NON-OIL EXPORT AND ITS EFFECTS ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA (1981-2020)
Over the decade, Non-oil exports played a vital role in the growth of the Nigerian economy. Focusing on Nigeria's real economic growth, inflation, exchange rate and nonoil export, this study investigates the impact of non-oil exports on the economy of Nigeria using data from the years 1981 to 2020. The goal was to determine whether non-oil exports have an impact on Nigeria's real GDP. A model was developed to attain these goals, and the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Cointegration Technique was employed as the analysis approach. In addition to other tests, the variables in the study were submitted to a stability test, a bound test, and the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF). The study demonstrates that, unlike other procedures, the ARDL Cointegration technique does not require pretests for unit roots. When dealing with variables that are integrated in various orders, I(0), I(1), or a mix of the two, the ARDL Cointegration technique is preferable and robust when there is a single long-run relationship between the underlying variables in a small sample size. The F-statistic (Wald test) detects the long-term relationship of the underlying variables. The ARDL results revealed, and the t-test of hypotheses examined, that non-oil exports, oil exports, and exchange rate have no effect on Nigerian economic growth and that there is a long-term link. According to the coefficient of determination, the dependent variable captures 79% of the independent factors. According to the report, for oil export and non-export to have an impact on Nigerian economic growth, a stable exchange rate and inflation must be monitored through regulations
COMPETENCY IMPROVEMENT NEEDS OF AUTO-MECHANICS TEACHERS FOR EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF SCHOOLWORKSHOPS IN LAGOS STATE TECHNICAL COLLEGES
The main goal of motor vehicle mechanics trade in the technical colleges is to produce competent vehicle mechanics and technicians for all types of vehicles. The graduates of the technical college programme should be equipped with the modern skills that will enable them to secure employment in the industries or set up their own business. The students of Auto Mechanic in Lagos state technical colleges have high hope of being employed by the industries due to the industrial nature of the State. However, contrary to this high expectation and hope by the students, majority of the students have been completing the programme with inadequate skills. This is due to lack of necessary competency needed to run or manage a workshop, and this thus could not earn them paid employment or self-employment. A study was carried out on the mechanical trades’ teachers including motor vehicle mechanic work teachers to determine their competencies in managing the workshops. It was established through the study that some teachers lacked the basic competencies needed for the management of the school workshops. Necessary management competencies are required to be acquired so that the teachers should be able to effectively plan what to teach with the available materials, tools and equipment. Regular training and retraining should be planned and organized for auto mechanic teachers in the technical colleges
TRADERS ATTITUDE TOWARDS SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN LAGOS STATE: ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION TO THE RESCUE
Solid wastes management in Lagos markets has posed challenges to the government and the citizens because of the hazard involved. Therefore, the study examined how environmental education can be of help in changing the attitude of traders towards solid waste management in Lagos markets. Attitude scale questionnaire which was the instrument used in this study was designed by the researchers. Four (4) markets were chosen within the metropolis due to their characteristics of being large and serve as depot for perishable farm produce. The sample size comprised 120 registered market traders trading in raw farm produce out of a population of 1,000 registered traders in the selected markets. The strata include fruits, pepper, and tomatoes which are highly perishable farm produce. Descriptive statistics such as the simple percentages and frequency counts were used in analyzing the bio-data of the respondents and the research questions while Chi-square (X2) statistical tool was used to test the formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed amongst others that the provision of waste infrastructures will affect the usage by the traders/market women
IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE LEARNING SYSTEM FOR PRACTICAL CLASSES USING ANIMATED INSTRUCTION
This paper presents the implementation of a learning system for practical courses using animated instruction. Learning systems are popularly used presently to deliver educational contents at various levels and animated instructions provide effective learning results since it deals with the visualization of concepts. However, existing learning systems which have been used to deliver knowledge have not implemented animated instructions in their design especially for practical classes which will help to further improve knowledge dissemination and interactions. To implement the practical learning system, data about practical classes was collected through online sources and from the department of ICT, Osun State University. The system was designed for programming practical courses and resulting prototype implemented as an interactive web-based learning system that can be used for practical courses using animations
