Tunneling Activities Detection Using Machine Learning Techniques, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2011, nr 1
Tunnel establishment, like HTTPS tunnel or related ones, between a computer protected by a security gateway and a remote server located outside the protected network is the most effective way to bypass the network security policy. Indeed, a permitted protocol can be used to embed a forbidden one until the remote server. Therefore, if the resulting information flow is ciphered, security standard tools such as application level gateways (ALG), firewalls, intrusion detection system (IDS), do not detect this violation. In this paper, we describe a statistical analysis of ciphered flows that allows detection of the carried inner protocol. Regarding the deployed security policy, this technology could be added in security tools to detect forbidden protocols usages. In the defence domain, this technology could help preventing information leaks through side channels. At the end of this article, we present a tunnel detection tool architecture and the results obtained with our approach on a public database containing real data flows

The paper starts with a discussion of the concept of knowledge engineering, in particular ontological engineering. Consequently, the paper presents assumptions accepted as a basis for a group research on a radically personalized system of ontological knowledge mining, relying on the perspective of human centered computing and combining ontological concepts of the user with an ontology resulting from an automatic classification of a given set of textual data. The paper presents a pilot system PrOnto that supports research work in two aspects: searching for information interesting for a user according to her/his personalized ontological profile, and supporting research cooperation in a group of users (Virtual Research Community) according, e.g., to a comparison of such personalized ontological profiles. The paper concludes with suggestions concerning diverse applications of ontological engineering tools and future work

This paper concerns quality evaluation of the telecommunication services: VoIP (representing the RT interactive class) and VoD (representing the MM streaming class). Subjective and objective methods and tools for perceived quality measurement are analyzed and compared. Subjective tests are performed for selected video sequences using the Double-Stimulus Impairment Scale (DSIS) method. Thus the objective algorithms (VQM and VQmon) are calibrated. Speech quality is measured using the objective methods: PESQ and POLQA. Threshold values for network parameters (packet loss rate, delay jitter) are set, that guarantee the acceptable service quality
The Learning System by the Least Squares Support Vector Machine Method and its Application in Medicine, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2011, nr 3
In the paper it has been presented the possibility of using the least squares support vector machine to the initial diagnosis of patients. In order to find some optimal parameters making the work of the algorithm more detailed, the following techniques have been used: K-fold Cross Validation, Grid-Search, Particle Swarm Optimization. The result of the classification has been checked by some labels assigned by an expert. The created system has been tested on the artificially made data and the data taken from the real database. The results of the computer simulations have been presented in two forms: numerical and graphic. All the algorithms have been implemented in the C# language
Why is IPv6 Deployment Important for the Internet Evolution?, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2011, nr 2
Replacing the IPv4 protocol with IPv6 on the Internet is currently one of the aims of the European Union policy. The main reason for this replacement is the effeteness of the addresses pool in the IPv4 protocol, which can cause serious complications in the evolution of the Internet and its adaptation in new areas, e.g., in next generation mobile telephony or the so called Internet of Things. Simultaneously, the addressing capabilities of the IPv6 protocol are practically unlimited and its new functionalities increase the attractiveness of its usage. The article discusses the problems connected with the IPv6 deployment on the Internet. Especially, the rules for realization of the IPv6 deployment and rules for cooperation of IPv4 with IPv6 (including cooperation tests) in network infrastructure and in applications are presented. Moreover, the European projects’ results and the activity’s directions of the national project Future Internet Engineering are discussed

The paper presents a practical implementation of the non-classified data hiding system (NDHS) understood asa military platform for information warfare that takes advantage of the hidden data transmission for voice connections inorder to gain informational lead over a potential enemy. Artykuł niniejszy jest poświęcony ogólnie roli logiki w poznaniu i kreowaniu wiedzy, w tym logiki wielowartościowej, najpierw z przeciwstawieniem jej roli klasycznej w filozofii oraz jej roli w zastosowaniach, zwłaszcza telekomunikacyjnych i teleinformatycznych, później zaś przykładowi zastosowania logik wielowartościowych w inżynierii wiedzy. Podkreślona jest konieczność pluralizmu logicznego, tj. wyboru logiki o założeniach adekwatnych do danej dziedziny zastosowań. Dyskutowana jest kwestia pozornych paradoksów logicznych oraz ich usuwania przez wybór adekwatnej wersji logiki, a także przykład wyboru adekwatnej wersji logiki w zastosowaniu do systemu PrOnto wspomagania wyszukiwania tekstów interesujących dla użytkownika
