Get PDFThe Body of Christ is challenged to, “be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind” (Philippians 2:2). How then could a congregation, comprised of individuals harboring diverse cultural worldviews, discover and live into this reality? Through various individual and group exercises, participants sought to determine whether story elements have the power to serve as a true sense-making device within an ecclesial setting. The results indicate that that a majority of participants found the story-based framework beneficial in regards to their personal understanding of the work of First Baptist Church
Perspectives from African American Male Rural School Leaders Regarding Targeted Recruitment Strategies for Future African American Male Rural School Leaders
Get PDFAfrican American male educators are becoming extinct in our current United States School system. Representing less than 2% of the teaching force, our recruitment efforts will need adjustments to increase this population of educators in schools (Bristol & Mentor, 2018; Goings & Bianco, 2016; Wallace & Gagen, 2019). To address this concern, our study explores the perspective of African American male rural school leaders on the need to recruit more African American males into educational professions. Through three semi-structured interviews, 60-90 minutes, we identified the lack of opportunities and targeted recruitment strategies for this population into the field of education. Our findings underscore the importance of expanding opportunities and implementing creative recruitment strategies that can help bring more African American male educators into the profession. Additionally, we recommend that principal preparation programs be examined to ensure they are effectively preparing African American males for leadership roles in education
The Impact of Palliative Care Education on Acute Care Nurses
Get PDFThe purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project was to improve acute care nurses’ knowledge of evidence-based palliative care interventions utilizing the framework from the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) training modules. Increasing the knowledge, comfort, and competence of acute care nurses has the potential to improve end-of-life care delivery in the acute care setting. A lack of access to specialized inpatient palliative care service teams was identified in a rural county in the Southeastern United States. This county is served by a small, criticalaccess hospital. The frontline nursing staff of this facility regularly provides end-of-life services to local patients and families since no other local inpatient palliative care option is available. Acute care nurses have minimal formal training in evidence-based practice provision of end-of-life care. To increase awareness of evidenced-based palliative care, this DNP project presented information from the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) project training modules in a blended format including a presentation, flyers, and question and answer sessions. Pre and post implementation surveys were obtained to monitor the effectiveness of this intervention. A need for continued palliative care education was identified as a result of this project
