    Hayran kurgusunun yabancı dil olarak İngilizce eğitiminde drama pedagojisine entegrasyonu

    Bu çalışma, hayran kurgusu ve kuklanın üniversite düzeyindeki bir drama dersine entegrasyonunun, özellikle de resmi eğitim ortamlarındaki öğrenme çıktılarına yönelik dönüştürücü etkilerini incelemektedir. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını, 2023–2024 Bahar döneminde "İngilizce Öğretiminde Drama" adlı seçmeli dersi alan, çoğunluğu 20-21 yaşlarında olan 32 ikinci sınıf İngilizce Öğretmenliği (ELT) öğrencisi (18 kadın, 14 erkek) oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma öncesinde gerekli etik prosedürler yerine getirilmiş ve ilgili izinler alınmıştır. Veri toplama sürecinde öncesi-sonrası anketler, bireysel ve grup yansıtıcı raporlar, bireysel görüşmeler ve odak grup görüşmesi kullanılmıştır. Hayran kurgu etkinliklerinin derse entegrasyonu için Solmaz (baskıda) tarafından önerilen "Fictional Linguistic Landscapes in Language Teaching and Learning" (FLLinL2TL) adlı pedagojik çerçeve takip edilmiştir. Bu dört aşamalı yapı (Durumsal Uygulama, Yönlendirilmiş Keşif, Yaratım ve Dönüştürülmüş Uygulama), öğrencilere çeşitli drama tekniklerini öğretirken, hayran kurguyu da dil pratiği için yaratıcı bir araç olarak tanıtmaktadır. Katılımcılar, önceden belirlenmiş Harry Potter kaynağını kullanarak fikir üretme, senaryo yazma, kukla yapımı ve video kaydı yoluyla performans sergileme süreçlerine katılmıştır. Ardından, bu süreçle ilgili görüşlerini yansıtıcı raporlar, anketlerin açık uçlu soruları ve mülakatlar aracılığıyla paylaşmışlardır. Nicel veriler Excel tablolarına aktarılmış, nitel veriler ise dijital bir araç kullanılarak yazıya dökülmüş ve çeviri uygulamalarıyla doğrulandıktan sonra Creswell (2015) doğrultusunda içerik analizi yöntemine tabi tutulmuştur. Öğrencilerin ürettiği eserler (senaryolar, kuklalar, performans videoları) ve nitel geribildirimlerin analizi sonucunda beş temel tema ortaya çıkmıştır: "Beklentilerin Karşılanması," "Dil Gelişimi," "Çok Modlu Etkileşim Yoluyla Öğrenci Gelişimi," "Hayran Kurgusunun Pedagojik Bir Araç Olarak Algılanması" ve "Zorluklar, Eleştiriler ve Öneriler." Bulgular, hayran kurgu entegrasyonunun çoğu katılımcıda eğlenceli ve ilgi çekici bir format olarak beklentilerini karşıladığını ve yazma, konuşma, kelime dağarcığı, yaratıcılık, ekip çalışması ve öz güven konularında ilerlemeler kaydettiğini göstermektedir. Deneyimsizlik, lojistik sorunlar ve grup dinamikleriyle ilgili zorluklara rağmen, katılımcılar dış yardım, yapay zekâ araçları, demokratik oylama ve eğitmen geribildirimi gibi stratejilerle bu sorunları aşmıştır. Gelecekteki uygulamalara yönelik öneriler arasında farklı kurgu evrenlerinin keşfi, proje sürelerinin uzatılması, senaryo yazımı gibi konularda profesyonel desteğe başvurulması ve yöntemin farklı yaş grupları ile müfredat alanlarına uyarlanması yer almaktadır.This study investigates the effects of integrating fan fiction and puppetry into a university-level drama course, with particular emphasis on their transformative impact on learning outcomes within formal educational settings. The participants comprised 32 second-year English Language Teaching (ELT) students (18 female, 14 male), primarily between 20 and 21 years of age, who were enrolled in the elective course "Drama in ELT" during the 2023–2024 spring semester. All ethical protocols were observed, and requisite permissions were secured prior to the research. Data collection procedures included pre- and post-surveys, individual and group reflection papers, individual interviews, and a focus group discussion. To implement fan fiction in the course, the pedagogical framework "Fictional Linguistic Landscapes in Language Teaching and Learning" (FLLinL2TL), proposed by Solmaz (in press), was adopted. The four-stage structure (i.e., Situated Practice, Guided Exploration, Creation, Transformed Practice) guided learners through various drama techniques and introduced them to fan fiction as a creative avenue for language practice. Students engaged with the preselected source material, Harry Potter, by brainstorming ideas, writing scripts, creating puppets, and producing video-recorded performances. Subsequently, they shared their insights regarding this process via reflection papers, open-ended survey responses, and interviews. Quantitative survey data were compiled into Excel tables, while qualitative recordings were transcribed using a digital tool and validated through translation applications before undergoing content analysis (Creswell, 2015). The resulting analyses of both the student-produced artifacts (scripts, puppets, performance videos) and qualitative reflections led to five overarching themes: "Meeting the Expectations," "Language Development," "Learner Development through Multimodal Engagement," "Perceptions of Fan Fiction as a Pedagogical Tool," and "Challenges, Critiques, and Recommendations." These findings indicate that incorporating fan fiction into drama instruction not only met most participants' expectations through its entertaining and engaging format, but also promoted advancements in writing, speaking, vocabulary, creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence. Despite challenges related to inexperience, logistical factors, and group dynamics, participants resolved them using strategies such as external assistance, artificial intelligence tools, democratic voting, and instructor feedback. Recommendations for future applications include exploring diverse fictional universes, extending project timelines, seeking professional support (e.g., scriptwriters), and adapting the method for various age groups and curricular areas