EFFECT OF BRAND AWARENESS ON BRAND PERCEPTION IN OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY: A CASE STUDY OF OIL SERVICE FIRM
Branding has been an important tool in marketing which practitioners are using in the market to encourage customer patronage and loyalty. Scholars have been looking at ways branding paradigms have been changing marketing landscape. Therefore, this paper examined how brand awareness influenced brand perception in a place such research has not been carried out in the past, Schlumberger Nigeria Limited which is an oil service company. The research adopted survey method which is an aspect of descriptive research design by using questionnaire to collect data from customers of the oil service firm in Lagos state, Nigeria. The research selected 334 sample size using random sampling technique from a population of 2034 customers of the firm. Four hypotheses were designed and tested. The research revealed that there is statistically significant relationship between brand positioning, recall, recognition and identity (dimensions of brand awareness) and brand perception. Since previous studies also agreed with this one that suggested that brand perception is a good predictor of brand perception, corporate organisations in Nigeria should do everything possible to expose her brands to their customers
COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BAYESIAN AND ORDINARY LEAST SQUARES APPROACHES
Frequentist (Classical) and Bayesian are two major approaches to data analysis in statistics, however, the difference is how both see a parameter. Frequentists see a parameter as constant value while the Bayesians see it a random variable. Research work recently has witnessed increase in the application of Bayesian methods to statistical problems and in other fields. For linear regression modelling, frequentists use more often the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method despite violation of some assumptions. Bayesian approach can be used when assumptions in linear regression model using OLS are not met. Using two different data sets, an empirical study was performed using both OLS and Bayesian approaches to linear regression modelling. The analysis showed that the resulting linear regression model using OLS does not meet all required assumptions for a good model. The Bayesian approach as an alternative to regression modelling was further established based on results using several criteria such as RMSE, MAPE and MAD. The results showed that linear regression modelling using Bayesian approach is better than Frequentist method using OLS regression modelling
The Assessment of Prudence Practice of Built Environment Professionals in Construction Project Management
Purpose – Construction industry is experiencing an increasing challenge in project performance due to many factors with owners expressing dissatisfaction with delivery of project objectives thus, a call to prudence practice as a new strategy to solving construction project challenges.
Design/methodology/approach – Twenty-seven (27) prudent practice criteria used to test the prudence of fiduciaries were adapted for the instrument used in a cross-cultural (occupational) research instrument adaptation to assess the prudence practice of construction project managers. A total 122 questionnaires were successfully retrieved using stratified random sampling in a quantitative research approach using descriptive statistics and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) for data analysis.
Findings–Project managers performed typically in eight of the prudence practice criteria including awareness of their duties and responsibilities. The Quantity Surveyors were ranked as project managers that displayed high prudence practice among other professionals
Research limitations– This study is limited due to its novelty and dearth of literature that specifically address the prudence of construction professionals engaged in project management and therefore, further research would be necessary.
Theoretical/Social/Practical implications – The construction project management practitioners need to fully exploit the potentials of prudence practice for education and training of future project managers. The new adapted instrument is useful for practical application in the assessment of prudence practice of project managers.
Originality/value – The outcome of this study provides basis for assessing the prudence of project managers and also gives information about the performance of prudence practice across built environment professionals. Thus, prudence of project managers becomes measurable rather than subjective
A Study on Seiqr Mathematical Model With Vaccination and Preventive Control Efforts
We present the dynamics of a SEIQR mathematical model with vaccination and preventive control measures in the susceptible class. The basic reproduction number of the model dynamics is obtained by using the next-generation matrix method. The disease-free equilibrium point of the model is found to be locally asymptotically stable if R0 j=0< 1 and a unique endemic equilibrium point exists if R0 j!=0> 1. The disease-free equilibrium point of the model is found to be globally asymptotically stable if R0 j!=0 1 by using a suitable Lyapunov function. The contribution of the model parameters to the basic reproduction number is also determined through sensitivity analysis
