THE EFFECT OF THE REALISTIC MATHEMATICS EDUCATION (RME) LEARNING MODEL ON THE MATHEMATICS LEARNING OUTCOMES OF CLASS V UPTD STUDENTS AT SD NEGERI 235 WATALLIPUE, WAJO REGENCY
This research examines the influence of Learning Models Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on the Mathematics Learning Outcomes of Class V UPTD Students at SD Negeri 235 Watallipue Wajo Regency, which aims to determine the description of students' mathematics learning outcomes and the influence of the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model on the Mathematics Learning Results of Class V UPTD Students SD Negeri 235 Watallipue Wajo Regency. This research uses a type of pre-experimental design experimental research in the form of one group pretest-posttest. The variables in this research consist of independent variables (X) in the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model and the dependent variable (Y) is student mathematics learning outcomes. The sample for this research consisted of 21 Class V UPTD students at SD Negeri 235 Watallipue, Wajo Regency. Sampling in this research used a saturated sampling technique. The data collection techniques used are documentation and multiple-choice tests. The data analysis used is descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of descriptive statistical analysis were obtained from students' pretest and posttest results with data in the form of distribution tables. The results of inferential statistical analysis consisting of normality tests and hypothesis tests using the paired sample T-test show that the average student learning outcomes in the pretest were 50.52, while the average student learning outcomes in the posttest were 82.52. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model influences the mathematics learning outcomes of class V UPTD students at SD Negeri 235 Watallipue, Wajo Regency
INVESTIGATING THE STUDENTS’ NEED IN LEARNING ENGLISH VOCABULARY: NEED ANALYSIS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS
This research aimed at finding out the learning needs of deaf students in learning English vocabulary using digital book at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar. The participants of the research were chosen by using total sampling The students’ criteria who experience a loss of hearing and speech impairments may face various challenges in their educational journey were the participant this research were thirty students of junior high school and senior high school SLB Negeri 1 Makassar. The data was collected through questionnaire and interview. The results of this research showed that deaf students was Important purpose in learning English for deaf students was to succeed in college, to succeed in career, for information exchange, to get a scholarship, and for personal needs. Deaf students are having barriers to writing, reading, speaking and listening skills. vocabulary important materials for deaf students were vocabulary at school, in the classroom, school equipment, at school, subjects, classroom activities, school uniform, extracurricular, school environment, profession, family, daily activity, month and day vocabulary. Learning models that were important to deaf students in their vocabulary learning preferences in the classroom include learning alone, learning in a pair, learning in small groups, and learning in large groups. Deaf learning activities and media in vocabulary learning in the classroom were using sign language and digital-based learning. An important place to learn vocabulary for deaf students is in the school area. The teacher said that all activities and learning processes students use smartphone as media. Technology strongly supports media in teaching English which will enrich the repertoire of learning and facilitate teachers in the teaching process and the use of smartphones can be one of the media that can attract or motivate students in learning English
EXPLORING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS’ VIEW ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A FIELDWORK ACTIVITY
Fieldwork is crucial in biological education, particularly in zoology, as it offers students practical and experiential learning that deepens their understanding of biological concepts. In the context of invertebrate zoology, fieldwork exposes students to the diversity, behavior, and ecology of invertebrates in their natural environments, thereby enhancing theoretical knowledge and developing essential skills like observation, data collection, and scientific analysis. This descriptive quantitative study explores undergraduate students' perspectives on fieldwork in a Zoology Invertebrate course. Conducted in May 2023, the research involved 32 students enrolled in the course, selected for their relevant experience in fieldwork. Data was gathered using a structured questionnaire which utilized a 5-point Likert scale, focusing on two main themes: students' preference for joining fieldwork and the perceived educational benefits of fieldwork. The questionnaire, administered online immediately after the fieldwork, ensured fresh and accurate responses. Results indicate a strong preference for fieldwork as a learning method and a positive impact on students' understanding of invertebrate zoology concepts. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GLASSER LEARNING MODEL ON SPEAKING SKILLS (SPRECHFERTIGKEIT) IN GERMAN LANGUAGE EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM STUDENTS UHKBPNP
This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of students' speaking skills through an innovative learning model, namely by using Glasser's learning model. Speaking skills require learners to think creatively and innovatively. Speaking skills in German (Sprechfertigkeit) include linguistic materials and also discuss various forms of conversation/dialogue themes in accordance with themes that intersect with everyday life. Speaking skills are one of the four language skills that need to be instilled so that the communicative abilities of students can be developed optimally. This research was conducted by the German Language Education Study Program at Nommensen HKBP University Pematang Siantar. In this study using experimental method by using initial test and final text. This research procedure was carried out using a quasi experimental design because in this study there were external variables that could not be controlled by the researcher. The subjects of this study were all students of the German Language Education Study Program Semester 3 (three) Nommensen HKBP University Pematang Siantar Academic Year 2023/2024. With data collection techniques is to test the learning outcomes in accordance with the teaching material on learning speaking skills (Sprechfertigkeit). The results of this study indicate that the speaking ability of students by using the Glasser model increases than before. The difference can be seen from the results of data analysis on the pretest, which before the application reached an average of 54.61 classified as a poor category and the results of data analysis on the posttest, which after the application reached an average of 74.44 classified as a good category with a mean difference (D) Ì…) of -19.83. So it can be concluded that the Glasser learning model is proven effective in improving students' speaking skills
STUDENT PERCEPTION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TRADITIONAL AND MODERN METHODS