    An experimental study of fracture parameters of concrete produced with basalt aggregate by peak-load method

    Limestone or river aggregates have been traditionally used as aggregates in ready-mixed concrete from the past to the present. The depletion of these natural aggregates used in ready-mixed concrete has led the concrete industry to investigate aggregate resources and search for alternative aggregates. In this study, natural rocks defined as basalt type from Karacada & gbreve;, located within the borders of Diyarbak & imath;r, & Scedil;anl & imath;urfa, and Mardin provinces in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of T & uuml;rkiye, were used as aggregate materials. The mechanical strength of concrete produced with basalt aggregate was examined. In order to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the produced basalt aggregate concretes, unit weight, compressive strength, and splitting tensile strength experiments were carried out on hardened concretes. In addition to the physical and mechanical properties of basalts, their chemical composition properties have been investigated. In the experimental study, crushed basalt aggregates with size fractions 0-5, 5-11.2, and 11.2-22.4 mm were used. The water/cement ratio of the concrete produced in the study was 0.45, and the selected cement contents were determined as 300 kg/m3, 350, and 400 kg/m3. The fracture parameters of the produced concrete were presented with the two-parameter fracture model (TPFM). Statistical analyses of this study show that the fracture parameters of cube samples made with basalt aggregate commonly found in the region are acceptable for use in construction sites

    Herein, the reactions of octachlorocyclotetraphosphazene (OCCP, 1) with sodium-3-ferrocenylmethyl-amino)-1-propanoxide (L1) gave hexachloro-ferrocenyl-(N/O)-spiro-2 and 2-cis-4-dichloro-ferrocenyl-(N/O)-ansa-3 cyclotetraphosphazenes in THF. Spiro- (2) reacted with excess 9-ethyl-N-methyl-3-carbazolyl-1,3-diaminopropane (L2) and 9-ethyl-N-ethyl-3-carbazolyl-1,2-diaminoethane (L3) to produce 2-trans-6-dispiro (dispiro-2a) and 2-trans-4-cis-6-trans-8-tetraspiro (tetraspiro-2b) cyclotetraphosphazenes, respectively. The reactions of ansa-3 with excess L2 led to the formation of monospiro {2-cis-4-dichloro-ansa-2-trans-6-spiro(N/N) (ansa-spiro-3b)} and dispiro {2-cis-4-dichloro-ansa-6-trans-8-dispiro(N/N) (ansa-dispiro-3b)} cyclotetraphosphazenes. However, the reactions of ansa-3 with excess 9-methyl-N-ethyl-3-carbazolyl-1,2-diaminomethane (L4) afforded 2-cis-4-dichloro-ansa-6-trans-8-dispiro(N/N) (ansa-dispiro-3a). Ansa-3 was also reacted with excess sodium 3-(9-ethyl-carbazolamino)-1-propanoxide (L5) to give 2-cis-4-dichloro-ansa-2-trans-6-spiro(N/O) (ansa-spiro-3c) and 2-cis-4-dichloro-ansa-6-trans-8-dispiro(N/O) (ansa-dispiro-3c) cyclotetraphosphazenes. Reactions were carried out by classical and microwave-assisted methods. These novel multi-heterocyclic inorganic/organic hybrid cyclotetraphosphazenes can offer valuable insights into developing new materials. Tetraspiro-2b and all ansa compounds have more than one stereogenic P-atom. The optical and electrochemical properties of some cyclotetraphosphazenes were investigated using UV-vis absorption and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. As a result, these phosphazenes can be suggested as ferrocene-based charge transformable structures. They can be used as new-generation and synergistic dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) materials. Additionally, antimicrobial activities of five compounds (dispiro-2a, ansa-spiro-3b, ansa-dispiro-3b, ansa-spiro-3c and ansa-dispiro-3c) against various pathogenic bacteria and yeasts were evaluated.     Evaluation of NAPLES prognostic score to predict long-term mortality in patients with pulmonary embolism

