    Application of Games Theory to Crime Investigation of suspects (A Case Study of Delta State Police Divisional Head-quarters, Abraka)

    This paper discussed Games Theory and its application to real life situation. Emphasis was on the application of Games Theory to check some unlawful practice and even suspects under investigation such as multiple (or false) confession from suspects, use of physical violence during investigation and wrong conviction of suspects. This research was aimed at using game theory in combating crime in the society. The importance of a crime free society cannot be overemphasised as a result of the high level of insecurity and hence it is imperative to apply a more tactical approach to foster solution to insecurity. This paper uses the prisoner’s dilemma method, a situation where two suspects apprehended for a crime are held in separate rooms and cannot communicate with each other. Also, quantitative method was employed to examine the research problem effectively. Data collection that aided this research were sourced through systematic sampling from previously existing works from authors. This research was developed to check some sharp unlawful Police practice and even from suspect under investigation as well as employing the technique of Game Theory as a way of obtaining true from suspects, administering justice speedily and a strong avenue for prison decongestion due to the alarming conditions in most Nigerian Prisons

    Retrospective Study of the Impact of Sensitization on COVID-19 Pandemic in Rivers State, Nigeria

    This study examines the impact of sensitization on COVID-19 dynamics in Rivers State, Nigeria, utilizing a mathematical model and data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Parameter estimation involves meticulous fitting, refining key parameters like βc, cm, α1, α2, α3, α4, and the reproduction number Rc. The study employs a genetic algorithm for precise parameter estimation, ensuring the model aligns closely with observed COVID-19 data. Estimated values for βc, cm, α1, α2, α3, α4, and Rc provide a robust foundation for accurate simulations, enhancing the reliability of the model and facilitating a deeper understanding of the population dynamics of COVID-19 in human population. Uncertainty and sensitivity analyses highlight crucial parameters, emphasizing the relative infectiousness of asymptomatic individuals (ηs), face mask efficacy (ϵm), and sensitization effectiveness (ϵs, cm). Numerical simulations reveal that a combined strategy of sensitization and face mask use can significantly curtail the disease progression. Targeting susceptible and exposed individuals in sensitization efforts proves most beneficial, aligning with sensitivity analysis results. Notably, the combination of sensitization and face mask use results in a remarkable 98% reduction in cumulative cases. Sensitization emphasizing various preventive measures, when doubled, shows a 99% reduction. These findings suggest that a comprehensive sensitization approach can profoundly impact COVID-19 control. Policymakers can leverage these insights to optimize sensitizationprograms, emphasizing the role of preventive measures beyond face mask use, ultimately guiding effective public health strategies in Rivers State and beyond

    Bifurcation Analysis of an Age Structured Malaria Model

    Malaria is one of the diseases that account for the highest mortality in sub-Saharan Africaparticularly among children below the age of five. On 17 April 2023, Nigeria became thesecond country in the world to approve R21 malaria vaccine to prevent malaria infectionsin children from five months to thirty-six months of age. In an attempt to investigate theimplications of vaccine development for malaria and the subsequent approval of its use in someendemic regions, an age-structured malaria model was designed and some important factorsthat could shape malaria dynamics were incorporated (e.g. vaccination, nonlinear incidence,asymptomatic carriers, relapse and migration). The validity of the model is established usingsome mathematics theorems and the reproduction number is computed following the nextgeneration matrix method. Bifurcation analysis is conducted by employing the center manifoldtheorem. The results of the study indicated that the development of malaria vaccines andthe subsequent approval of its use in some malaria endemic regions (e.g. Ghana, Nigeria,etc.) are a welcome development. However, while the vaccines may guarantee the necessaryprotection, its application and coverage to the fullest may not instigate malaria eradication.The policy implication of the results is that the prevalence of vectors in the endemic regionsnecessitated adequate vector control in addition to the application of vaccines to minimizemalaria transmission

    Note On Hyers-Ulam Stability Criteria for Third Order Nonlinear Differential Equations with Forcing Term

    The stability of the ordinary differential equations has been investigated and the investigation is ongoing. In this paper we are concerned with note on Hyers-Ulam stability(HUs) criteria for third order nonlinear differential equations with forcing term. The third order nonlinear differential equations invesgated were transformed to integral equation, then, applied Bihari inequality and Gronwall-Bellman-Bihari(GBB) type inequality to arrive at our results. New criteria were established to prove HUs of nonlinear third order differential equations. Finally, examples are given to illustrate correctness our results.   &nbsp

    On Vector Lyapunov Functions and Uniform Eventual Stability of Nonlinear Impulsive Differential Equations

    In this paper, the uniform eventual stability of nonlinear impulsive differential equations with fixed moments of impulse is examined using the vector Lyapunov functions which is generalized by a class of piecewise continuous functions. Together with comparison results, sufficient conditions for the uniform eventual stability are presented. Results obtained extends the more restrictive scalar case in the literature to a more comprehensive framework for uniform eventual stability analysis.&nbsp

    SOFT SKILLS AS CORRELATES OF ACADEMIC STAFF SERVICE DELIVERY IN SOUTH-WEST FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES OF NIGERIA