This research aimed to investigate the students' perception of Learning English strategies in traditional and modern methods, with the main goal being to understand the preferences and the effectiveness they felt. The Traditional method, such as lecture-based instruction and doing exercises from textbooks, has been used for a long time in the English language learning process, while modern methods, including digital tools and interactive activity in learning, become more popular. The surveys and interviews with the students from Universitas Klabat which has different background majors who took General English classes in 2023/2024-year program, this investigation explores the students' perception of traditional and modern methods in the learning process. The findings showed that nevertheless, the Traditional method was acknowledged considering that it was structured and its detailed explication, on the other hand, the students considered that the modern method was more interesting and conducive to interactive learning. This study gave insights into the strengths and limitations of both methods and offered recommendations to integrate traditional and modern strategies to improve English Education
AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ CONFIDENCE IN SPEAKING ENGLISH TOWARDS VOCABULARY MASTERY AT SMPN 35 MAKASSAR
The objectives of this research is to to find out why students are not confident in speaking English even though they have a lot of vocabulary at Smpn 35 Makassar. This research used qualitative method. This research was conducted in three stages, namely observation, questionnaire and interview test. The samples of this study were students of class VIII-4, namely 25 students as respondents and an English teacher of class VIII-4. Data collection used observation, questionnaire and interview test. The result of this study is that the amount of vocabulary that students have does not guarantee that a student is confident in speaking English. this is caused by shyness, fear of being wrong and the influence of the environment, where the environment is very influential in building students' confidence to speak. Based on the results of research conducted in class VIII-4 SMPN 45 Makassar, based on the results of the questionnaire, there are 15 students who feel embarrassed if they make mistakes and 10 students who do not feel embarrassed if they make mistakes in speaking English
FACTORS INFLUENCING STUDENTS’ UNWILLINGNESS TO SPEAK IN EFL CLASSROOM
The purposes of this research are to 1) find out the influencing factors of the students' unwillingness to speak in EFL classroom. and 2) find out how the factors influence students' unwillingness to speak in EFL classroom. A mixed-methods approach was used. The research subjects were 10th grade students majoring in Agribusiness Processing of Agricultural Products at SMK Negeri 4 Jeneponto. Participants were selected through a purposive sampling technique in determining the sample of this research, nine students were selected as participants, with three students categorized as having low score in English practice, three students categorized as having intermediate score in English practice, and three students categorized as having high score in English practice. The results of the research showed that psychological factor influencing students' unwillingness to speak in EFL classroom is lack of self-confidence. Meanwhile, linguistic factors included: (1) Lack of vocabulary (2) Lack of grammatical pattern knowledge and (3) Incorrect Pronunciation. A lack of confidence, frequently rooted in past negative experiences of language errors that have resulted in reluctance to speak in public, is a significant psychological barrier, discouraging students from participating. Linguistic challenges further exacerbate this issue; limited vocabulary and insufficient knowledge of grammatical patterns lead to hesitation and fragmented speech, as students struggle to articulate their thoughts clearly. Pronunciation errors also play a crucial role, as they can affect intelligibility and cause students to fear that their speech may not be understood, thus reinforcing their unwillingness to speak up in class
OPTIMIZING RESEARCH PRODUCTIVITY: GRADUATE STUDENTS’ VIEW ON USING POP AND VOSVIEWER TOOLS
The increasing demand for high-quality academic publications has prompted the exploration of innovative tools to streamline the research process. We conducted a study to explore how graduate students perceive using tools like Publish or Perish (PoP) and VOSviewer to improve their research productivity. The research uses a mixed-method approach including surveys and interviews of graduate students in the Universitas Negeri Makassar postgraduate program. The results show that PoP allows effective literature searches and citation analysis, and VOSviewer enables a wide coverage visual exploration of bibliometric data, including research mapping and trend analyses. However, issues concerning technical know-how and tool access were highlighted. This study highlights the promising potential of incorporating PoP and VOSviewer into the existing academic writing curricula to help graduate students develop impactful work. The paper also discusses recommendations for better tool utilization and overcoming known challenges
PRE-SERVICE ENGLISH TEACHERS' PERCEPTION OF THE USE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY TO CREATE ENGLISH TESTS IN LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT
The main objective of this research is to obtain an overview of pre-service English teachers' perceptions regarding the use of digital technology in making English language tests in the language assessment process. This research uses a mixed-method research model that combines qualitative research models and quantitative models to obtain more comprehensive and in-depth data regarding pre-service English teachers' perceptions on the use of digital technology in creating English tests. The research data source will be selected purposively, namely, pre-service teachers who have completed the Language Assessment course in the English Language Education study program, Faculty of Language and Literature, Universitas Negeri Makassar. In the data collection process, researchers used interviews, questionnaires, and document reviews. Qualitative data will be analyzed based on the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. Meanwhile, to analyze quantitative data, researchers will use descriptive statistical analysis. THE USE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN FACILITATING ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
With the prevalent and ubiquotous exposure to the Internet and digital technologies, students obtain better opportunities to various learning sources. This study explored how undergraduate students utilized digital technologies to facilitate their learning in an informal setting. The study employed a qualitative design, with interview as the instrument of data collection. A total of 10 undergraduate students in English Department, Faculty of Humanities at Sam Ratulangi University, participated in the study. The interview questions were formulated by using the theory of self-regulated learning, including preparing learning environment, organizing material, and monitoring and evaluation. While the students utilized the digital technology within their study, the use was still inconsistent, as they had limited knowledge about using the learning aids effectively. The results also revealed that the students did not set specific learning goals and select appropriate technologies to assist them during their study. Additionally, the results also suggested that the students did not monitor and use digital technologies to evaluate and monitor their learning. This study highlights the needs for educators to promote the incorporation of digital technologies in improving the quality of learning among students for a sustainable and independent learning
