence, the paper concludes that post-COVID-19 new normal must go beyond wearing facemasks, regular hand-washing and sanitising. It must include personality change and spiritual restitution. These are critical for turning the fear of Armageddon to hope of salvation in Nigeria and beyond

    The need to conduct an in-depth study on strategies for utilizing information technology by basic technology teachers in Lagos state is an uppermost interest to the researcher. The use of ICT for effective instructional delivery by basic technology teachers in schools is normally restricted to the use of microcomputers to teach instructional content. Basic technology teachers often find it difficult to apply ICT resources in teaching and learning due to the non-availability of the ICT resources at their disposal and as such, they lose interest in acquiring the necessary skills for effective use of ICT in teaching and learning of Basic technology. The use of ICT in teaching Basic technology according to Odumosu and Keshinro (2000) is revealed in learning aids which involves testing feedback on test results, individualized instruction, drills and practices and tutorials. These are commonly called computer-managed instructions (CMI) and computer-assisted instruction (CAI), using the computer to perform test management and teaching functions respectively. In utilizing ICT for effective instructional delivery, teachers’ level of competence is important in terms of Basic ICT knowledge, ability to operate the computer software packages and other available resources. ICT can be utilized to develop comprehensive practical training for students, create E-learning for the students, promote digital literacy between students, create a culture of life-long learning and make the learning and teaching process look very attractive to both teachers and students

    DOES INSURANCE PROMOTE ECONOMIC GROWTH: EVIDENCE FROM NIGERIA

    Insurance plays an essential role in economic growth. This study analyses the contribution of insurance to economic growth in Nigeria. The research utilised an ex-post facto design, using 28-year time series data (1992 - 2019). The study's dependent and independent variables were gross domestic product (GDP) and insurance (life and non-life) premiums. The long-run co-integration result indicated that non-life premium (NLP) positively impact GDP. The coefficient shows that a percentage increment in NLP results in a 5.63 increase in GDP. The long-run co-integration results suggested that life premium (LP) positively impacts GDP. The co-efficient also shows that a percentage increment in LP results in a 4.25 increase in GDP. The results revealed a significant positive contribution of insurance to economic growth. It indicates a significant positive impact of insurance (life and non-life) premiums on economic growth in Nigeria. The results suggest that insurance contributes positively to a nation's economic activities and promotes economic growth. The government should formulate and implement economic policies to stimulate insurance activities, enforce statutory insurance and sound corporate governance

    AUDIT COMMITTEE ATTRIBUTE: AN IMPACT ANALYSIS OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY DISCLOSURE PRACTICES FOR DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN NIGERIA

    This Paper examines the influence of audit committee characteristics on corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure practices in listed deposit money banks (DMBs) in Nigeria. The study is underpinned by the agency and legitimacy theories. Correlational research design was employed and the fourteen DMBs listed on the Nigeria Exchange Group (NGX) as at the end of year 2020 constituted the population. Ten DMBs were purposively selected for a period spanning 2016-2020. Statistical analyses were done on the collected data by employing descriptive statistics, correlation and regression statistical tools. The findings revealed that audit committee attributes do not significantly relate with CSR disclosure practices of the Nigerian DMBs. Therefore, this study recommended encouragement by policy-makers of the institution of audit committee with effective and efficient characteristics capable of influencing both the mandatory and voluntary disclosures in order to deepen the integrity of financial and non-financial reporting of Nigerian DMBs

    A Novel Approach for Normal Parameter Reduction Algorithm of Soft Set Using Unit Similarity Matrix

However, most of the time, these decision-making problems involve less important and redundant parameters, which make the decision making process more complex and challenging.     Geospatial analysis of healthcare facilities in Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos state

    The study is an assessment of the geographical distribution of healthcare facilities in Surulere Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos state, Nigeria. The study relates the distribution of the healthcare facilities with population, distance from waterbody, road, and elevation using Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP). The FAHP is a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) that provides a multidimensional approach to essential decision-making, in this case, the optimal locations of primary healthcare centres in areas of deficits. The spatial distribution of healthcare facilities in Surulere LGA shows uneven and deficiencies in the distribution, especially in Baruwa, Bale, Irone, Obele Oniwala, Odo-Oluwa, Agunbiade, Shitta Bank Olemoh wards. While the majority of the 183 health facilities were located in -Adeniran Ogunsanya, Osho, Coker, Ipanrin and Nuru-Oniwo political wards respectively. 28 of these facilities are government owned which is a course of concern in an area dominated by middle-to-low-income earners who cannot afford treatment in private facilities, especially if we consider that only 24 Primary Healthcare facilities are available for an area with a population of almost 700,000. The FAHP shows that the optimal location of new primary healthcare centres to meet the observed deficiencies are areas within Iponri/Eric Moore, Savage, and Adeniran Ogunsanya political wards because of their proximity to the road waterbody to aid easy access, located within areas of densely populated regions compared to surrounding areas to ensure easy and effective access to primary healthcare facilities and aid the general wellbeing of the citizenry. For effective healthcare coverage to be achieved in Surulere LGA, the paper recommends the adoption of geospatial techniques in the location and distribution of healthcare facilities
