The current study evaluated how bank fraud affected Nigeria's economy monetarily. Information was gathered from the Nigerian National Bank. The ordinary least square (OLS) was used in this study to accomplish its stated goal. Measures of variability like variance and standard deviation were employed along with measures of central tendency like mean, maximum, and minimum in the descriptive statistics. To ascertain the financial impact of banking fraud on the Nigerian economy, the number of fraud and forgery cases, the amount of fraud, the loss to banks, and the number of successful fraud cases were regressed on the main explanatory variables. The results of the study demonstrated the significance of the links and the applicability of the models for insightful analysis and judgment. Once more, it was determined that bank fraud and Nigeria's economic expansion are highly correlated. This study has made an effort to draw attention to the prevalence, scope, and effects of fraud on the Nigerian economy. Banks have serious financial difficulties as a result of fraud. The study concluded that to safeguard their assets and be able to identify and stop fraud and fraudulent actions, banks need to improve their internal control systems. Using every resource at their disposal, Nigerian banks must strengthen their oversight to effectively curb and prevent the prevalence of fraud and fraudulent practices inside the country's banking sector

Tax compliance is a core subject in Nigeria because of the diminishing revenue accruing to the government coffers, resulting from oil revenue reduction. This study examined the impact of SME taxpayers’ perception of government transparency on tax compliance as mediated by taxpayers’ satisfaction with revenue utilisation in Lagos State, Nigeria. Both primary and secondary data were used in this research. The research design for this study was survey research. From a population of 42,067 SME owners in Lagos State, a total sample of 400 respondents was drawn which necessitated the administration of 400 questionnaire out of which 364 were returned while 342 copies were found usable. The study used both descriptive and inferential statistics to analyse the data collected. The test of the hypothesis was carried out using regression analysis while Process Macro on SPSS was deployed to test the mediating effects of taxpayers’ satisfaction on the relationship between the independent variables on tax compliance. Results of the study showed that government transparency has a significant bearing on taxpayers’ satisfaction with government spending and tax compliance. Finally, the study also revealed that taxpayers’ satisfaction mediated significantly on the relationship between government transparency and tax compliance among Lagos State SME owners. The study recommends that the government of Lagos State be more transparent in the utilisation of public funds

    Get PDF
This research was carried out to determine the impact of inflation on the non-life insurance companies. Twenty non-life insurance companies’ data that have been in the business for more than twenty years and have their financial accounts statistics up to date were collated. The nonlife insurance companies are considered for this project to reduce the influence of investment return that usually come from life insurance business which give a better performance to their profitability as the inflation often trigger an increase in interest rate.  An E-views application was used to determine the level of correlation between inflation and the nonlife insurance performance on gross premium income and profit before tax. From the result of the analysis, a correlation coefficient of 0.83 and 0.72 of inflation rate were recorded against gross premium income and profit before tax respectively.  The further result from the least square regression model to test the hypothesis shows a p-value for both gross premium income and profit before tax are below the significant level. It could be adjudged that the inflation has impact on the gross premium income and inflation rate, but its impact is not significant. The study recommends that the nonlife insurance companies should ensure they keep up with their growth trajectory to reduce the impact of the inflation rate further. Consequently, the non-life insurance companies must sustain their growth trajectory through standardization of policy rate. In addition, the government should support the effort of the industry on enforcement of the compulsory insurance policies especially during inflationary period to ensure that the industry record required growth to lessen the inflation’s impact

This study examined the impact of school location and teacher quality on the academic performance of secondary school students in science subjects. A descriptive survey research design, incorporating an ex post facto approach, was employed. The study sampled 80 science teachers and analyzed the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of 1,648 students using multistage sampling techniques. Two research instruments were used: the Location and Teacher Quality Questionnaire (LTQQT) and a Two-Year Examination Results Template. The LTQQT's face and content validity were assessed by experts in Science Education and Test, Measurement, and Evaluation, while its reliability was established through the test-retest method, yielding a coefficient of 0.72. The second instrument comprised standardized results from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Data were analyzed using the t-test and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, with hypotheses tested at a 0.05 significance level. Results indicated no significant relationship between school location and academic performance, whereas teacher quality showed a significant impact on student achievement. The study concludes that while location does not affect performance, teacher quality is crucial. It is recommended that schools be in conducive environments and teachers undergo continuous professional development to enhance instructional effectiveness in science education

    No full text
One of the major baggage that beginner readers in second language take into literacy lessons is oracy in the first language. Using the Linguistic Interdependence Hypothesis, this paper aims at examining the effects of Yoruba oracy skills on Yoruba phonological awareness among beginner readers in order to have an empirical understanding of how oracy skills affect literacy development. The study conducted Yoruba phonological awareness test for 147 Basic One pupils using the adapted form of Hastings & Prince Edward District School Board’s phonological assessment tool. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings show that oracy in Yoruba enhances word awareness in the language while syllable, onset-rime and phonemic awareness are dormant in Yoruba beginner readers prior to literacy instructions in the language. The study recommends investigating influences of oracy on other metalinguistic abilities like morphological and syntactic awareness

The Lucifer Effect in Kaine Agary's "Yellow-Yellow"

    No full text
This paper explores Kaine Agary's “Yellow-Yellow” through the prism of a Luciferian analysis that utilises the novel genre as a means of illuminating the issues of evil, situations and the system. It excavates the author's portrayal of the relationship that exists between evil, situations that engender it and the systems that promote it to explore human experiences in its selected contexts. The work validates the appropriateness of a Luciferian analysis as a tool for unearthing certain stereotypes in the selected novel. In the process, it expands the understanding of a common humanity and enables a transcendence over gender, religious, ethnic and socioeconomic prejudices. It analyses Agary's portrayal of evil and establishes her recognition of the influences of situations and the system on the execution of vicious actions. In addition, it substantiates the claim that no one is above mistakes nor intentional wrongdoing as long as there is sufficient motivation through its excavation of examples from the selected text. Finally, this study argues that, in reverse, given favourable situations and a supportive system, everyone is also capable of doing good. This insight provided by this research about how invaluable situations and systemic powers are to human experiences is meant to sprout interest in further criticism aimed at a better understanding of how good people turn evil

Effective strategies are more vital than ever in today's rapidly evolving global landscape with heightened competition and demanding clientele. This study examined how differentiation strategies affect the performance of a healthcare firm, making a valuable contribution to the field of strategic development. It focused on differentiation strategies as deployed by health companies. Non-probability purposive sampling was employed, targeting customers of the Healthcare firm who were deemed capable of providing meaningful responses regarding the relationship between adopted differentiation strategies and organisational performance. The findings revealed a low level of consistency among the four key constructs: differentiation strategy (0.797), organisational performance (0.862), customer loyalty (0.836), and customer patronage (0.831). While differentiation strategies strongly impact organisational performance, they do not appear to be the primary driver of customer loyalty and patronage within the Healthcare firm. The study recommends that organisations delve into customer insights to identify the factors that foster customer loyalty and patronage
