EFFECT OF DIVIDEND POLICY ON SHARE PRICE MOVEMENT OF SELECTED QUOTED COMPANIES IN NIGERIA

Dividend Policy remains a contentious area of corporate finance with a school of thought indifferent and another in support. The two contending views under which other hypotheses were premised are; on the popular dividend relevance and irrelevance theories. Dividend policy scholars argued that it expresses information content about future prospects and cash flow of the firm. Irrelevance proponents hinged their argument on the point that all that is necessary is the investment policies and risk of an enterprise in maximizing shareholders wealth. The latter proponents advanced their theories in favour on capital and future gains in preference to immediate payment of cash in form of dividend. This study centered on effects of dividend policy on share price of selected quoted companies in Nigeria with dividend per-share, earnings per-share and profitability taken as endogenous variables. Thirteen quoted companies on the floor of the Nigeria Exchange (NGX Group) using random sampling were used. Pooled OLS regression with fixed and random effects models were employed for estimation. The fixed effects model was preferred as the efficient estimator for the study and the results revealed that dividend per share has inverse and statistically insignificant effects with share price, likewise; earnings per share. Profitability has positive but insignificant effect on share price

The study assessed effect of corporate governance on financial performance. Specifically, the study used First Bank of Nigeria PLC, GT Bank Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, UBA Plc, and ACCESS bank Plc as case study. In line with the broad objective, the study investigated the effect of Audit Committee, Board Size, and board composition on Return on Asset (ROA) of selected banks. The ex-post facto research design was adopted in this study. Data was collected using secondary source of data, while the pooled regression model was used in this study to ascertain the relationship between the variables in the study. Findings of the study revealed that: Audit Committee have a positive and significant effect on Return on Asset (ROA), Board size has a negative and significant effect on effect on Return on Asset (ROA), while board composition does not significantly affect Return on Asset (ROA) of selected banks. It was recommended that: the audit committee members should be permitted to operate independently, and the audit committee's membership should be reviewed on a regular basis to increase transparency in the audit committee's performance of its duties. Additionally, banking financial institutions and other organizations should have a reasonable board size that includes more non-executive directors (representatives of the shareholders) than executive directors. It was recommended that a balanced board composition be implemented in response to the observed association between board composition and the financial performance of deposit money institutions as measured by ROA (with emphasis on women inclusion in board)

DOES GOVERNMENT TAX AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT INDUCE SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA?

This study investigates the impact of government tax and infrastructure on sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. The data employed in analyzing the result covers the period 1999 to 2023. The autoregressive distributive lag bound test is employed in estimating the models. The study’s findings indicate a positive and significant on economic growth, indicating that an increase in government tax can trigger increased government revenue which can translate to sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. In the same vein, infrastructure in the short run and in the long run has a positive and significant influence on economic growth, meaning that effective investment in social and economic infrastructure can trigger economic growth. Again, the interaction of government tax and infrastructure increased the sustainability of economic growth. Other results confirmed that balance of payment, public debt, and exchange rate assert a negative effect on economic growth.  Based on the empirical findings, the study recommends that since government tax and infrastructure enhanced economic growth, it then that the government should effectively provide a framework for a sustainable tax system that would ensure reliable sources of revenue to the government and support sustainable economic growth

It was discovered there is a critical role of work-life balance initiatives in shaping employee satisfaction, retention, and organizational outcomes within LSDPC. Based on the findings, it is recommended that there should be regular assessments and solicit employee feedback to better understand their work-life balance needs and preferences, enhance communication strategies to ensure that all employees are aware of the available work-life balance policies, programs, and initiatives among others

Influence of collective memory and historical victimhood on ethnic and national identities

Collective memory, which is a group’s shared representation of its past, has been considered a force that can potentially shape a group’s identity. However, previous studies focused more on negative memories of the historical past; this necessitates conducting a study that examines both negative and positive memories of the historical past. The present study, therefore, examined how collective memories (positive and negative) influence ethnic and national identification. It also examined whether victim beliefs can predict collective action intention. The study was conducted among 635 participants who were selected from the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria through an online survey using a snowball sampling technique. Path Model Analysis was adopted to test the stated hypotheses. The result indicates that negative collective memory is related to the construction of both ethnic and national identities. Victim belief was found to be a predictor of collective action intention.  The study discussed how identification tendencies impact in-group and out-group relations positively and negatively in a pluralistic society

THE IMPACT OF SELF-SPONSORSHIP ON FEMALE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN HIGHER INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA.

