Treatment of Industrial Oil and Soap Wastewater by Using the Application of Electrocoagulation Process
Electrocoagulation (EC) treatment of oily and soap industrial wastewater was studied in this paper. Operating parameters such as operating time, medium pH, voltage density, and electrode material and chemical oxygen demand (COD) are being investigated in oil and soap removal efficiencies. The maximum efficiency of COD removal is achieved using aluminum electrodes was 96.92%. The performance of EC using aluminum as the electrode exhibited better COD and oil-grease (O&G) removal than the iron electrode. EC is an extremely promising industrial wastewater treatment technique because it is simple, economic and less sludge production technology, especially for oil and soap wastewater. The optimum conditions to achieve high COD removal efficiency of about 96.92% in 30 min was found to be in using initial pH value range 2–3, and a voltage of 20 volts
Reducing Over-consumption of Acid during Skim Latex Coagulation in Cameroon’s Rubber Processing Factories
Latex processing factories in Cameroon transform field latex to latex concentrate and skim latex is generated alongside, being poor in dry rubber content and high ammonia content, it is mostly coagulated as skim rubber, for use in rubber products. These factories face enormous problems with the overconsumption of acid during skim coagulation, which results to extra expenses and high acidic waste water production problems. Therefore the is a need to reduce the overconsumption of acid during skim coagulation. In order to solve this problem we started by identifying all possible causes of acid overconsumption at the factory using the ISHIKAWA diagram. We further hierarchized these causes using a Pareto diagram and sought out 3 main causes of great impact to be addressed which are: the low performance of the deammoniation process; poor practice of coagulation; negligence. We proposed solutions by optimising the deammoniation process at the tower i.e. controlling its skim and air flow rate inside the deammoniation tower to optimal values. Also we determine the optimal volume of acid needed for effective coagulation which when applied reduces acid consumption. Lastly we optimized by proposing a new mode of operations for the coagulation process. By implementing this new approach, we recorded an estimated total acid reduction of 28,924 L/month (347088L/ year) and this will enable the company to save money about 770,469 FCFA/month (21,245,639 FCFA/year). This approach can be adapted in any other rubber processing unit and will reduce acid overconsumption during skim latex coagulation
A Q-Learning Based Slice Admission Algorithm for Multi-Tier 5G Cellular Wireless Networks
Network slicing enables a 5G infrastructure provider (network infrastructure owner) to create multiple separate virtual networks, each tailored at a specific performance requirement, on a common physical network. In this context, slice admission algorithms are required to process slice requests received by the infrastructure provider. These algorithms are tailored to admit and allocate resources to network slices in a manner that results in the optimization of a given objective. In this paper, a Q-learning slice admission algorithm, which maximizes the infrastructure provider’s revenue, is designed. Results show that the designed algorithm learns from its environment, which enables it to acquire knowledge about the multi-tiered cellular network, thus allowing it make optimal slice admission decisions. The results further show that the designed algorithm has superior performance in terms of revenue achieved when compared to algorithms that admit, a) to maximize immediate rewards and b) slices in a random manner. 
Measuring Affordability of the Middle Income Group for Residential House Price in Real Estate Sector of Rajshahi, Bangladesh
Housing affordability has been an indicator of socio-economic status. Due to the rapid urbanization of developing countries like Bangladesh the dousing demand is always on a high. This increasing demand opposite to a lack of supply makes houses unaffordable for the middle income groups in the metropolitan cities like Rajshahi. This research is carried out to examine the level of housing affordability of the middle income groups in Rajshahi by using Price to Income Ratio (PIR) approach. PIR is applied to the residential units provided by the Real Estate agencies, which reveals that these are moderate to severely unaffordable for the target group. It is hoped that this paper could be able to provide a clear understanding useful insight on housing affordability for the middle-income group of Rajshahi
An Anti-Cheating System for Online Interviews and Exams
Remote examination and job interviews have gained popularity and become indispensable because of both pandemics and the advantage of remote working circumstances. Most businesses and educational organizations use these platforms for recruitment as well as online exams. However, one of the critical problems of the remote examination systems is conducting the exams in a reliable environment. In this work, we present a cheating analysis pipeline for online interviews and exams. The system only requires a video of the candidate, which is recorded during the exam by using a webcam without a need for any extra tool. Then cheating detection pipeline is employed to detect the presence of another person, electronic device usage, and candidate absence status. The pipeline consists of face detection, face recognition, object detection, and face tracking algorithms. To evaluate the performance of the pipeline we collected a private video dataset. The video dataset includes both cheating activities and clean videos. Ultimately, our pipeline presents an efficient and fast guideline for detecting and analyzing cheating actions in an online interview and exam video
