高機能バイオベースポリマーの創製 
 
 
再生可能な原料から分解・再利用可能な機能性ポリマーの設計・創製は、化石燃料由来の
ポリマーから持続可能な代替品への移行という観点から重要な課題と認識されている。そ
れ故、近年では再生可能な資源である非可食の植物油やリグニン、糖類、テルペン類等から
各種化学品の合成に関する研究が活発である。特に、植物油は化学修飾により脂肪酸や脂肪
酸エステルへの変換が可能で、近年では脂肪族ポリエステルの合成に有用な原料となるこ
とが報告されている 1,2)。当研究室では、ひまし油から誘導される脂肪酸エステルとグルコ
ースから誘導されるジオールから得られる対称型の α,ω-ジエンから、Ru 触媒による非環式
ジエンメタセシス（Acyclic Diene Metathesis, ADMET）重合と温和な条件下でのタンデム水
素化により、比較的高分子量の長鎖脂肪酸ポリエステルが得られることを報告している 3,4)。
ポリエステルは一般的に加工性に優れ、広範な用途で使用される一方で、植物由来のモノマ
ーから高機能性ポリマーの創製に関する報告は限定される。特に高強度を要求される材料
分野では、既存の石油由来プラスチックに相当する物性を有した植物由来ポリエステルの
合成・開発報告例は希少である 5)。高分子材料の強度の付与・物性改良には化学修飾や架橋
結合、無機系のフィラーや各種添加剤の添加等の手法が用いられるが、近年は植物資源由来
の素材である Cellulose Nanofiber（CNF）との複合化による高強度材料の開発が注目されて
いる 6)。しかし、一般的にプラスチックは疎水性、CNF は親水性であるために相溶性が悪
く、ミクロ構造での凝集が生じる故に均一な組成・構造の保持が困難で、物性にもムラが生
じることが問題として挙げられる。また、複合化により得られる物性への影響要因は依然明
らかになっていない 7)。 
以上の経緯より、本研究では、強靭な特性を備えた植物由来ポリエステルの創製を目的に、
(i) 異なる中間部位を有する直鎖状ポリエステルの合成と CNF 複合化による特性評価、(ii) 
架橋ポリマーと CNF との複合化による特性評価に関する研究に取り組んだ。 
 
【結果・考察】 
１． 各種直鎖ポリエステルの合成と CNF 複合化による物性への影響 
ポリマーの分子量やモノマー単位による物性への影響を理解するために、中間（ジオール）
部位の異なる（1,9-nonanediol, isosorbide, isomannide, tetraethylene glycol と長鎖脂肪酸エステ
ルからのトランスエステル化により）4 種類のポリマーを合成した。RuCl2(IMesH2)(CH-2-
OiPr-C6H4) [IMesH2 = 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolin-2-ylidene, (HG2)] 触媒を用いる
オレフィンメタセシス（非環式ジエンメタセシス、ADMET）重合とつづく One-Pot タンデ
ム水素化で、単峰性の分子量分布を有する各種飽和ポリエステルを得た。得られたポリマー
と CNF との複合化フィルムを作成し、応力や歪み測定を行った結果、モノマーの中間部位
に疎水性の 1,9-nonanediol（ME1）や親水性の tetraethylene glycol（ME4）を有するポリマー
では、CNF による物性向上が見られなかった。一方、親水性かつ環状骨格の isosorbide や
isomannide（ME2, ME3）を有するポリマーは CNF との相溶性に優れ、複合化後も高い透明
度を有し、1 wt%の CNF 添加でも引張強度が約 1.5 倍向上した。また、加熱加圧成形法で作
成したフィルムは、溶媒キャスト法で作成したフィルムより優れた引張特性を示した。引張
り強度や破断時伸びへのポリマーの分子量効果も顕著に現れた。 
さらに各種 CNF 複合化フィルムの曇り度（ヘーズ）測定を行った結果、疎水性の中間部
位を有する ME1, ME4 から調整したフィルムは曇り度が高かったことに対し、isosorbide や
isomannide から誘導される ME2, ME3 から調整したフィルムは曇り度が低く、優れた光透
過性を示した。これは親水性のポリマーと CNF の相溶性に優れ、凝集なく均一に複合化で
きたこと、さらにポリマーの環状骨格と CNF のグルコース骨格が水素結合することで適切
な距離を保持できたためと考察している。以上の結果から、CNF 複合化による効果を受け
るには、親水性かつ環状骨格を備えた構造が重要であると考えられる。 
 
２． 架橋ポリエステルの合成と CNF 複合化による物性への影響 
１章の実験結果で、ポリマーと CNF 複合化では、中間（ジオール）部位が親水性かつ環
状骨格を有するポリマーが物性向上に適していることが示唆された。そこで、isosorbide を
中間部位とするモノマー（ME2）をベースに、同じく植物原料である glycerin と erythritol か
ら誘導される架橋剤（CL3, CL4）を用いて架橋ポリマーを合成し、架橋ポリマーと CNF 複
合化による物性への影響を検討した。架橋剤を 1~5 wt%添加した以外は同様の重合操作で、
溶媒可溶な架橋ポリマーを合成した。得られたポリマーは架橋剤の架橋点や添加量の増加
に伴い、伸びやすい性質を有した。この手法で得られた架橋ポリマーに対し、同様の手順で
CNF を加え複合化を行い引張試験に供した結果、引張応力は向上するも延伸性は著しく低
下した。そこで重合の架橋剤添加と同時に CNF を複合化させる手法に変更したところ、延
伸性の低下を抑えつつ降伏応力が向上した。これは架橋剤と CNF の同時添加により、架橋
の網目内部に CNF が入り込む（貫入する）ことが可能となり、それ故高い引張強度を保持
して延伸性を担保できたためと考察している。また、架橋ポリマーに対して 1 wt%の CNF
添加量で充分な効果が確認され、それ以上 CNF 添加では応力の向上がみられずに延伸性の
みが低下してしまう結果となった。溶媒可溶なネットワークポリマーと CNF との相互貫入
構造の形成により、ポリエステルの強靭化と延伸性向上を達成した。 
 
