We Mourn Our Loss
WHY THIS SUBJECT? I wanted to pay homage to Keith Haring, and to create a work that focused on remembrance and how to approach mourning for those you never knew.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? The figures are both of Keith Haring, the title and words on the piece are in reference to a painting by Kerry James Marshall, and the figures hand was left unfinished and with paint dripping as a reference to the uncompleted final painting by Keith Haring.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? I painted on an unstretched canvas in oil and acrylic.https://digitalcommons.colum.edu/capturingprotest/1041/thumbnail.jp
A Piece for the Disadvantaged Elder 3
WHY THIS SUBJECT? My sister works in a retirement community, thankfully not one with a reputation to mistreat their elders. Since her tenure there, I\u27ve had wild visions of elders being taken advantage of, whether mentally or physically. Modern media certainly hasn\u27t helped at all when it comes to this disheartening subject. Hollywood, as always, takes a topic and glamorizes it, turns it into a desired money-making scheme. I think portrays in media and the lack of backlash from society regarding the topic of elder abuse is to be ashamed of. My goal was to inform those who weren\u27t already aware, and to inform to elder class of the problem and that they have the option to voice themselves if they feel they are being neglected.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? This piece was inspired by my sisters working at a retirement community and also Netflix\u27s film I Care A Lot which is a film that glamorizes and underplays the effects of elder abuse.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? This piece was done completely digitally. It combined photography and graphic design. I begin drafting this with simply a color scheme and typefaces. From there, I developed a vision and then combined the photography and my design abilities to create a set of three posters. Two are more powerful statements about the subject at hand, Elder Abuse, and the other features harrowing statistics.https://digitalcommons.colum.edu/capturingprotest/1047/thumbnail.jp

A Men\u27s Issue
WHY THIS SUBJECT? I am exhausted by having to constantly advocate for my right to exist as a human being who does not deserve to be harmed and watching women be killed and assaulted, while the perpetrators of this violence live unbothered.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? The focus of my poster for this project is to flip the label of women’s movement on its head, as it is not women’s responsibility to combat the violence they fall victim to. It is impossible to make progress in any “woman’s movement” without holding men accountable for their part in the misogyny and sexism that continues to burden those identifying as women in our society. Due to the lack of standards and expectations for men to be held to, many are satisfied with taking a passive stance of, Well I\u27m not violent toward women, so I am not the problem and, therefore, am creating the solution , which is simply an illogical fallacy. Rather than taking an active part in the movement counteracting what they as a male hegemony have caused, their refusal to work toward a solution only worsens the problem.
WHAT WAS YOUR PROCESS? I used Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.https://digitalcommons.colum.edu/capturingprotest/1052/thumbnail.jp
Feminism is for a woman

The poster indirectly represents intersectional feminism.

WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? The words that acknowledges their attributes and features of being a black activist in America

Housewife & Office Lady
WHY THIS SUBJECT? Because many people tend to think that women should not work in office, they should be housewives after marring to men. However, when they quit there job, they will face to all kinds of chores, take care of babies, and couldn\u27t have time to have fun. And people won\u27t sympathize them because they don\u27t earn money, they depend on their husbands for living. So I want to fight for all women, and tell everybody that they have the choice to choose what they want instead of judging by others.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE WORK? It\u27s for everyone, not only for women.
