    On the Uniquness of Solutions of Linear Ordinary Fractional Differential Equations by Using Different Integral Transform Methods

    Analysis and Detection of DDoS Attacks Using Machine Learning Techniques

    Over the past years, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on Internet services and websites have dramatically increased. Several research teams designed defensive methodologies to handle the DDoS attacks. Using machine learning-based solutions have enabled researchers to detect DDoS attacks with complex and dynamic patterns. In this work, a subset of the CICIDS2017 dataset, including 200K samples and 84 features, was used to analyze the features and build models. A correlation analysis, as well as a tree-based feature importance exploration, were performed in the feature engineering step. Next, decision tree and support vector machine models were trained and tested to classify DDoS and Benign attacks. The results revealed that “Flow ID,” “SYN Flag Cnt,” and “Dst IP” had the most impact on attack detection. Also, the machine learning models classified the DDoS attacks, where the accuracy rates of close to 100% were achieved. The decision tree models showed slightly better performance than linear support vector machines. The results in this work highly matched the outcome of the original paper, which was to replicate

    Effect of the Phosphorus-Solubilizing Bacterium Enterobacter Ludwigii on Barley Growth Promotion

    Phosphorus (P) is essential for plant growth and development but is often a limiting nutrient in soils. Thus, Pi acquisition from the soil by plant roots is a subject of considerable interest in agriculture. One ecological alternative is the use of P-solubilizing bacteria, which make P available to plants through different mechanisms. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the role of the P-solubilizing bacterium Enterobacter ludwigii in the growth promotion and P content of Hordeum vulgare (barley) under field conditions. Plants were inoculated with E. ludwigii and then its growth promotion effects were compared with those of the reference strain Azospirillum brasilense. The effect of bacterial inoculation showed a beneficial effect on the dry weight, P assimilation and barley yield, especially in E. ludwigii-inoculated plants.  The plant P content at 60 DAS was 38% to 56% higher in E. ludwigii -inoculated plants with respect to non-inoculated plants. The application of bacteria without fertilizer led to the same biological yield (3,795 kg/ha) and increase in one thousand seed weight as the maximum dose of chemical fertilizer applied, while the application of bacteria along with the intermediate fertilizer dose led to a significant increase in grain size (83% of plump grains larger than 2.75 mm wide, whereas 76% of the grains of the control plants reached that size). Endophyte populations of the inoculated bacteria were observed in plants growing under field conditions. The results demonstrated that the inoculation of with E. ludwigii is a promising option to increase P levels in plants and could be a technique for application in agricultural industry

    Growth and Mortality of Mouth Brooding Tilapiines of the Kafue Floodplain Fishery, Zambia

    Growth and mortality of Oreochromis andersonii, Oreochromis macrochir and Oreochromis niloticusof the Kafue Floodplain fishery were investigated between September, 2015 and November, 2015. This study was aimed at investigating the growth and mortality of mouth brooding tilapiines of the Kafue Floodplain fishery. Three stations that represent the major ecological habitats of the Kafue Floodplain fishery were selected. These were: Kafue Road Bridge (swamp), Namalyo (lagoon) and Kakuzu (riverine). Fish specimens were collected using gillnets that were set in the evening and hauled the next morning. Length measurements were taken from each fish specimen using a fish measuring board. Weight was measured using a kitchen balance to the nearest one gramme. One-way Analysis of Variance was performed on all quantitative data using Statistix 9.0 software. Oreochromis niloticus showed the largest growth coefficient (k) of 0.22 while Oreochromis macrochir had the smallest growth coefficient of 0.10.  Oreochromis andersonii had a growth coefficient of 0.11. Exploitation ratios in the Kafue Floodplain fishery were found to be below the optimum value (0.5) except for Oreochromis macrochir (0.7). Oreochromis andersonii had an exploitation ratio of 0.3 while Oreochromis niloticus had an exploitation ratio of 0.4. This implies that the decrease in fish catches in the Kafue Floodplain fishery cannot be attributed to over-fishing but may be due to natural mortality

    Supply and Commercial Viability of Forage in Tanzania

    This study aimed at understanding the forage potential and current dynamics in Tanzania so as to improve forage supply chains that would in turn increase availability, accessibility and affordability of forage to smallholder dairy farmers in North Eastern Tanzania. The study was a cross sectional in design and data were collected from review of literature and from 85 respondents using key informant interviews and focused group discussions. The data collected was summarized using Microsoft Excel and market system/sub sector analytical tools. Sub-sector mapping analysis was used to map the core forage actors, product flows and interrelationships. Results indicate that forage sub-sector growth is pinned down by several systemic constraints associated with availability, accessibility and affordability including climate change effects, relative small land availability for grazing and for forage producers, inadequate quality and certified forage seed supply, inadequate extension services, relative high capital investments and inadequate market development in support of whole forage market system. Furthermore, results indicate that forage market system in Tanzania is still at its infancy stage as forage commercialization practices is dominated by very limited large forage businesses. Main commercial forage farms in Tanzania produce essentially hay. Pwani and Tanga regions account for about 62% of the total hectares under forage production. The supporting functions by public and private sector are scattered and no clear policy and regulatory environment in place to promote the forage industry, yet the main driver in animal husbandry is proper feeding regime. In 2016/17, about 1,150,916 bales of hay were produced by both public and private farms. Price of forage varied per season and the variation depended mainly on the availability and cost of transportation. In conclusion, improvement is needed in the production, preservation and commercialization of forage in order to meet the growing demand

    The Effects of Grants and the Marginal Cost of Public Funds: Evidence from Brazilian States

    The flypaper effect is the empirical anomaly by which intergovernmental grants tend to be transformed by recipient authorities into public expenditures at a considerably higher rate than local private resources. The objective of this research is to detect the existence and investigate the causes of the flypaper effect in the Brazilian states. Panel data evidence from 27 Brazilian states from 1985 to 2010 indicates the existence of a large flypaper effect, with an estimated impact of grants on public expenditures. Considering there are some ways to calculate MCF proxies, first, an autonomous index was used as a proxy of the marginal cost of public funds (MCF), because it represents how much the municipality can survive by itself, representing the municipalities’ independency to federal grants. Second, the MCF was calculated by the derivation of Proper Tax Revenue to the Total Revenues. The results show that the stimulative effect of grants on public spending increases with the MCF in both proxies, but it was stronger in the autonomous index proxy, in convergence to results of [5] to Canadian provincial data

This research has also been able to map out the spread of Tiktok over the past 3 years and how it has become a significant participant in the role of influencers, creating an entrepreneurial possibility with its growth. This research recommends further research into the use of popular social media apps and further monitoring of the expansion of the popularity of the usages of social media apps in general