【結論】 
本博士論文を通じて、各種バイオマスポリマーとセルロースナノファイバー（CNF）との
複合化により調整されるフィルムの外観（均一性）や機械的特性への中間（ジオール）部位
の影響を明らかにした。また、CNF との架橋ポリマーとの相互貫入網目構造の形成により、
植物由来高分子の高機能化（直鎖ポリエステルの機械的特性の強靭化および架橋ポリエス
テルの機械的特性の強靭化および延伸性の向上）に成功した。ここで得られた知見は、サー
キュラーエコノミーを指向した分解・再利用可能な高分子機能材料の設計における有用な
基盤技術になると考えられる。

CO2 is one of the most prominent greenhouse gases, considered to be the culprit leading to global 
warming. To tackle the intractable problem, CO2 hydrogenation is deemed a potential method for 
large-scale application. In general, CO2 can be hydrogenated to from CO, CH4, CH3OH, HCOOH, 
etc., under various reaction conditions. CO is considered the most promising candidate among these 
products from the perspective of economics, as CO can not only be the feedstock of syngas but also 
produce high-value added chemicals and fuels via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. CO2 hydrogenation to 
CO, also regarded as reverse water gas shift reaction (RWGS, CO2+H2→CO+H2O), is always 
accompanied by the CO2 methanation reaction (CO2+4H2→CH4+2H2O) to produce the lower value 
CH4. Thus, there is an urgent need to control selectivity to avoid the additional cost of subsequent 
product separation. The key issue lies in the rationally designed catalysts with selective CO formation 
for CO2 hydrogenation while maintaining high CO2 hydrogenation catalytic activity. 
In this thesis, the author developed various effective catalysts containing phosphorous for CO2 
hydrogenation, especially RWGS reaction with 100% CO selectivity. The main results are 
summarized as follows. 
In Chapter 1, CO2 hydrogenation to CO with 100% CO selectivity was achieved on different 
phosphorus loading to Ru/TiO2 catalysts. Structural analysis of the Ru-xP/TiO2 (x denotes P/Ru molar 
ratio) catalysts revealed that ruthenium phosphides on the surface of Ru metal nanoparticles induced 
electron transfer from Ru to P (ligand effect), resulting in the formation of electron-deficient Ru sites. 
The results show that CO is weakly adsorbed on electron-deficient Ru sites derived from ruthenium 
phosphide, promoting CO desorption and inhibiting CO hydrogenation to CH4, which explains the 
100% selectivity toward CO.  
In Chapter 2, to solve the significantly decreased CO2 hydrogenation activity problem in Chapter 
1, highly dispersed ruthenium phosphide species (< 2 nm) supported on TiO2 support were prepared 
for CO2 hydrogenation by changing the preparation method. Ru-3P catalyst with the size of ruthenium 
phosphide of 0.9 nm exhibits 46% CO yield with 100% CO selectivity at 773 K, and the CO2 
conversion rate was 0.1052 mol h-1 gcat
-1. Structural analysis of the Ru-3P catalyst confirmed that 
highly dispersed RuP was formed. Detailed investigations revealed that phosphorous (P) plays a dual 
role: it establishes a ligand effect on the electron transfer from Ru to P and has an ensemble effect on 
the formation of the RuP species. As a result, P species can break up and isolate the Ru ensembles to 
form atomically dispersed species that influence the catalytic activity. 
In Chapter 3, based on Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 results, a series of transition metals and metal 
phosphides supported on TiO2 (M and MxPy, M=Pd, Pt, Ir, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ag, Au (within the scope 
of 3d, 4d, and 5d metals)) were prepared and tested for CO2 hydrogenation. For Pd and Pt phosphide 
catalysts, CO was formed selectively, and the catalytic activity was almost equal to Pd and Pt catalysts. 
Structural characterizations revealed the formation of highly dispersed Pd3P and Pt2P species, which 
were responsible for 100% CO selectivity. On the other hand, for other phosphorous-loaded metal 
catalysts, the activity was remarkably decreased. 
In Chapter 4, the catalytic performance of Ru/Nb2O5 for CO2 hydrogenation was compared with 
that of Ru/NbOPO4. Ru/Nb2O5 and Ru/NbOPO4 catalysts were prepared by calcination-reduction 
(CR) and direct reduction (DR) methods. The Ru/NbOPO4 catalyst exhibited 100% CO selectivity, 
although methanation of CO2 proceeded on Ru/Nb2O5 with high selectivity. XRD confirmed the 
formation of RuP species on Ru/NbOPO4 catalyst. TEM and CO-DRIFTS results showed the gradual 
encapsulation of Ru NPs by the support (SMSI: strong metal-support interaction). Additionally, Rux-
CO peak was blue-shifted to a higher wavenumber, indicating that the electron transfer from Ru to 
support. These results clearly indicate the electron-deficient Ru species and the generation of SMSI 
effect on Ru/NbOPO4 catalyst. Moreover, the RuP particle size was maintained (1.2 nm) even after a 
long-time stability test due to the SMSI.