    Background/Objectives: Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) is a clinical syndrome characterized by the obstruction of blood flow in the pulmonary artery, whose main pathophysiological features are respiratory and circulatory dysfunction. Acute pulmonary embolism is associated with a high mortality rate. Diagnostic and therapeutic delays can exacerbate mortality and result in prolonged hospitalization. With the increasing understanding that APE is associated with inflammation, various indices based on systemic inflammation have been shown to predict prognosis in patients with APE. The NAPLES Prognostic Score (NPS) is a new scoring system that indicates the inflammatory and nutritional status of the patient based on albumin (ALB) levels, total cholesterol (TC) levels, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Our study aimed to examinate the effect of NPS on APE prognosis, so the relationship between NPS and APE prognosis was evaluated in our study. In addition, this study seeks to lay the groundwork for further investigations into this association and expand the existing body of knowledge. Methods: The clinical data of patients who applied to the Dicle University Faculty of Medicine and were diagnosed with APE between March 2014 and April 2024 were evaluated retrospectively, with 436 patients aged 18 years and over included in the study. Patients were divided into two groups according to NPS. It was statistically investigated whether there was a significant difference in long-term mortality between the two groups. Statistical analyses were performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0. Results: Survival was found to be statistically significantly lower in patients with NPS 3–4 (p 0.05). The short-term prognostic value of the NPS has been found to be equivalent to that of the sPESI score. It may be considered that APE patients with high NPS scores should be monitored more frequently. Conclusions: Increased NPS was found to be associated with poor APE prognosis in our study. © 2025 by the authors

    Relationships among growth, carcass characteristics, and Myf5 Myf6, MyoD, and MyoG genes expression level in saanen male kids with varying slaughter weights

    The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the MRF gene family members and slaughter characteristics in Saanen kids with varying slaughter weights. Twenty male kids of the Turkish Saanen breed were individually fattened for 60 days after weaning under an intensive management system. The kids were divided into two groups: low slaughter weight (L; n = 11; 29) at the end of the fattening. After slaughter, muscle samples from Longissimus-dorsi (LD) and Semitendinosus (ST) muscles were obtained. Carcass characteristics were higher in H than in L kids (p < 0.05). Myogenic Factor 5 gene expression level in the LD muscle of H kids was higher (p < 0.05) than that of L kids. A similar trend was observed regarding Myogenic Factor 6 and Myoblast Determination Factor gene expression levels in the LD muscle (p < 0.05). Also, the Myogenin gene expression level of H kids was higher than that of L kids in both muscles (p < 0.05). There were positive correlations among the slaughter weight, carcass characteristics, and some MRF gene expression levels in both muscles (p < 0.05) that the higher gene expression increases the weight and affects the carcass characteristics. The study results suggest that the difference in slaughter weight at the end of fattening in Saanen kids may be due to the expression level of myogenic regulatory factor (MRF) genes.     Evaluation of the relationship of chronotype, MIND diet, and lifestyle factors in overweight and obese people: Path analysis and structural equation modeling

    The effects of chronotype and diet on obese individuals have been reported in previous studies. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the Mediterranean-DASH intervention for neurodegenerative delay (MIND) diet, chronotype and lifestyle factors in different types of overweight and obese people. 1100 obese individuals participated in this cross-sectional study. Compliance with the MIND diet was questioned, anthropometric measurements were taken, and biochemical parameter results from patient records in the last week were examined. Chronotypes were determined with the A self-assessment questionnaire to determine morningness in human circadian rhythms scale. MIND diet score was inversely associated with the body mass index (BMI) [beta (SE) = -0.239 (0.11), p = 0.31] and waist circumference [beta (SE) = -0.026 (0.01), p = 0.028], explained 0.4% of BMI and 0.6% of WC. There was a significant relationship between poorer MIND diets and higher CRP levels. A positive correlation was found between an increased MEQ score and MIND diet only in overweight participants (correlation coefficient = 0.200, p < 0.05). Whole cereals and fish consumption were positively associated with chronotype scores, while the highest odds of red meats and fast/fried foods seemed to have a negative effect. As a result, it has been observed that individuals with a morning chronotype have higher compliance with the MIND diet and make healthier food choices.     Evaluation of risk factors associated with epicardial fat tissue thickness in patients with stage 4 and stage 5 chronic kidney disease

