    A Systematic Integration and Simulation of Transportation Network to Asses Efficiency Maximization: A Case of Benapole Land Port, Bangladesh

    Systematic transportation network and orderly circulation system is vital for the effective functioning of a land port facility. Benapole Port, the largest land port of entry in Bangladesh, located on Bangladesh- India border in Jashore. It handles most of the cross-border trade as well as a large number of passengers and trucks of goods are passed through this point every day. Due to lack of systematic organization and orderly traffic circulation control the port facility is unable to function at its full efficiency, resulting in traffic congestions, processing delay and systematic losses. The key challenge is to resolve the circulation network adequately and systematically to maneuver the cross-border traffic and cargo by the means of providing well organized traffic network, compaction of facilities, dedicated circulation system and smooth process flow of port activities. Through conduction of extensive site survey and in-depth data analysis the fundamental issues and remedial requirements forecasts are identified. By the means of computer aided simulation for comparison between multiple alternatives of traffic network distribution and circulation system the possible most suitable alternative can be assessed. The efficiency of this prevailed circulation system is supported by the results of the simulation, which can be able to optimize the addressed issues, also ensures maximized efficiency of the port functioning. Furthermore, either as a goods or tourists exchange point, Benapole Port has paramount importance and have potential to become a landmark establishment

    Design and Implementation of a Mobile-Based Home Security System

    The security of homes and properties has always been a crucial concern as the rate of burglary and home breaking has been on the increase all through the years. Although various solutions have been proposed to tackle the problem, burglary and home breaking are still rife everywhere every day. The proposed research is a low-cost, highly configurable, and mobile home security system that secures homes from illegal entities attempting to gain illegal entry into such homes. The system was implemented using Arduino with ATmega2560 microcontroller, which was interfaced with a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor, a 16x2 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen, a 4x4 matrix keypad, a Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) module, and a burglar alarm. The physical home security system was simulated using Proteus 8 Professional simulation software, while Arduino Integrated Development Environment (AIDE) and the C programming language were used to program the microcontroller instructions on the Arduino ATmega2560 microcontroller. Furthermore, Android Studio and the Java programming language were used to develop an Android mobile application to control and interact with the physical home security system. The results from the system were depicted in snapshots taken during the implementation and testing of the system. Judging from the research findings, it is imperative to adopt this system as a means of effectively securing homes from illegal intrusion. Further research could be done as an add-on to ensure security from internal threats within homes, such as fire and gas leakages with the addition of more sensors

    The Use of Scilab-Cloud for Teaching Digital Signal Processing Concepts in Electrical Engineering Curricula

    The digital signal processing (DSP) is a relevant area in the electrical/computer engineering field, since several applications have been observed during the past decades. On the other hand, students have demonstrated difficulties to understand not only the eventual applications, but also its mathematical concepts and theory. Actually, open source packages are available and increasing, but the use of these tools are not very widespread in electrical engineering curriculum. This paper presents the use of Scilab-Cloud software platform for teaching some fundamentals of digital signal processing in undergraduate level, particularly for electrical engineering curriculum. Therefore, some experiments have carried out with undergraduate electrical engineering students and a questionnaire answered by them evidenced the potential of Scilab-Cloud as an interesting alternative tool to foster and motivate students for learning DSP skills

    Power Link Budget Analysis to Run Optic Fiber Cables for Connection Between Mabutsane and Motokwe Villages in Botswana

    This paper presents design considerations and field implementation of low-cost optical fiber system to a small village approximately 87 Km to the north of Mabutsane, called Motokwe. The optical power link budget of two single mode Optical Fiber cables were considered and compared. The considerations to be made were the system margin, received power, and input power of either cables. Both cables were simulated using MATLAB and their respective results were obtained. The most suitable system was subsequently selected for the implementation. In this instance, the most suitable system was one that required the least amount of input power, least losses and had a considerably large system margin (at least 10dB)

    Integration Between Lean Manufacturing and Other Quality Tools: A Scale Development

