Camel Milk as Adjuvant to Treat Alloxan Diabetes: Effect of Heat Treatment on this Property
Diabetes is one of the most frequent and serious chronic diseases in humans all over the world. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of heat treatment on antidiabetic activity of camel milk on serum glucose and lipid profile of alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in Wistar albino rats by intraperitoneal injection of alloxan (120 mg/kg BW once). Albino rats each weighing 180-230g were divided into 3 equal groups (n=4) as following: G1- normal rats fed on normal diet, G2 - diabetic rats fed on normal diet, and G3 - diabetic rats were fed with raw camel milk. Fasting blood glucose was measured lipid profile was assessed. Results: Our study showed a significant effect of raw camel milk on blood glucose and lipid profile parameters in alloxan induced diabetic rats, there was a significant reduction in lipid profile of T. Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL-C in (Diabetic+ Raw camel milk) comparing to (Diabetic+ Pasteurized camel milk) and Positive control group with values 121.4 mg/dl, 80.4 mg/dl, 17.9 mg/dl and 141.5 mg/dl, 90.7 mg/dl, 28.7 mg/dl and 181.6 mg/dl, 113.8 mg/dl, 48.9 mg/dl respectively. Diabetic+ Boiled camel milk group died at the end of experiment. Conclusion: Raw camel milk improved the glycemic and lipid profile in diabetic rats but not in Diabetic+ Boiled camel milk group. These findings indicate that boiling of raw camel milk may have reducing potential benefits in the treatment of diabetes. Future studies will be needed to establish its safety and mechanism of action

Comparison of Rolling Forces and Enlargement of Hot-rolled Strips Obtained from Experimental, Analytical and Simulation Models
During rolling processes, the strain on the thickness direction of a material inevitably results in dimensional changes in width and length. Knowledge of the behavior of strains and stresses acting during hot rolling process becomes indispensable, as it allows to estimate the resulting geometry and optimize process conditions. This study compares the deformation and the rolling forces obtained through experiments, analytical models and finite element simulation. To this end, SAE 1020 steel was hot processed in a duo rolling mill for reductions of 13%, 17% and 21% in height. Based on the performed experiments, a microstructural analysis was performed and a numerical model was proposed. Furthermore, these results were compared with different analytical models to determine the process characteristics. The numerical model obtained the better approximation among the approached models, with a discrepancy in the order of ±0.005mm in comparison with the measured values of the real deformation in width direction, what represents a relative error of 0.03%. Furthermore, the calculated force through simulation presented results closer to the ones measured experimentally presenting a good fit for the proposed model and hot rolling process. Finally, the processed microstructure migrated from elongated to equiaxed grains arising from the dynamic recrystallization mechanism. This study shows that numerical simulation had become an important tool to assess the development of rolling processes as they can predict the final geometry and forces with good correlation with real processing conditions
Study of the Clinical Impact of Drugs Interactions of Acenocoumarol
One of the problems linked to the use of acenocoumarol in therapy is the intra and interindividual variability of the doses necessary to obtain the desired INR; this may be due to several factors, including drug interactions. This is how we felt the need and the importance of undertaking this work which aims to identify the drugs most likely to interact with acenocoumarol and to assess the risk level of these interactions. This is a prospective, single-center cross-sectional study from January 01, 2017 until April 30, 2017, conducted at the pharmacovigilance service of the Oran EHU. In order to assess the risk level of an interaction, we used an interaction weighting method which allowed us to calculate the criticality indices (CI). The results highlighted 22 drugs at high risk of interacting with acenocoumarol of which amiodarone, omeprazole and diclofenac sodium are the most involved. This work was carried out with the aim of optimizing and securing acenocoumarol treatment
The Benefits of an Integrated Supply Chain Quality Management
Although both have as referential customer satisfaction, Total Quality Management and Supply Chain Management strategies are rarely applied together, the element that differentiates them is precisely the way of approaching quality within the company or in the entire supply chain. This paper aims at highlighting aspects regarding the application of Total Quality Management principles in the supply chain, analyzing the most common practices in the field of Supply Chain Management and representing the benefits resulting from the integrated approach of these two strategies