    Soft skills are regarded as interpersonal skills and character traits that complement the service delivery of academic staff in the university. This study examined the relationship between soft skills and academic staff service delivery in selected Federal universities in South-Western Nigeria. Two research objectives guided this study and were transformed into research questions and hypotheses. The theoretical framework adopted in this study was the Lean Management Theory.  This study adopted a correlational survey research design. The population of the study `comprised 2,947 academic staff from two Federal universities in South-West, with a sample size of 352 using Taro Yemane’s sample size calculator. Random sampling technique was used in the selection of participants for the study. The instrument used for data collection was developed by the researchers, validated by experts and found reliable through a pilot testing. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson product moment correlation. The findings of the study revealed a positive and significant relationship between time management skill and academic staff service delivery and between problem-solving skill and academic staff service delivery in South-West Federal universities in Nigeria. The study recommended that academic staff should be trained on the importance of soft skills on service delivery in the university

    The usability of online platforms such as google classroom, Edmodo and Educate for learning Educational Technology in the Colleges of Education is a function of ease of use, usefulness, ease of learning, accessibility and satisfaction, all which play crucial roles in determining how effectively these platforms are adopted and utilized by pre-service teachers. This study investigated pre-service teachers’ perceived usability of online platforms for learning educational technology in colleges of education in South-West, Nigeria. Data were collected through structured questionnaire from pre-service teachers selected through multistage sampling techniques. Mean, and standard deviation were used for data analysis. Findings revealed that pre-service teachers perceived online platforms useful for learning, easy to learn, satisfactory for learning educational technology but perceived not easy to use. The study concluded that pre-service teachers had positive perception of online platforms for learning Educational Technology in the Colleges of Education in South-West, Nigeria.  This study therefore recommended among others that; National Commission for Colleges of Education should review the curriculum of Colleges of Education with a view to incorporating the use of online platform for teaching. Initial training and orientation classes about online learning platforms should be provided for new students entering Colleges of Education. Lecturers in the Colleges of Education should use content lesson plans that include the integration of online learning platforms for teaching. Administrators of Colleges of Education should continuously organize seminars and conferences for the pre-service teachers and lecturers on the pedagogical uses of online learning platform

    APPLICATION OF GEE IN THE FIT OF ORDINAL MARGINAL REGRESSION MODEL FOR TREATMENT RESPONSE OF HYPERTENSION

    This study adopts the ordinal logistic marginal model to fit the response to treatment of hypertensive patients with a view to ascertain any importance in incorporating panels when studying such clinical data. The Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) provides an appropriate approach for estimating the model parameters. Two versions of ordinal regression models in conjunction with two forms of covariance estimators under three working correlation structures are considered. Results obtained revealed the importance of panels when studying the risk factors and response to treatment of hypertensive patients. With the Quasi-likelihood Information Criterion obtained for ordinal regression and other fitness criteria, the exchangeable working correlation is recommended as most adequate for the given data set

    THE EFFECT OF EXPORT TRADE ON THE ECONOMIC GROWTH OF NIGERIA

    This study investigates the effect of export trade on the economic growth of Nigeria, analyzing secondary data from 1992 to 2022 sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Statistical Bulletin. The Ex-post facto research was used, employing an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to assess the relationships between oil exports, non-oil exports, export growth rates, and GDP. The findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between oil exports and GDP, demonstrating that increases in oil exports are strongly associated with GDP growth. Despite some of the worst declines in output and trade volume during the pandemic as a result of the lockdown, there was a surge in 2022 due to increased global demand and rising oil prices. Non-oil exports also have a significant positive impact on GDP, highlighting the crucial role of diversifying export sectors to enhance economic growth. Substantial increases in non-oil exports from 2018 to 2019, a slight decline in 2020, and continued growth in subsequent years indicate diversification and increased competitiveness in non-oil sectors. Additionally, the export growth rate positively affects GDP, with higher export growth rates contributing significantly to economic output. The study concluded that export trade contributes to the growth of the Nigerian economy, even though trade was affected significantly by the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a surge in 2022. The study recommends diversifying the export portfolio to reduce dependency on oil exports and mitigate risks associated with commodity price volatility. Also, sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and services which have significant export potential but are currently underutilized should be promoted

    Cold Chain Management and Firm Performance: A Bibliometric Analysis and Future Research Direction

    The bibliometric analysis explores the field of research on cold chain management and its impact on firm performance, aiming to identify trends, gaps, and future research directions in the field. Leveraging on data from the Web of Science database, 155 articles published between 2015 and 2024 were analysed. The study reveals a growing interest in this area, with an increasing number of publications over the years, particularly, with notable spikes in 2022 and 2023. Key sources such as the Journal of Cleaner Production and Industrial Management and data Systems emerged as influential contributors to the literature. Prominent authors like Li, G. and Zhang, J. have made significant contributions, China leads in scientific production followed by India and the UK. The thematic evolution highlights shifting research streams from demand and logistics in cold chains to include topics like sustainability and impact on cold supply chains. Collaboration networks by countries and authors reveal central players like the USA and China, as well as influential authors such as Zhang, J. and Li, G. co-citation networks, identify seminar works driving the discus, including papers by Saif A and Wang S.Y. Overall, the study underscores the importance of effective cold chain management for firm performance and offers valuable insights for future research, emphasising the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and addressing emerging challenges in the field, such as sustainability and pandemic resilience. This analysis provides a foundation for scholars and practitioners to advance knowledge and practices in cold chain management, thereby enhancing operational efficiency, product quality, and market competitiveness