Response Surface Methodology and Genetic Algorithms Applied to Model and Optimize the Dyeing of Cotton Process with the Reactive Black 5 Dyestuff
This work aimed to combine response surface methodology and genetic algorithms to model and optimize the dyeing process to show the influences of each component in the dyeing of cotton knit to optimize its dyeing conditions. A 26 design of central composite and rotational (DCCR) was used as support to execute seventy-eight dyeings with Reactive Black 5 dyestuff (RB5) on 100% knitted cotton substrate. The impacts of various dyeing process parameters were also investigated. The concentrations of [RB5] (percent), [NaCl] (g/L), [Na2CO3] (g/L), and [NaOH] (mL/L), as well as processing time (min) and temperature (°C), were employed. The K S-1 coefficient and the costs of each experiment were calculated as a result. The objective function was derived from the fitting of the experimental points using the least-squares method and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings revealed that both techniques can be efficiently applied to model and optimize the cotton dyeing, with the goal of lowering the cost and environmental impact
Motor Skill Training Effects on Coordination and Reaction Time in 6 - 16 Years Old Children with ASD and DS
ASD is becoming one of the most common pediatric cases in the world and several research studies report an increased ASD prevalence. DS is a genetic disorder caused when abnormal cell division results in an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21. Main objective of this study was to investigate motor skill training effects on coordination and reaction time in 6 - 16 years old children with ASD and DS. 21 children with ASD 20 children with DS became part of this study. 3 tests were used to evaluate the motor skills: 1. Grooved Pegboard Test (mod 7446). 2. Box and Blocks Test. 3. Ruler Drop Test. A 12 weeks exercise training program 3 times/week, including; cardiovascular exercise, short and fast jogging, flexibility exercises and gross motor control exercises. Each group was assigned to an exercise station (total 5 stations), with a total of 20 min. Repeated measures Motor skill training had a positive effect on eye-hand-subject coordination and reaction time in the subjects participated in this study showing that this type of exercise, if possible, can and should be included in the overall rehabilitation therapy for this category
Fatigue Life Assessment of 5083 “O” Aluminum Alloy Joints Welding by The MIG Process
In order to analyse the fatigue resistance of joints welded by the MIG process in aluminium alloy 5083 “O”, the present study analyses the influence of the shielding gases used during welding in the final strength of the product when it is subjected to fatigue stresses. The welds were made using two gas configurations, the first configuration being with 100% argon and the second with 75% argon and 25% helium. The results indicate that with the use of 25% helium compared to 100% argon it is possible to reduce the porosity present in the melted area of the joints and increase fatigue life for the conditions with cyclical loads of 80 and 60% of the maximum tension of the materials
Spatial Analysis of the Variables Involved in the Frequency and Severity of Traffic Accidents on Rural Highways in Pernambuco
Traffic safety depends on a lot of factors associated with traffic accidents and where it takes place. Analyzing how variables related to traffic accidents influences on its frequency and severity may help on the proposition of significant improvement to the effective reduction of said accidents. The goal of this research is to analyze the impact of contributing factors to traffic accidents of any kind, reducing the number of variables related to the statistic model, adjusting it to the brazilian reallity. The methodology was applied in a case study in a 255km patch of a simple lane countryside highway in the state of Pernambuco. Statistics trials were taken to quantify its possible effects on the frequency and severity of traffic accidents. The analysis showed significant factors that contribute to the frequency and severity of the observed accidents. These factors were the amount of traffic (VDMA), radius of the horizontal curve, greide, age range and day of the week. Even though most of the accidents happened in tangent patches, the most severe accidents take place in turns. It also shows that young people between 18 and 30 years old are 22,7% more likely to get involved in fatal accidents than adults over 50 years old, and that in the weekends the chances of an accident occuring is 67% higher than during a week day. The analysis may be used to provide information on future reviews of parameter selection guidelines, especially regarding turns, based on the main parameters of the highway design to reduce risk of accidents in turns
Assessing Thermal Performance of Mud House Using ECOTECT Analysis - A Case of Vernacular Architecture in Northern Bangladesh
Mud is one of the predominant vernacular building materials in rural settlements in Bangladesh, especially in the northern region because of its unique thermal performance. Mud being a very cheap, abundant, and environmentally friendly building material, is used extensively for building construction in the subcontinent. Mud as a building material has high heat capacity and low thermal conductivity which enhances the thermal stability of earthen building compared to other materials. This paper aims at analyzing the thermal performance of residential earthen buildings in northern Bangladesh and providing a basis for designing mud houses in rural Bangladesh according to environmental considerations. The resultant data from thermal simulation conducted in ‘Ecotect Analysis’ software shows that mud houses keep the indoor environment comparatively cooler than the outdoor warm environment during summer and the opposite during winter season which results in proper thermal comfort for the inhabitants
