    Evaluation and transcription of Kozan Mutasarrifi Musa Kâzim's work titled 'Muhtira-i Ri̇câl ve Siyâsiyyûn'

    Kozan Mutasarrıf-ı Esbakı Musa Kazım Efendi, "Muhtıra-i Rical ve Siyasiyyûn" adlı eserinde, Hz. Adem'den başlamak üzere peygamberler tarihi, antik medeniyetler, orta çağ dönemi, İslam tarihi, Osmanlı tarihi ve özelde ise II. Abdülhamid devrinden kitabın yazıldığı 1911 yılına kadar olan olayları anlatmıştır. Yazar eserinde, dünyanın birçok yerinde ortaya çıkan devletlerin kurulma ve yıkılma süreçlerini, bu devletlerin önemli yöneticilerini, sanatçılarını, bilim insanlarını ve din adamlarını tanıtmaya çalışmıştır. "Muhtıra-i Rical ve Siyasiyyûn" adlı eser beş bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci Bölüm, M.Ö. 5000 yılında Hz. Âdem ve Hz. Havva'nın dünyaya gelişi ve sonrasındaki 4200 senelik olayları kapsamaktadır. İnsanlığın bu uzun döneminde yazı bulunmadığından olaylar ayrıntılı olarak sunulamamaktadır. İkinci Bölüm, M.Ö. 776'dan Hz. İsa'nın doğumuna kadar olan 800 yıllık olayları kapsamaktadır. Bu bölümde esas olarak Mısır, Antik Yunan, Roma, Hellen ve Pers kültürlerinden, önemli yöneticilerinden ve kendi dönemlerinde meydana gelen gelişmelerden bahsedilmektedir. Üçüncü Bölümde, Hz. İsa'nın doğumundan Mekke'den Medine'ye hicrete kadar olan 622 yıllık olaylar anlatılmaktadır. Bizans, Sasani, Orta Asya Türkleri, Çin, Hint gibi medeniyetler ve Hz. Muhammed'in Devri anlatılmaktadır. Dördüncü Bölümde, 622 yılından 1299 yılına kadar olan 677 yıllık olaylar içerisinde İslam Devletleri, Türk İslam devletleri ve Moğollar gibi devletler ve bunun yanında diğer bölgelerde, Avrupa'da meydana gelen olaylar da anlatılmaktadır. Beşinci Bölümde ise 1299 yılından 1910 yılına kadar olan 611 yıllık olaylar, kişiler ve devletler anlatılmaktadır. Yazar bu dönemin en önemli devletleri arasında yer alan Osmanlı Devleti'ni her padişahı ayrı bir başlık altında kronolojiye uygun olarak ele almaktadır. Bunun yanında Avrupa'da meydana gelen Coğrafi Keşifler, Rönesans, Reform, Fransız İhtilali, Sanayi Devrimi ve sonrasında meydana gelen gelişmeler ile dünyanın diğer bölgelerindeki gelişmeler de açıklanmaktadır. .İn his book titled "Muhtıra-i Rical ve Siyasiyyûn", Musa Kazım Efendi, the former Governor of Kozan, describes the history of the prophets starting from Hz. Adam, ancient civilisations, the Middle Ages, Islamic history, Ottoman history and in particular the events from the reign of Abdülhamid II until 1911 when the book was written. In his work, the author has tried to introduce the establishment and collapse processes of the states that emerged in many parts of the world, important rulers, artists, scientists and clergymen of these states. The work titled "Muhtıra-i Rical ve Siyasiyyûn" consists of five chapters. The first chapter covers the birth of Adam and Eve in 5000 BC and the events of 4200 years afterwards. Since there was no writing in this long period of humanity, the events cannot be presented in detail. The second part covers the events of 800 years from 776 BC to the birth of Jesus Christ. In this section, mainly Egyptian, Ancient Greek, Roman, Hellenic and Persian cultures, important rulers and developments in their respective periods are mentioned. The third chapter covers the events of 622 years from the birth of Jesus Christ to the migration from Mecca to Medina. Civilisations such as Byzantine, Sassanid, Central Asian Turks, Chinese, Indian civilisations and the Age of Prophet Muhammad are described. In the fourth chapter, the events of 677 years from 622 to 1299, Islamic States, Turkish Islamic states and states such as the Mongols, as well as events in other regions and Europe are also described. In the fifth chapter, the events, people and states of 611 years from 1299 to 1910 are described. The author deals with the Ottoman Empire, which is among the most important states of this period, under each sultan under a separate heading in accordance with the chronology. In addition, the Geographical Discoveries in Europe, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution and the developments that occurred afterwards and the developments in other parts of the world are also explained.     Gynecomastia on Thoracic Computed Tomography

