This contribution aims to reconstruct the experience of the scientific journal «Annals of History of Education and Educational Institutions» since its foundation in 1994. In particular, the most significant thematic nuclei and its main animators are highlighted. In addition, it is well specified how since its foundation the journal, even in its methodological continuity, has represented an important interdisciplinary crossroads and an important place for the valorisation of historiographic sources. This contribution aims to reconstruct the experience of the scientific journal «Annals of History of Education and Educational Institutions» since its foundation in 1994. In Italy, critical studies on children’s literature have undergone a significant increase in quality and quantity since the 1970s. This evolutionary path of criticism has been based above all on a re-evaluation of the role of illustrations, the identity of the child reader and the opportunity to bring historical research into line with current pedagogical practices. In recent years, children’s literature as a subject of research has proven to be an extraordinary source of information for gaining a better understanding of the history of cultural processes and investigating the origins of the major issues in contemporary education. In Italy, critical studies on children’s literature have undergone a significant increase in quality and quantity since the 1970s. The paper examines the events that led from Fermo to Florence to move the collection of numerous signacula ex aere and some anuli signatorii, belonging to Gaetano and Raffaele De Minicis. As all of these were published in the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum without autopsy, a thorough review has revealed some new elements, including the identification of two unknown signacula and improvements in some readings.

    Get PDF
Starting from the rare instances in which Erich Auerbach mentions Ariosto in Mimesis, particularly the notion that Orlando Furioso should be described in terms of “feats of arms” (Waffentaten) rather than “war” (Krieg), this article aims to develop an “Auerbachian” interpretation of three poems largely overlooked in the seminal work on the representation of reality in Western literature: Inamoramento de Orlando by Matteo Maria Boiardo, Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, and Gerusalemme Liberata by Torquato Tasso. In  addition to this integration of Mimesis, the essay offers a possible theoretical explanation for the absence of these poems with the insufficient consideration of the category of literary genre in favor of that of “epoch”, while maintaining Auerbach's approach of comparing stylistic choices as “fields of possibilities”

    Manzoni e il realismo creaturale

    Get PDF
The essay aims to address the question of Manzoni’s realism in the light of Auerbach’s categories, a topic that has already been the subject of critical discussion. Specifically, it focuses on Manzoni’s concept of ‘creaturely realism’ and its antecedents, which include 17th-18th-century painting, Porta’s poetry, and most notably Pietro Verri’s Osservazioni sulla tortura, a text with which I Promessi sposi have been in dialogue since their origin. Finally, it addresses the question of the incompatibility between the idyll and Manzoni’s realism, through a reconstruction of the early 19th-century debate on the modern idyll (Goethe, Chateaubriand, Fauriel) and a series of textual examples taken from I Promessi sposi

Forza di legge o legge della forza? Il fondamento violento dell’ordine giuridico

    Get PDF
The unresolved tension between law and violence lies at the core of legal and political theory. This essay takes Rudolf von Jhering’s provocative assertion that force can exist without law, but law cannot exist without force, as its starting point to pose a foundational question: is law merely a continuation of violence by other means? Questioning the conceptual distinctions between force, violence, and legality, the work argues that while legal doctrine distinguishing legitimate force from illegitimate violence, in practice, law is inseparable from both. Starting from this hypothesis, the essay follows the interrupted paths of Michel Foucault’s, Walter Benjamin’s, and Sigmund Freud’s reflections and aims to demonstrate that law can never completely neutralize the original violence that legitimates it, on the contrary, it ends up reiterating it in an institutionalized form. But well before, the tragic imaginary of ancient Greece revealed the ambiguous relationship between law and violence, as interconnected features of the same symbolic order.

    Get PDF
Police institutions are uniquely authorized to use force for the containment of social violence and the maintenance of public order. However, when does police violence cease to be a legitimate exercise of force, and under what conditions does the institution itself lose its legitimacy if such force systematically exceeds the boundaries of what is socially and normatively justified? This article examines police violence focusing on the concept of legitimacy and its entanglements with democratic norms across legal, political, cultural, and individual dimensions. By analysing how the legitimacy of police action is constructed, the aim is to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of a peculiar institution of modernity, whose role is increasingly central in contemporary societies.

Sculture italiane in marmo nel Viceregno del Perù / Italian Marble Sculptures in the Viceroyalty of Peru

    No full text
In the context of the vast phenomenon of the circulation of art between the Italian States and the Viceroyalty of Peru, this article aims to provide an initial contribution to focus attention on the shipping of Italian marble works to South America. Due to the great difficulties associated with transportation and very high costs, the presence of works in this material is quite exceptional on the continent where, in any case, some significant works commissioned by the local civil and religious elite arrived. In fact, in both Europe and America, marble represented a paradigm of value so that it was used by patrons to flaunt their power. The works examined are all related to the sacred sphere, such as holy water fonts, pulpits, washbasins and some statues. They highlight the great importance held by the religious orders, often in competition with each other, in their arrival in the Viceroyalty. The article also studies the way in which works were contracted in Genoese workshops, the difficult dynamics of their shipping, the motivations that drove patrons to purchase them, the reasons that decreed their success or failure, as well as the local alternatives to the use of marble, such as alabaster and painted faux-marble decoration