    In order to improve organization’s performance, both in quality and productivity, several quality programs were created and implemented, with recent highlight to Lean Manufacturing (LM). All these initiatives are based on the involvement of employees, managers and organizational procedures, and it is expected that there will be some interaction between them. This paper describes the development and validation of a multi-item scale, an instrument which measures how employees perceive the integration between a production system based on the principles of Lean Manufacturing with other quality tools already used in the companies. The method included analyzes related to apparent validity, content validity, total item correlations, factor analysis and reliability. A questionnaire submitted to 317 respondents from a population of 1,699 employees of a metal-mechanic company included a proposed scale of 10 items to evaluate the integration between LM and other quality tools. After the analysis of the data, two questions were excluded because they did not present relevant factor loadings and the other eight questions resulted in two factors (Structure of integration of SP with other tools and Results in integration between SP and other tools). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that these factors constituted a model with good fit

    Comparison of Antioxidant and Anti-collagenase Activities Ethanol Extract of Black Soybeans with Daidzein Compounds

    Aging is a natural process in human life; one of the triggers is free radicals. The use of antioxidants from natural ingredients is an effort to overcome premature aging and counteract the harmful effects caused by free radicals. Black soybean (Glycine soja), which easily obtained in Indonesia, contains a nutritional value that is very good for human health. The protein content is quite high (40.4 g / 100g) and rich in antioxidants. The results presented in this study revealed that black soybean extract (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) Had a higher antioxidant activity of FRAP compared to Daidzein compounds, black soybean extract had antiaging activity through better collagenase inhibition compared to Daidzein compounds. The largest FRAP activity at 50 ?g / mL black soybean extract concentration was 146.35 ?M Fe (II) / ?g) and Daidzein 50 ?g / mL concentration was 96.93 (?M Fe (II) / ?g). Anticolagenase activity based on the IC50 value of black soybean extract was 84.73 ?g / mL, and Daidzein was 98.18 ?g / mL. From the above results, it can conclude that ethanol extract of black soybeans has excellent potential as an antioxidant that is useful as inhibiting collagenase

    Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) and Inhibition of Collagenase Enzyme Activity from Ethanol Extract of Pineapple (Ananas cosmus (L.) Merr) Core

    Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) is one of aerobic respiration products in cells which cause aging. Pineapple core is able to protect skin healthy by reducing reactivity from ROS, inhibiting oxidation, absorbing UV light, suppressing enzyme activity (such as collagenase), reducing the formation of wrinkles on the skin and protecting the skin from aging. This study aimed to investigate antiaging effect of pineapple core by their antioxidant and anti-collagenase activity. Determination of Antioxidant activity was using FRAP Methods while Inhibition of Collagenase assay was using Collagenase Enzyme from Clostridium histolyticum. The result of this study was expressed by Mean ± SD and analysed by One-Way ANOVA test and followed by the Post Hoc Test with the Tukey HSD test while Inhibition of collagenase were followed to analyse by simultaneous analysis of linear regression then determined the value of Inhibition Concentration 50 (IC50). At the highest concentration (50 µg/ml) from each sample were shown highest FRAP activity were 149.92±0.75 µg Fe2+ for ethanol extract of pineapple core and 255.05±1.04 µg Fe2+ for luteolin. Same as FRAP Activity, Inhibition of Collagenase assay at the highest concentration (250 µg/ml) from each sample were shown highest percent of collagenase inhibition were 64.62 ± 0.73% for ethanol extract of pineapple core and 81.22 ± 1.00%for luteolin while IC50 value of collagenase inhibition activity are shown that ethanol extract of pineapple core has moderate inhibition activity. Whether FRAP activity or Inhibition of Collagenase activity aren’t potent as luteolin compound as comparison

    A Digital Data Acquisition System for High Subsonic Speed Wind Tunnels

    The need to reduce time and cost of running high speed (transonic & supersonic) wind tunnels and to obtain reliable experimental data is very essential to the academic and industrial worlds of aviation. Data acquisitioning technology together with the advents in computer programming made the prospects of upgrading old technology wind tunnels (those manually driven and using mercury or water manometers) a reality. Simple hardware and software are available and are cheap and very effective and can be easily installed for the purposes stated. The present paper describes a data acquisition system, suggested and installed, by the author for use on the supersonic wind tunnel at the university of Hertfordshire/UK. The tunnel layout and the acquisition system are described together with some of the validation experimental runs. The experiments were carried out originally as part of the author’s PhD research work investigating the effects of aerofoil surface irregularities at high subsonic speeds using the viscous Garabedian & Korn (VGK) method [1]