Agronomical Stabilization of Umuda-Isingwu Erosion Site Using Vetiver Grass
Soil erosion and embankment failures are serious challenges confronting our environment. In the face of these challenges, different possible solutions are been studied at different levels with special consideration on the implementation cost of such solutions. Hence, this work studied agronomical stabilization of Umuda- Isingwu erosion site using vetiver grass. The principal objective of this study was to determine the stability of an engineered slope by computing the factor of safety (FS) of the samples collected from the embankment on the erosion site. To ascertain the factor of safety, the soil samples collected from the study area were analyzed to determine its gradation by mechanical sieving and hydrometer method, while the density bottle was used to estimate the density of the samples which when multiplied by acceleration due to gravity of 9.81m/s2 gave the unit weight of samples. The results showed that the soil samples are coarse sand and loamy sand, unit weight of bare and Vetiver rooted samples as 17.40KN/m3 and 16.62KN/m3 respectively, average shear strength of the bare soil samples and Vetiver rooted soil samples as 68.52KN/m2 and 132.32KN/m2 respectively and the factor of safety of the samples; bare and Vetiver rooted soils were computed to be 1.72 and 2.98 respectively. These computed factors of safety showed that Vetiver rooted samples are about 1.73 times more stable than the bare soil. Hence, Vetiver grass is a good embankment and erosion site stabilizer and should be put to effective use in the area erosion control and slope stabilization in Nigeria.
Effect of Pre-treated Oil-based Drill Cuttings on the Compressive Strength of Sandcrete Blocks
This study examines the drill cuttings on the compressive strength of mortar blended with thermally desorbed drill cuttings and Portland-limestone cement grade 42.5R. The thermally desorbed drill cuttings was used as a partial substitute for Portland-limestone cement. Replacement levels of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% were used. The chemical oxide composition, initial and final settings times and the compressive strengths of the blended mortar were determined at curing period of 7 days, 28 days and 90 days respectively. The ANOVA analysis showed that the replication means are not significantly different at 5% probability level, while the coefficient of variability obtained is 10.9% which is within the acceptable limit of less than 20%. Also, the results showed that the treatment means are significantly different at 5% probability level and within the acceptable limit of coefficient of variability which is the degree of precision with which the treatments were compared. Hence, this indicates that the 95% probability that the conclusion of the treatment mean being different is correct, keeping other experimental variables constant. Therefore, partial replacement of cement with the pretreated oil based drill cuttings at different replacement levels has a significant effect on the compressive strength of the sandcrete blocks produced
Contamination of Cadmium and Mercury along the East Coast of the Gulf of Thailand: A Comparative Study Using the Green Mussel (Perna viridis), Artificial Mussel, Water and Sediment
We compared Cd and Hg concentrations in green mussel (Perna viridis) in wet and dry seasons along the Gulf of Thailand affected by different anthropogenic activities (Angsila - aquaculture, Sriracha - shipping, and Maptaphut - heavy industry). Levels of Cd in green mussels from Angsila during wet (mean ± SD 1.72 ± 0.20 µg/g dry wt.) and dry seasons (1.21 ± 0.52 µg/g dry wt.) were significantly higher than those in Sriracha and Maptaphut. Likewise, levels of Cd in artificial mussel (AM) were also highest in Angsila. Mean concentration of Hg in green mussels fluctuated only within a narrow range (0.07- 0.08 µg/g dry wt.) at all sites in the wet season, but was significantly lower in the dry season (0.03 µg/g dry wt.). Maptaphut had the highest Hg concentration in sediment during the dry season (0.17 ± 0.11 µg/g dry wt.). In contrast, level of Hg in mussel was 2-3 times higher in the wet season than the dry season at all sites.
Nevertheless, levels of Cd and Hg in mussel and sediment at all sites were still below the national Seafood/Sediment quality standards established in other countries. No significant correlation was found between level of Cd in mussels with those in AM and sediment or between sediment and AM. This research has successfully used the AM for monitoring of Cd, indicating both mussels and AM can provide a reliable estimate on Cd contamination in the aquatic environment
