I GIS come strumento di ricerca: applicazioni metodologiche sull’Atlante Storico di Cingoli
Abstract in English
This study examines the methodological use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Historical GIS (HGIS) in the development of the Historical Atlas of Cingoli, undertaken within the methodological framework defined by the International Commission for the History of Towns (CIHV). Using open-source technologies, particularly QGIS, the research demonstrates how digital cartography functions both as an interdisciplinary analytical tool and a diachronic means for interpreting urban development. The integration of historical, cadastral, and geographic datasets has enabled the construction of a relational geodatabase designed to capture the morphological and historical complexity of Cingoli's urban fabric. The article further explores the technical procedures and epistemological implications of georeferencing, presenting the HGIS of Cingoli as a methodological paradigm that can be replicated within the broader program of Italian Urban Historical Atlases.
Abstract in italiano
Abstract in italiano

La siderurgia italiana nella globalizzazione (1970-2000). Crisi e resilienza
Focusing on the last three decades of the twentieth century, this paper examines the Italian steelindustry within a broader international context. After providing an overview of the steel industry in the leading Western European countries, the paper explores the growth patterns of the sector in Italy and its relationship with the country’s broader development. The role of national and European economic and industrial policies, public sector involvement, and the dynamics between the state and the market are then discussed. Adopting a business history perspective, some company case studies are analyzed. The conclusion highlights key issues that have emerged, followed by an overall assessment of this concluded phase, with an emphasis on its legacy and long-term impact into the twenty-first century.Focusing on the last three decades of the twentieth century, this paper examines the Italian steelindustry within a broader international context. What does sustainability mean in a corporate museum? Learning from CUBO, Museo di Impresa del Gruppo Unipol
Corporate museums lay at the crossroad between the worlds of business and cultural heritage. In academia they have been mainly studied as strategic assets which managers use with a means-end logic. Limited attention has been given to their social role, that of being a potential leverage in corporate sustainability agenda and, more importantly, at the service of society’s sustainable development. The present study aims to fill this knowledge gap by exploring: How is sustainability framed and measured in a corporate museum? A collaborative action research project with CUBO, Museo d’impresa del Gruppo Unipol, led to the development of a performance measurement system to assess the museum’s sustainability performance, from which practitioners of this sector but also of other heritage institutions could take inspiration for future implementations. The paper also offers a discussion on the role of sustainability measurement to combine the dual nature of corporate museums.
Corporate museums lay at the crossroad between the worlds of business and cultural heritage. Non-financial reporting in cultural organizations: motivations, processes and outputs
This study analyzes the motivations, processes, and outputs of non-financial reporting by Italian cultural organizations through qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews and focus groups. In response to European and global regulatory requirements, as well as increasing transparency expectations driven by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, cultural organizations face growing pressure to disclose non-financial results that demonstrate their value creation. However, the lack of a consistent regulatory framework leads to inconsistencies in reporting practices, including format, tone, and indicators, which often fail to meet stakeholder expectations. This study thoroughly examines the underlying motivations for non-financial sustainability reporting, the processes involved, and the output dimension within the context of Italian cultural organizations, contributing to the limited academic discourse on sustainability in the cultural sector.
This study analyzes the motivations, processes, and outputs of non-financial reporting by Italian cultural organizations through qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Riccardo da Lentini and the import of Gothic into Swabian Sicily
Given the difficulties in evaluating the beginnings of a italian Gothic style, the essay focuses on a rediscovered figure, magister Riccardo da Lentini, by centring him on to the pivotal monument of Castel Maniace and at the launch of the season of the castra in eastern Sicily (post 1234-1240). Along the way, the picture has been enriched with additional data, gradually outlining the modus operandi of the prepositus novorum hedificiorum in the service of Frederick II, at times correcting understandable uncertainties, and the investigation has been extended to his proven travels to the mainland after 1240. From the very beginning, surrounded by skilled and anonymous collaborators, the nature of the team led by Riccardo is evidenced by all that arrived in Regnum Siciliae, which is the tangible outcome of orders imposed from above, only to be revised within certain limits in the presence of the sovereign. Taking for granted that Riccardo was continually put to the test, Thus, the deliberate versatility in design with recognisable common features became routine, quickly applying the modernity of a redefined Gothic, enhanced by the most advanced technological solutions, to a defensive structure reduced to the essentials.Given the difficulties in evaluating the beginnings of a italian Gothic style, the essay focuses on a rediscovered figure, magister Riccardo da Lentini, by centring him on to the pivotal monument of Castel Maniace and at the launch of the season of the castra in eastern Sicily (post 1234-1240).
On 14 December 1935, the Scuola Nazionale del Restauro was inaugurated in Milan, it was a small institute that had the ambition of being a national reference. An important role in the foundation was played by Renato Mancia (1888-1985), a curious umbrian person from Trevi, who had already been a sculptor, artist and restorer, a great supporter of “pinacology” as a science and author in 1936 of one of the first italian texts on use of artistic diagnosis. This paper investigates inhedit aspects of Mancia's biography and contextualizes the brief history of the milanese Scuola in Italy, in a time characterized by a close comparison/clash between those who proposed an exaggeratedly positivist vision of the use of scientific-diagnostic tools and those who claimed a necessary mediation with art historians. In all this, to establish the credibility of the interlocutors, it was essential to distinguish who had colluded with the thriving market of art forgeries.

This paper focuses on the interest that educational heritage has attracted within Italian historical-educational research, as well as within national and international museums and associations. Within this framework, the article reconstructs the reasons that led to the institution of the Italian Society for the Study of Historical-Educational Heritage (SIPSE) and the early years of activity of this new society. During these early years, SIPSE has carved out an active role in the research on, protection, and dissemination of educational heritage, establishing solid connections not only with the Italian and international scientific community, but also with various sectors of civil society concerned in various ways with the cultural heritage of education. This paper focuses on the interest that educational heritage has attracted within Italian historical-educational research, as well as within national and international museums and associations.
In recent decades university – conceived as a site of training, knowledge production, and career formation – and its history have become an integral chapter of the history of education. This reframing has been shaped by historians of education who, thanks to the work of research centres, conferences and several journals, have woven together micro and macro-level analyses, thematic foci, and geographical scales. The result is a coherent picture in which the university, a central educational institution of modernity, becomes a privileged field of inquiry for rethinking the methods, sources, and aims of the history of education. In recent decades university – conceived as a site of training, knowledge production, and career formation – and its history have become an integral chapter of the history of education.