    Purpose: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global public health issue, often associated with high mortality and morbidity, especially due to cardiovascular diseases. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), the visceral fat surrounding the heart, has been recognized as a significant factor in cardiovascular risk. This study aims to assess the relationship between EAT and body composition in patients with stage 4 and 5 CKD using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Methods: The study included 80 patients with stage 4 and 5 CKD who were not on dialysis. Body composition was measured using BIA, and EAT was assessed using transthoracic echocardiography(ECHO). Exclusion criteria included heart failure, morbid obesity, pregnancy, and pacemaker use, among others. Various demographic, clinical, and biochemical parameters were also recorded. Results: Patients with stage 5 CKD (6.7 ± 0.12) had significantly higher EAT compared to stage 4 CKD (5.9 ± 0.09) patients. EAT showed a positive correlation with age, BMI, blood pressure, C-reactive protein (CRP), and triglyceride levels, and a negative correlation with albumin and HDL levels. Multivariate analysis revealed that increased systolic blood pressure(SBP)(p:0.019),fat tissue mass (FTM)(p < 0.001), low HDL(p: 0.027), and low albumin(p < 0.001) were independent predictors of EAT. Conclusion: EAT is higher in advanced CKD patients and is associated with several cardiovascular risk factors. Measuring EAT in CKD patients using non-invasive methods like ECHO could be valuable in predicting cardiovascular risks. Addressing the factors that contribute to increased EAT may improve clinical outcomes for CKD patients. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V. 2025

    Social support, resilience and life satisfaction in families with special needs children

    Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the intricate relationships among resilience, life satisfaction, and perceived social support in Turkish families raising children with special needs, emphasizing the importance of understanding these variables for enhancing family well-being. Design and methods: The study involved a sample of 317 parents of children with special needs. Pearson's correlation analysis was conducted due to the normal distribution of scale scores. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to explore the mediating effects of social support on the relationship between resilience and life satisfaction, with analyses performed using Jamovi 2.3.28. Results: The findings revealed a positive correlation between life satisfaction and resilience among these families and a strong association between perceived social support and life satisfaction. Conclusions: These results provide valuable insights into the development of support programs aimed at improving family resilience and life satisfaction. Practical implications: The involvement of pediatric nursing is crucial in implementing and designing these support programs to effectively address the unique challenges faced by families raising children with special needs

    Musical Hearing Education Youtube Videos: a Netnographic Study of Student Problems and İnstructors Responses

    In this study, musical hearing education was examined outside the traditional classroom environment and it was aimed to determine the problems experienced by the students and the solution suggestions of the instructors for these problems in line with the comments made on the videos on Youtube channels. A total of 405 comments and 167 responses from 317 videos from 7 Youtube channels were included in the study. Netnography method was used in the study and the data were analyzed by content analysis technique. MAXQDA 2020 package program was used for the content analysis process. It was observed that students encountered many problems in single tone, two tones (intervals), three tones, four tones, melody and rhythm repetition studies in musical hearing education. The category in which students made the most comments in musical hearing education studies was melody, followed by rhythm hearing. Students face many problems, especially melody and rhythm memory, such as inaccurate giving/not giving tones, not being able to evaluate themselves and realize their mistakes, and not knowing the working method. Although the instructors provide opinions, suggestions and recommendations for these problems, Youtube videos are insufficient for some problems that need to be solved face-to-face

    Enviroeconomic optimization of insulation thickness for building exterior walls through thermoeconomic and life cycle assessment analysis

    The economic optimum insulation thicknesses (OIT) for heated buildings in five different climate regions in Turkiye were determined, and the energy, cost, and life cycle-based environmental performances were analyzed. Calculations were performed using three different fuels (natural gas, fuel oil, and coal) and four different insulation materials: expanded polystyrene (EPS), rock wool (RW), glass wool (GW), and extruded polystyrene (XPS). This study utilized a thermoeconomic approach to evaluate energy and economic performance and a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach to assess environmental impacts, ensuring a comprehensive analysis of insulation strategies. The impacts of climate change factors were expressed as kg CO2 equivalent (kgCO2eq) using 100-years global warming potential (GWP). The annual energy savings varying from 18.41 to 258.15 kWh/(year.m2) for the warmer and the colder climate zones, respectively. The maximum avoided environmental impact (AEI) due to energy saved from thermal insulation was 144.11 kgCO2eq/(year.m2) for coal and RW in coldest climate zone, while the minimum AEI was 5.31 kgCO2eq/(year.m2) for natural gas and XPS in warmest climate zone. Among insulation materials, EPS offers the shortest environmental payback period, whereas RW requires the longest, highlighting material-specific trade-offs. In all climate zones, environmental payback periods are much shorter than economic ones.suggestions. Their insights have significantly improved the quality of this manuscript