    No full text
This study examines the impact of self-sponsorship on the academic performance of female students in Nigerian higher institutions. With rising economic challenges and limited access to scholarships or family support, an increasing number of female students are self-funding their education. This research investigates how financial independence, work-study balance, and psychological stress influence their academic outcomes. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study analyses academic records, survey responses, and interviews with self-sponsored female students across five Nigerian universities. Findings reveal that while self-sponsored students demonstrate higher resilience and time-management skills, financial pressures and employment obligations often hinder optimal academic performance. The study recommends institutional support systems, flexible learning options, and targeted financial aid to mitigate these challenges

Forecasting Nigeria's economic outlook: an ARIMA-based model using GDP data (1990–2023)

This study develops a univariate Box–Jenkins autoregressive integrated moving-average (ARIMA (1,0,0)) model with drift to forecast Nigeria's annual GDP index using World Bank data spanning 1990–2023. We apply Augmented Dickey–Fuller unit‐root tests and first differencing to achieve stationarity, then determine model orders via autocorrelation function (ACF) and partial‐autocorrelation function (PACF) analyses. Maximum‐likelihood estimation yields an AR (1) coefficient of 0.4821 and a drift of 4.4052 index points, while Ljung–Box Q‐tests, residual ACF diagnostics, and normality checks confirm white‐noise innovations. One‐step‐ahead forecast accuracy is strong: root‐mean‐square error (RMSE) = 3.40, mean absolute error (MAE) = 2.54, and mean absolute scaled error (MASE) = 0.93, outperforming a persistence benchmark. Ten‐year projections (2024–2033) converge toward the long‐run mean within widening 95% confidence bands, and scenario‐based drift adjustments illustrate plausible growth paths under commodity and exchange‐rate shocks. We recommend anchoring fiscal forecasts to the central projection with ±3–4 index-point buffers, institutionalising rule-based stabilisers, integrating leading indicators via ARIMA-X or GARCH extensions, and deploying an interactive forecasting dashboard. This transparent, empirically validated framework enhances Nigeria's capacity to smooth revenue volatility, calibrate countercyclical measures, and reinforce macroeconomic resilience

    Nollywood Proverbs as Sociolinguistic Expressions

    No full text
Proverbs serve as globally recognized expressions of a people's culture and worldview. While the Nollywood industry is acclaimed for propagating Africa’s diverse heritage, a crucial component of this cultural display lies in verbal expressions that illuminate traditional moral and ethical norms. This is most evident in the prevalence of proverbs within contemporary productions, ranging from thought-provoking to didactic and hilarious renditions that enhance the narrative’s thematic and aesthetic depth. This study explores the sociolinguistic dimensions of traditional proverbs in Yoruba films, focusing on how they are creatively adapted to represent social practices and their cultural implications. Although typically defined as short, pithy expressions that offer moral advice, these proverbs undergo dramatic transformations in modern Yoruba cinema to project their sociolinguistic significance. By integrating these dramatic elements, filmmakers make traditional wisdom more appealing to audiences, fostering a deeper appreciation of ancestral practices. Through a purposive selection of Nollywood proverbs, this research examines the elements that establish these sayings as the ethnography of a society

MOLECULAR SIMULATION AND STOCHASTIC DOMINANCE ANALYSIS OF LIGANDS IN DRUGS FOR TREATMENT OF TB/HIV USING THE WEIGHTED GAMMA-RAYLEIGH DISTRIBUTION

    No full text
The recent treatment for Tuberculosis involves a prolonged study of a combination of antibiotics with toxic side-effects and is associated with poor patient compliance. This has resulted to the multi-drug resistant (MDR) and extensively-drug resistant (XDR) strains of M. tuberculosis. The number of anti-TB drugs currently in the pipeline is insufficient to address this major health challenge. Therefore, there is an urgent need to discover and develop new and efficient drugs against TB. Studying the interaction and functioning of drug components is the first step in the discovery process and Molecular docking is one of the methods that have been used to study drug interaction and functioning. In this study, a molecular dynamics simulation study of ligands (Ethambutol, Isoniazid, Rifampicin, Streptomycin, Pyrazinamides) that are responsible for the effectiveness of Anti-TB/HIV therapy was carried out. Additionally, the Weighted Gamma-Rayleigh distribution (WGRD) is introduced in this research work, and used in testing the stochastic dominance of the binding affinity of the ligands to the Anti-TB/HIV drugs. Results showed that Rifampicin has higher binding affinity as it has (first order stochastically) dominated Streptomycin and Pyrazinamide. Isoniazid has (first order stochastically) dominated Ethambutol. Also, Isoniazid has great power in reducing toxicity of Anti-TB/HIV drug. The results from this study provide an avenue for good health policy and prospective planning, especially in Anti-TB/HIV drug development. &nbsp

MODIFIED RUNGE-KUTTA ALGORITHM FOR OSCILLATORY CHEMICAL KINETICS

    No full text
Oscillatory dynamics frequently arise in the kinetics of chemical reactions, posing significant challenges to traditional numerical methods in capturing the dynamics. In this study, we introduce a class of modified Runge-Kutta methods specifically designed to solve such oscillatory chemical kinetics problems. Based on exponential fitting conditions for Runge-Kutta methods, we adapt several classical Runge-Kutta methods to better accommodate oscillatory behaviour. Three distinct classes of these modified methods based on some choosen parameters are proposed and presented. To evaluate their effectiveness, we conduct numerical experiments on two practical problems characterised by oscillatory chemical reactions. The results clearly demonstrate that the modified Runge-Kutta methods outperform their classical counterparts when applied to oscillatory systems