    Background and objective Gynecomastia is a benign proliferation of ductal epithelium in the retroareolar region in male patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of gynecomastia in male patients who underwent thoracic computed tomography (CT) imaging at our clinic, assess possible causes, highlight the imaging characteristics of gynecomastia, and compare our findings with the literature. Materials and methods Male patients over 18 years of age who underwent thoracic CT imaging in our clinic were included in the study. Patients were initially assessed based on age and the presence of gynecomastia. The patients with gynecomastia were evaluated in terms of age, gynecomastia localization (right, left, and bilateral), gynecomastia type (nodular, dentritic, and diffuse), and possible etiology. Results The study included 1500 patients with a mean age of 45.6 +/- 21.7 years, and 470 (31.3%) patients had gynecomastia. Gynecomastia was on the right side in 11.3%, on the left side in 11.1%, and bilateral in 77.7% of the patients. Gynecomastia was nodular in 52.1%, dendritic in 35.3%, and diffuse in 17.2% of the patients. The causative factor could not be identified in 44.3% of the patients with gynecomastia. Among cases where the etiology was identified (56.7%), the most common factors were cancer (23.4%), chronic kidney disease (CKD) (13.2%), and chronic hepatitis B (10.7%). Conclusion When evaluating thoracic CT, the breast area, in addition to the lungs, chest wall, and bone structures, should also be evaluated carefully. With the increased use of thoracic CT scans, incidentally detected gynecomastia in patients is also on the rise. Knowing the presence of gynecomastia is very important for the clinician to determine the etiology and treat the underlying disease. Therefore, detecting and reporting gynecomastia on thoracic CT can prevent unnecessary advanced breast imaging methods and play a very important role in treating the underlying etiology

    Removal of lead (II) and toluidine blue from wastewater with new magnetic Bacillus niacini nano-biosorbent

    In this study, dead Bacillus niacini microorganisms were used to support the immobilization of magnetic iron nanoparticles, creating a magnetic nano-biosorbent for wastewater treatment through magnetic separation. Magnetic nano-biosorbent was characterized via scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis, and vibration sample magnetometry techniques. The laser particle sizer confirmed a uniform distribution in the particle agglomerate sizes of magnetic iron nanoparticles and magnetic nano-biosorbent, affirming successful composite formation. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed Bacillus niacini specific elements, and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry indicated effective Bacillus niacini coating onto magnetic iron nanoparticles. Magnetic nano-biosorbent's efficacy for toluidine blue and lead (II) removal, considering pH, contact time, magnetic nano-biosorbent dosage, and initial pollutant concentrations, was assessed. Langmuir isotherms described toluidine blue and lead (II) biosorption optimally. Kinetic data matched the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models, implying multiple biosorption mechanisms. Magnetic nano-biosorbent displayed a biosorption capacity of 66.52 +/- 0.68 mg/g for lead (II) and 82.88 +/- 0.79 mg/g for toluidine blue. Reusability tests showed effective reuse for up to five cycles.     Treatment outcomes and prognostic factors in patients with driver mutant non-small cell lung cancer and de novo brain metastases

    Central nervous system (CNS) metastases can be seen at a rate of 30% in advanced stages for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Growing evidence indicates the predictive roles of driver gene mutations in the development of brain metastases (BM) in recent years, meaning that oncogene-driven NSCLC have a high incidence of BM at diagnosis. Today, 3rd generation targeted drugs with high intracranial efficacy, which can cross the blood-brain barrier, have made a positive contribution to survival for these patients with an increased propensity to BM. It is important to update the clinical and pathological factors reflected in the survival with real-life data. A multi-center, retrospective database of 306 patients diagnosed with driver mutant NSCLC and initially presented with BM between between November 2008 and September 2022 were analyzed. The median progression-free survival (mPFS) was 12.25 months (95% CI, 10-14.5). While 254 of the patients received tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), 51 patients received chemotherapy as first line treatment. The median intracranial PFS (iPFS) was 18.5 months (95% CI, 14.8-22.2). The median overall survival (OS) was 29 months (95% CI, 25.2-33.0). It was found that having 3 or less BM and absence of extracranial metastases were significantly associated with better mOS and iPFS. The relationship between the size of BM and survival was found to be non-significant. Among patients with advanced NSCLC with de novo BM carrying a driver mutation, long-term progression-free and overall survival can be achieved with the advent of targeted agents with high CNS efficacy with more conservative and localized radiotherapy modalities

    Biological activities and phytochemical investigation of some Sideritis species

    One of the most generally used plants for herbal tea is Sideritis L. species (Lamiaceae) which is commonly grown in the Mediterranean region and represented by 46 species and 53 taxa in Türkiye. Sideritis species are widely used in Türkiye due to their antispasmodic, antirheumatic, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic activities. In the present research, the effects against oxidative stress, and enzyme activitiy, as well as chemical compositions of the water and methanol extracts of seven Sideritis species (S. bilgeriana P.H. Davis), S. brevidens P.H. Davis, S. cilicica Boiss. & Balansa, S. erythrantha Boiss. & Heldr., subsp. cedretorum P. H. Davis, S. hololeuca Boiss. & Heldr., S. libanotica Labill. subsp. linearis (Benth.) Bornm., and S. libanotica Labill. subsp. violascens P. H. Davis.). Its main objective was to assess the suppression of five enzymes, tyrosinase, α-glucosidase, α-amylase, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and butyrylcholinesterase, for the water and methanol extracts of seven different Sideritis species. The extracts were also assessed for antioxidant effects using various spectrophotometric methods involving DPPH,ABTS·+, and iron chelating, as well as the determination of total phenol and flavonoid amounts. As for the phytochemical investigation on Sideritis species, the phenolic compounds of the extracts were determined by LC-MS/MS analysis. Because of the LC-MS/MS analysis, Hierarchical Cluster Analysis was performed on four major components: quinic acid, chlorogenic acid, fumaric acid, and acacetin in the present work. As a result, our research indicates that Sideritis species, particularly S. cilicica, S. erythrantha, and S. libanotica subsp. linearis, deserve to be examined afterwards for their active secondary metabolites, which are thought to be responsible for their potential biological activities.     A New Spectrophotometric Method for Determination of Carvedilol from Tablet

    In this study, a new spectrophotometric method was developed for the quantitative analysis of Carvedilol and the method was validated. The method depends on the reaction between the carvedilol and 1,2,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone in methanol to yield colored charge transfer complex giving maximum absorbance at 560 nm. For optimization of the proposed method, several parameters were investigated such as solvent type, reaction time, and quinalizarin concentration. The stoichiometry of colored charge transfer complex was found to be 2:1(reagent: drug) by Job’s method. Beer’s Law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0.5-60 µg/mL with 0.9986 correlation efficient. Limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantifiqation (LOQ) were found 0.147 µg/mL, 0.491 µg/mL, respectively. The proposed method can be successfully applied pharmaceutical formulation

    Prediction and comparative analysis of emissions from gas turbines using random search optimization and different machine learning-based algorithms

    Gas turbines are widely used for power generation globally, and their greenhouse gas emissions have increasingly drawn public attention. Compliance with environmental regulations necessitates sophisticated emission measurement techniques and tools. Traditional sensors used for monitoring emission gases can provide inaccurate data due to malfunction or miscalibration. Accurate estimation of gas turbine emissions, such as particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides, is crucial for assessing the environmental impact of industrial activities and power generation. This study used five different machine learning models to predict emissions from gas turbines, including AdaBoost, XGBoost, k-nearest neighbour, and linear and random forest models. Random search optimization was used to set the regression parameters. The findings indicate that the AdaBoost regressor model provides superior prediction accuracy for emissions compared to other models, with an accuracy of 99.97% and a mean squared error of 2.17 on training data. This research offers a practical modelling approach for forecasting gas turbine emissions, contributing to the reduction of air pollution in industrial applications

    The Effect of Apomorphine Therapy in the Coexistence of Parkinson's Disease and Myasthenia Gravis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Background: The simultaneous occurrence of Parkinson's disease (PD)-a progressive neurodegenerative disorder marked by the loss of monoaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra-and Myasthenia gravis (MG)-a neuromuscular junction disease-is exceptionally rare. Although these conditions have different pathophysiological foundations, literature reports at least 29 cases of individuals diagnosed with both disorders. Case Report: We present the case of a 66-year-old patient treated for Parkinson's disease for four years before being diagnosed with MG, following the onset of dysphagia and bilateral ptosis. Apomorphine infusion, an advanced treatment option, was safely initiated. Conclusion: This case highlights the coexistence of PD and MG and illustrates the potential benefits of apomorphine infusion therapy. Apomorphine was effective in reducing symptoms, improving motor function, and enhancing the patient's quality of life
